  1. How soon after surgery are we allowed to lift weights and how much?

  2. I felt the same way. Once I knew that I was going to do it I went for that.... I better eat this and that now before I can never eat anything good again. I gained weighed before my WLS but really it's almost a normal behavior I think, you just don't get it at that time.... .that yes,, you will eat again.... the only difference will be that you get to eat only a few bites of something fabulous instead of a lot of junk. Hang in there... this too shall pass.

    What's the Hardest Part?

Hello there curious I didn't have to have that barium leak test after surgery and I didn't have a drain. I guess every doctor is a little different, for me the hardest part was keeping liquids in on and after the day of surgery. I went into dry heaves and that was painful because of the stomach surgery. I felt much better the 3rd day.... I was supposed to get up and go to the bathroom about 2 hrs. after surgery and was asked to drink something about the same time. Needless to say your stomach is so sore and swollen that the drinking was hard for me. I did not like the bloated feeling but that went away after week one. Today I am almost 4 weeks out, have lost 40 lbs and feel terrific, I have started exercising again, the wounds are healing, I am on pureed foods and I do fine with all the fluid intake. My advice to you is...... don't push yourself.... thinking that to have to be like everyone else. Just do the best you can.! You will feel wonderful soon after. Neuanfang

    I got the call!

Hello Karen, It's good to read all your preparations for the big date. I asked lots of questions of people who had just been through this surgery before I had mine. It was helpful and I understood the roller coaster emotional ride that is happening throughout this entire procedure. The best thing I have been told were three steps to keep in mind. Step 1: Oh, wow, I am really doing this.... I better get all my ducks in a row,,,, Step 2: Day 1 right after surgery....... Oh no, what have I done to myself.......... Two weeks out....Step 3: Wow, why didn't I do this sooner. Best advice I can give you is, give your body time to heal after the big day. Good luck and see you on the other side.

Feeling like this is a good decision

Hello there, I agree that having the sleeve was the best thing I did for myself. When I read some of these posts I am totally surprised at all the differences from doc to doc and state to state. I am three weeks out and my doc told me that I should be walking but not lift anything at the gym until week 6. I read that some people are on food as early as 1 week out. Today being exactly 3 weeks out I was told not to start soft foods until the beginning of my 4th week, which is tomorrow. It totally amazes me when I read that some people are not even giving themselves some time to heal. Enough said! I am glad you are doing well and yes you will love the sleeve. Neuanfang

Seven days out and my eyes are open

Hello there, I got it but then again I am 50 , lol, I am 3 weeks out and I know exactly what you are saying. My family still wants to eat and they do miss my cooking. Both my hubby and my son have actually lost weight since my surgery because I am not spoiling them with those extra yummy things that made me fat in the first place. You are right, we can do this, we do have that inner determination and strength acquired by years of experience. Why on earth would anybody go through all of this just to cheat themselves in the end. Good luck to you, Neuanfang

    Scale and Motivation Stuck!

Yes I agree don't give up... I met a friend yesterday who had another weight loss surgery (Duodenal switch) and lost 145 lbs in the last 5 months. His skin didn't do so well and he is still a young man, so slow and steady is better in the long run, also try increasing your activity that helps to give your body an extra boost. Good luck

the worst thing about the sleeve so far...

I am amazed at how fast some you guys progress to real food. My surgery was 5/29 and I am still on whole liquids. My tummy makes the funniest noises when sip my soup and my drink and I think the person next to me can hear it, which they probably do. I don't really have any cravings at all and must remind myself... Drink your shake.... drink your water etc. Hopefully those horrible food cravings will never return since I am so happy with my progress.
  13. Two weeks after the surgery and I went to the gym. I feel great to be back into my routine. I am so glad I did this for myself!

    Hurt feelings

I truly think that this is a natural human reaction. They mean well and want to support you but then feel that they are left behind and you are moving on to become a butterfly. Give her time and look to make new friends in a support group who are like minded. Your life did change and you can no longer be the eating out buddy you once used to be but you are going to be happier and some people have a hard time adjusting to that. I have not been visited at all by my dinner friends since I had the surgery. Strange but true.... they took my stomach not my heart which still makes me a great friend.

    Never hungry!?!?

I feel the same, I try to keep my three meals but I sort of have to tell myself it's time to eat. Something that never happed to me before, those dreadful, impulsive out of control hunger times are completely gone

Im 38 years and never ovulate

Hello there, I also have PCOS and have had two children. For years the doctors had me on metformin which helped with the insulin resistance but caused me to develop neuropathy in both of my legs. I do have two children but it took us 9 years to conceive the second. It wasn't until I lost a lot of weight that my cycle returned to normal at least long enough to conceive our second child. I feel for you because I know how hard it is to fight weight with PCOS, we do have it twice as hard and the hormone problem doesn't help. Due to your insulin resistance your body is constantly producing insulin which in turn keeps your appetite high and you graze most of the time. I controlled my weight pretty successfully with Metformin but stopped it when I found out that is caused the nerve damage in both my legs. Needless to say once I stopped taking it my weight spiraled out of control once again. Well my friend, I was sleeved May 29th and I have lost 26 lbs so far and I can tell you that this horrible feeling having to eat all of the time dissipated completely. This surgery was my only and last hope to life a normal life. I wish you the best and my prayers are with you.

    Help please

Hi, Why are you so hard on yourself. I was sleeved on the 29th of May and still experience pain. When I notice that my tummy hurts and it does the same yours does I just figure I need more rest and everybody is different in their healing process. I can promise you that it gets a little better every day and if I look back from where I was last week at this time I have already seen great improvement. Just snuggle up with a good book and let your body have the time it needs. It'll thank your for it later. Good luck...

10 days post-op and Im hungry!

Were you ready to do this when you had the surgery or did someone talk you into it? My advice would be to see someone that you can talk to about your feelings of depression and why you still feel like eating all of the time. How did you feel before the surgery? Did you have health issues? Really just search your soul and get some help. Good luck!
  23. Hi I am surprised that you are already advanced to pureed foods. I was sleeved two days after you and am still on solid liquids and that is all my stomach can handle right now. The doc explained it like this, think of your stomach like a brand new baby, you wouldn't put solid food in for some time also in order not to hurt your baby. It makes total sense to me.. from what I understand we are severely swollen inside and that opening needs time to heal in order to let more food in. Just a thought.... and good luck!
  24. Feeling better every day!
