Does anyone know when the risk returns to normal after surgery? -
Has anyone tried Bariatrichoice.com?
almosthome replied to ThurstT4life's topic in Food and Nutrition
I just received two variety packs and a sample from BC. The BariWise Protein Fruit drinks are all tasty, like slightly jello-ey crystal light. They suggest adding 6-8 ounces of Water but I've been using double that amount (which says something, because I normally make my flavored water pretty strong). The WonderSlim shake/pudding mix is awful in every flavor. No matter how hard I tried to make it delicious, it stubbornly remained the worst Protein Drink I have ever had. BC also sent a free sample of WonderSlim CinnaCrunch 'n chocolate which was decent; I don't feel it would be worth the price, though. There are better Snacks out there. -
Do you have a favorite water/protein/vitamin reminder app?

It's different for everyone. The last time I lost about 100 pounds (age 20-22) there was no loose skin. After a rapid 30-pound loss it slowed to 1 pound per week. Now that I am older and my skin has been forced to support even more excess weight for several years, I expect to have some loose skin in areas with significant stretch marks and fat folds/wrinkles. A previous coworker confided that she really wishes she had saved up for skin removal following RNY. If loose skin is of concern to you, start saving up. If it turns out after a couple years your skin bounces back, you can spend that money on something else nice!

warning - gross and embarassing question
almosthome replied to PeacockMama's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
There are several good anti-chafing creams. Most pharmacies sell the Gold Bond one, and it's only a few dollars per tube. It sounds like weight loss helps some people. I still had problems with chafing at a healthy weight. It could be a fat distribution thing only lipo can cure, but, again, each person is different! -
"wls Is Not What God Intended..."

Hi, I didn't read all the posts so please forgive me if this repeats a previous answer, but when speaking to a Christian person you can always reference the words of Jesus in Matthew 5:29-30: “If your right eye makes you stumble, tear it out and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to be thrown into hell. If your right hand makes you stumble, cut it off and throw it from you; for it is better for you to lose one of the parts of your body, than for your whole body to go into hell." EDIT: I just saw that this was posted earlier, lol. -

derrick34, that's exciting! Keep us posted. SkinnyMissy, thanks for all the helpful info. It gives me a better idea of what to expect. -
We (my sister and I) have decided to go with Dr. Lopez. Please share the good, the bad, the interesting, the helpful... pretty much everything about your experiences with him as a surgeon and A Lighter Me. Please private message if you are more comfortable with that. I am so grateful for everyone's contributions and insights here! <3

For those of you who got sleeved in MX, did they do an EGD?

almosthome replied to biggurlsneedlove's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Just a thought... it is possible your initial weight loss was due to dehydration? A single gallon of water weighs more than 8 pounds. My guess is you are replacing the lost fluids (gaining 'good' weight) at the same rate you are losing fat. Give it another month and see what happens. -
How exactly does the stomach heal after being sleeved? Does it grow together ("seal") along the staple line? Or is it just sore for a while due to the trauma (cutting, punctures, etc.)?

Super Low Complication Rates Red Flag?
almosthome posted a topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Hi! I am new to the forums. My sister and I are in the process of gathering information from various reputable surgeons in Tijuana, including many discussed at this website. I've read that even with an experienced sleeve surgeon, serious complication rates are generally around 3%. But so far the *highest* rate any clinic has admitted is .05%. Should I be overly concerned about this disparity? Or is there something magical in Tijuana's water? Thanks in advance! -
5'5" Women....what is your goal weight or size?
almosthome replied to VSGRachel's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5'5.5" with a large frame. My lowest adult weight was 155 (muscular), so that seems a reasonable goal for me. -
Super Low Complication Rates Red Flag?
almosthome replied to almosthome's topic in Mexico & Self-Pay Weight Loss Surgery
Thanks, both of you! That all makes sense. It sounds like ultimately we should base our decision on the best information we can find but remain mindful of the most common complications.
