Hello everyone, I have a sister who is needs this surgery so bad due to health issues, problem is she works for the City of Tomball and will not cover her surgery and she cannot afford to pay for it out right. She has BCBS just as I do, but I work for a University and they covered most of mine and I was able to have it done. I just wanted to see if anyone had come across this problem, and if you know how to get around it. She has all the health issues needed and more and her BMI is well above the 40%. Thank you for any suggestions.

Seven months after our surgeries, I have lost 63.5 pounds and my husband has lost 92 pounds. We were fortunate enough to be able to have our surgeries 2 weeks apart and contine this journey together. It was been amazing for both of us, just wanted to share a little of our success and encourage others who have just had the surgery. Good things ahead. -

BCBS will not pay for sister who works for City

I am afraid the City she works just doesn't cover the Gastric Sleeve surgery, someone told her she could appeal the decision but I know she wouldn't do that. No she hasn't looked into doing it in Mexico, but knowing her I doubt she would go to Mexico, but certainly something to think about. I am thinking my family members should go in together and help her pay for the surgery, I am afraid if she doesn't have the surgery and lose the weight it will kill her. I apprecaite everyones comments and suggestions. -
Congratulations to everyone approved! I had my surgury on February 7th and have just begun and I am so happy I did this, and you will be too. I have a sister who needs this surgery so badly, she has more than enough medical issues to qualify but she works for the City and her BCBS won't cover it. I just wondered if anyone has experienced this road block and has a solution besides just paying for it outright. Thanks.

Congratulations on having the Sleeve done, you will be so pleased. I had mine on February 7th, and between the pre-op diet and surgery I have lost 28 pounds. It is amazing how it takes the hunger away and I can't wait to see where I end up with my weight loss, I am already so excited about it, my husband had it done on January 22nd so we are doing it together. Good luck to you and your new life ahead.

and it is true! Protein
JazzyJan replied to kortolano's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had my surgery on February 7th of this year, I know what you mean about getting enough protein in your daily diet. I like to use Unjury Chicken Soup, I found it at Medicine Chest, it not bad at all but don't mix it too strong or use too hot of water is gets lumpy. Also I have used Idaho instant potatoes, just mix with water and put a little check broth in it and it's good. Sometimes I also have the potatoes and chicken soup at the same time just to mix it up. I have also been told that if you don't get enough protein your hair will fall out....so be careful to get all you need. Good luck!
