Update on my surgery with Dr. Garcia!
Tim H. replied to Armywife29's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Beth, thanks for the update. -
Mine is March 18th. I hope I made the right choice with Garcia. The price is good, and most reviews that I've found are positive

I'm going through Ready 4a Change. Surgery with Dr. Garcia is $4700. If your bmi is over 50, it's an additional $500.

Aftercare in Oklahoma or North Texas?
Tim H. posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi. After being denied by my insurance company (Health Choice) because I'm not diabetic, I've decided to self-pay and have my sleeve surgery in Tijuana with Dr. Garcia on March 18th. It's kind of like a roller coaster ride. One minute I'm excited, the next I'm nervous. One minute I'm confident with my decision, the next I'm ready to back out. My biggest concern is about complications and aftercare upon returning to Oklahoma. I live in the southeastern part of the state - about 2 hours from Oklahoma City and 2 hours from Tulsa. Maybe 3 hours from Dallas. Could anyone recommend a doctor for aftercare? Has anyone found a doctor who will take patients who've had their surgery in Mexico? Did you just see a Primary Care Physician? Or did you do your aftercare with someone who specializes in bariatrics? Has anyone had experience with Health Choice insurance? Will they pay for any complications? Any answers would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. -

March 18th with Dr. Garcia -
For those of you who had surgery with Dr. Garcia, were there any additional expenses you encountered at the hospital? I've seen some mention of prescription costs and was wondering about that?

Update on my surgery with Dr. Garcia!
Tim H. replied to Armywife29's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Glad to hear you're doing well. I really appreciate your updates. I'll be having my surgery with Dr Garcia on March 18. I have a couple questions. Is your mom staying in your hospital room with you? how comfortable is it for her? My mom will be accompanying me and I don't want her to be uncomfortable. Also how loud is it there at night? Would it be helpful to bring earplugs and a sleeping mask? -

Thanks for the suggestion of tipping the shuttle drivers! I probably wouldn't have thought of that. -

Hey, I'll probably see you there. My doctor is Dr. Garcia, but it is at MiDoctor hospital. My name is Tim, by the way. I'm traveling with my mother and a co-worker who is also having the surgeryr. -
Amanda, are you having yours done with Dr. Garcia? I just paid my $500 deposit with him today for the 18th of March. I'm going through Ready for a Change.

Just saying hi. I hope to pay my deposit with Dr. Garcia later this week. *fingers crossed* that I can get a March 18th surgery date. -
I just turned in my application today for the passport card. $30 for card, $25 for processing. I had my photo taken at Walgreens for $11. Total = $66. I am planning on having surgery around March 18th. I'm glad to hear yours only took 2 weeks.

Teachers? Where Are The Teachers?
Tim H. replied to ShouldBlittler's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
Thanks for replying everyone. I hope two weeks will work. I have a teacher friend who is also having the surgery done over spring break, and she's hoping that she won't have to take any additional time off. I however, don't want to rush things. -

Teacher here. I'm an elementary school librarian and this is my first year in this building. Will be having the surgery in March over spring break. I plan on taking off the two weeks following spring break for recovery. I haven't yet decided if I'm going to tell the people at work. I told one close friend, but that's all. Do you all think 2 weeks is enough time?
