I have UPMC but it is a different plan (EPO). I had no problems getting approval for my surgery back in 2013. A few days after the center sent the authorization I called UPMC and they told me I was already approved. It was painless. Good luck!

December 1: UPMC Magee (Pittsburgh)
Lorie269 replied to Sgt7546's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Hi there! I also had my surgery at Magee in 2013. My process and surgery experience was similar to yours with the exception of surgeons. I wanted to check in and see how you are doing and tell you that if you ever have any questions, to please let me know. Great job so far! -

I went from a 42D to a 34B over the course of my weight loss. I wasn't expecting to lose so much but I actually am happy about it. The only problem now is that they are more like saggy tube socks than boobs. Maybe one day I will be able to afford implants. -
My suggestion echos what others have said. Eliminate sugar from your diet before and after surgery and then, the most important part, STAY AWAY! I kept away from sweets until I hit my goal weight, about 10 months after surgery. It was so easy because I had zero cravings. Then, I thought I would allow myself a cookie here and there because I was at goal. Now, at 2 years out, my sweet tooth is out of control. I have regained about 5-7 pounds and I have a heck of a time finding the willpower to say no. I wish I would never have let that evil stuff back in my life. Just Say No!

PA - Pittsburgh!
Lorie269 replied to Carol Quabeck Boyer's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
It seems like this thread has officially died out. Too bad, as I hoped to have a local chapter to meet with others who have had surgery. I wish I had the time to take over this group. Maybe we could all have an online support group instead or just decide ourselves to get together sometime. Thoughts? -

Lorie269 replied to betty_s's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I just commented to my husband the other day that it was weird that I have more aches and pains at 132 lbs than I did at 269 lbs. It's strange! -

How do u know when u r at GOAL?
Lorie269 replied to jess9395's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
This has been really hard one for me. I originally set my goal at 150. My surgeon basically told me that she would be happy if I got into the overweight BMI category. Once I got to 150, I adjusted my goal to 145...then 140...then 135. I am currently sitting between 130-133 (21-22 MBI) and I thought I would be happy with that. Some days I am and some days I'm not. Some days, I want to fight to get to 125 and some days, I see my protruding colllar bones and say, stop, you're done. I also have some excess skin on my lower body that I "see" as fat. It's a head trip for sure and I am working on loving what I see in the mirror because I never thought I would get to this low of a weight. 130 pounds ago, I would never have thought I would have this problem. Surgeon's office meltdown ahead of Monday VSG surgery. What to do?
Lorie269 replied to fatflyboy's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Sometimes mistakes happen. It sucks when they happen to you though. If you researched your surgeon and feel 100% confident in their ability, I would just brush this off and move forward with the surgery. I'm sure the error was not intentional. Good luck with everything!
