am I being naive? ?

I only told close friends and immediate family until right before surgery. I carefully researched and was confident in my decision, but still a bit scared and didn't want to hear any negativity or have to constantly explain my reasons to everyone. I was afraid some would try to talk me out of it, and might even succeed in scaring me out of it. Actually 4 days before surgery, I told a coworker and she told me such horrible stories about the surgery and surgeon I was almost in tears. If I'd been hearing that for months before surgery, it just might've scared me into not doing it. Now that is done, I'm ready to tell the world! So happy that I made this decision and went through with it! -
My Journey 6 mos post op
valerie99 replied to Kristi71's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Congrats! That's awesome and inspirational! I'm only one week post-op and I hope I have similar success. If you don't mind me asking, do you work out and how much? I'm hoping to return to the gym this week, but I still get tired easily. Any tips to share? -
Forgot to add: I love knowing I can move anywhere and find a job easily.

I'm a RN and couldn't imagine doing anything else. I worked as a PCT before and during nursing school which was helpful to see what I was jumping into before getting accepted to RN school and great during because of the flexible hours. I worked full time until my senior year when I started an externship and worked only 2 shifts a week. Nursing school is rough, but you can do it! Just remember - it sucks but it'll be over soon and it is worth it! I love the flexible hours and shifts as a nurse, the mental stimulation, and being able to move around all day and not be confined behind a desk. I work in NICU and its challenging and rewarding - I love it!

ANY APRIL SURGERIES?....
valerie99 replied to mmlucas77's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had my surgery 4/16. Just started full liquids today! -
I am 34, I had my surgery a week ago on 4/16/13. I am an RN and I work in Neonatal ICU. I have been happily married for 13 years, but we've not been able to have children. My husband actually had gastric bypass in 2009 and lost 150 lbs. Our pets are our "children" for now - we have a yellow lab and 3 kitties, all of whom are very spoiled! I have 2 little nephews (also spoiled by me!) and adult neice who is about to graduate from grad school and an adult nephew who just graduated college. Also I have 2 sisters and 2 brothers, and my best friend who I consider a sister as well. I was a thin child, underweight actually until puberty. My weight gain was gradual starting around age 17. I married at 20 and was diagnosed a couple years later with PCOS while we were still in college. We were told we could not conceive without medical intervention, which turned out to be true. When we graduated college and were ready to start a family, we went on fertility treatments right away. 3 pregnancies in about 6 years of active fertility treatments (everything but IVF) all ending in early first trimester miscarriages. After extensive testing, no reason was found for the miscarriages except for my PCOS and insulin resistance. We are very hopeful that reaching my goal weight after surgery will help with conceiving and carrying a child.
