  1. I had a 32 BMI no comordities, no insurance coverage. I tried many times, lost, but only to regain. I wanted a more perm solution. Yes, bad things can happen but 90% have no major complications. I would do it. Mary

    Admitting im scared

Good luck, we all get a little nervous a few days out because it becomes REAL. It is OK. But, do a process check of why you are doing this ... to become healthier long-term to live a long healthy life for you and your children. Mary

    Energy levels

I went back to work within 6 days of the surgery. I work a pretty high-stress desk job. The first week I pretty much worked my normal 10-12 hour days. But, I would crash as soon as I got back to the hotel. Yeah, I travel to a client site (out of state) for work. Yesterday, I left at 5pm (super early for me), but I was up at 5 am, and went back to the hotel and slept from 6:30 to 4:30. I had to skip a leads meeting that started at 6:15 pm becuase I just couldn't make it. It was a really high stress day. Employee is screwing up left and right and I had to read her the riot act and listen to excuse after excuse. I am hoping for a better day to today. I am thinking of trying taking B12 twice a day. Once in the morning and once in the afternoon. I am open to any suggestions to beef up my energy late in the afternoon. But, then again, maybe my body just needs rest and I need to listen to it. Mary
  8. Are you taking antacids? I hear that helps with people who have hunger pains early on. My Doc prescribed two weeks of them. Mary

Fun visual ways to track weight loss

Just tell them you are on another "diet" and thought this might be helpful way of keeping you motivated. it is true and if you are like me, they are used to being on a diet "of the month". Mary

    Self Pay Questions!

The center that I went to received an Internatioal Center of Excellence, which has to meet the same standards as a Center of Excellence in the United States. There were 2 nurses there getting procedures. Both said that OCC had better care then facilities they have worked at in the United States. And, OCC was cleaner too. Mary

Fun visual ways to track weight loss

Thank you, I went to Hobbey Lobbey and bought dazzle beads. They were so small I did one for each 2/10 of a lb lost per BMI scale. I made one for my bathroom and one for work. Mary

    Self Pay Questions!

The MX prices include hospital / clinic (1-3 nights) and 1-4 nights in a hotel and the shuttles. The number of nights in each of the facilities depends on the group you are going with and what procedure you are getting (revision, VSG, Plication, Lap-band, etc.) Thus, you can spend the first 3 or so days if you like where someone else is taking care of you and you can spend the time truly relaxing and recouping. Constipation

I am only 1.5 weeks out but have been having a BM (sometimes 2 x) every day since full liquids. I attribute it to drinking / eating butternut squash or split pea soup with 1/2 serving of unjury unflavored protein once or twice a day. I also drink coconut water, which some say helps make you go.

    Nearly ready to go!

Sending healing vibes to both of you. Mary
  20. Yep, you read that right. I really haven't run into any real problems. I am 1.5 weeks out from Surgery and things have been smooth. -- No major pain after surgery, other than my wrist arm swelling from the vein they blew -- still hurts -- No major gas pain -- No nausea -- No close calls with throwing up -- Able to drink fluids relatively easily, albeit slowly -- Moved to full liquids per my Dr's plan easily -- I am getting 60+ grams of Protein, and close to the 64 oz of Fluid (remembering to sip Water and waiting the 30+ minutes after is annoying) -- Since moving to full liquids, I am been getting 600 to 700 calories in, is that too much? -- Finally lost the water weight gain plus, and an additional 4.2 lbs since the surgery for a total of nearly 12 lbs -- Traveled to my client site and worked pretty much my same routine of super fulls days, i.e, 10+ hours (yes, I did crash as soon as I got back to the hotel) Now, for the minor complaint, when will my wrist along the vein stop hurting? It hurts to stretch the arm out and to touch it. OK, I know I will hit a stall, I am thinking moving to more solid foods might present a problem, I just know I will hit a road bump at some point and will be on here asking for help. But, until then, pre-op patients, please know that the ride can be smooth. I know so far I have been one of the lucky ones. Thank you to who ever is watching out for me, I really appreciate it. Mary
  21. Congrats, I was super happy with my choice of OCC. Mary
  22. I have been shocked by some of the other patients choices immediatly after surgery. I am now thinking that the 6 month evaluation period that the USA makes people go through might be a good thing. Two patients are on the top floors in the Mariott so they have access to food they serve there. They have been eating sushi, peanuts, pretzels ... "oh, but we are chewing them up really well." Another patient had a beer and a margaritta 4 days out of surgery. She is a nurse who was successful with the lapband until it slipped and had to be removed. Then, we went out to eat outside of the Marriott and she ordered chicken. I ordered a broth Soup. It came with shredded chicken etc, I sipped on the broth. I will admit there was some small chunks of avacado that I sucked on until they were creamy. Why are these people taking these sorts of risks. I heard another patient give the 2 girls hell about what they were eating and they walked away. You know if you aren't mentally ready to do the 6 weeks of post-op diet, you just aren't ready for this surgery; IMHO. Mary
