Are you ready to have Weight Loss Surgery
melissa130 replied to Suzannesh's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
this was a great post. -
I had a rash too. It wasn't my meds. Because I have stayed on all of them and no rash. I did wear a binder around my torso - for the first week- I quit wearing it cuz i thought it might be causing me to have this itchy rash. The rash went away 2 days after that.

Benefits of Weight Loss.......Funny but true.......
melissa130 replied to DivaNurse's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
How funny! I look forward to all the energy I am going to have this summer when camping with my husband and boys. We have a camper and just to get it nice and clean and everything arranged takes a lot of work. And a lot of flexibility. -
Doctor cleared me to keep trying for a baby 5 weeks post-op
melissa130 replied to Fat2PHAT's topic in Pregnancy with Weight Loss Surgery
That is absolutely crazy. I don't understand why you went ahead with the surgery. What if you do get pregnant this month. You will not be able to get enough calories in for a healthy pregnancy. Your surgeon sounds very uninvolved. You obviously are only going to hear what you want to hear. So I actually feel sorry for you. I feel bad for anybody that puts their life at risk- and then doesn't give themselves a few months to heal and adjust to the new lifestyle. It is so hard to stay away from the wrong foods as it is. You should not have had this surgery now - if it was so unimportant to you. You will probably be complaining in a a couple years because the surgery didn't work for you. Oy!! -
WOW - just the inspiration i needed from this website. Good for you!!!! Be so proud of your self.

Feeling like im going to throw up!
melissa130 replied to ortega07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have also heard the sleeve patients should restrict processed deli foods. Never really knew why though. I assumed because of high sodium and higher in fat. Please post if the pineapple juice works. -

Eating before surgery
melissa130 replied to kimikat3's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Before my liquid pre-op diet started - I ENJOYED all my faves, in great big portions!!! I said good bye to them all too. It was like a mourning period kinda. Then once the liquid diet part started, I was very strict. You should try to avoid the fatty foods atleast 2 to 3 days before your surgery so your liver is not enlarged. -
Happy 1 month sleeve-a-versary to me!
melissa130 replied to canuckpaisa's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
THAT is GREAT! Good for you. It sure feels good huh? I am also one month out. My surgery was 01-14-13. Since the day of surgery I have lost 30 pounds. I am very happy with that. I am still on pureed foods. Next week I move up to soft. Keep up the great work. That swimming you are doing is awesome. -

I am shocked she gave you the go-ahead. For the next several months it is going to be tough to get all your protein and fluids in just to keep you healthy. I can't imagine adding a pregnancy on to that. Of course. because of a surge of estrogen in your body it may be the best time to try if you have had trouble trying to get pregnant. That is tricky. I personally would want to wait a few months- make sure there are no complications around the corner from surgery. Like needing your gallbladder out or problems related to new pouch like leaking, rupture, or ulcers. And what meds are you on post-op? -
Need help with understanding insurance letter
melissa130 replied to sandy'ssleeve's topic in Insurance & Financing
I would call and ask your insurance company to be absolutely sure. They are the only ones that truly know what that means.. and at this point you don't want to assume anything. Good luck. -
My First Post (due to feeling very frustrated right now)
melissa130 replied to timetogetreal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It really is hard for all of us to give you advice when we do not know you or anything about your mental history. Please don't be in such a hurry for the surgery. You are almost there. In the grand scheme of things- 5 weeks or 6 months will be a blur. And why be so willing to jump on meds - especially when you don't think you need them? You are entitled to a second opinion. Get a new psych eval. professional. -
That is awesome! Goood for you!!!!!!! I know that exact feeling you have. It is quite a moment to say goodbye to the 300's. And to know that you will never go there again! Be proud.

My First Post (due to feeling very frustrated right now)
melissa130 replied to timetogetreal's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh that is terrible. I feel bad for ya. You have to get a psych eval from another professional. Seriously. It sounds like you got hooked up with the wrong person. A lot of those folks have issues themselves and don't always know what they are talking about. You are absolutely entitled to a second opinion. And NOBODY can decide if you need to be on an anti-depressant after one visit. Ridiculous. Keep looking. My surgery was 7 months after I had hoped- well worth the wait. Good luck dear. -

melissa130 replied to Cookiemonster73's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Most people do like their protein shakes. They are healthy powerful drinks. Those who use them long term to maintain weight loss are not lazy!!! They are very smart and most likely will have the most success with sustained weight loss. Some of the negativity on this forum gets to me sometimes. -

Maybe we should just fill the house with only foods we can eat- buy enough for everybody. That way everybody is on the new eating plan. -

melissa130 replied to Cookiemonster73's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Tawnie~ I hear you girl.... My husband has always had a bowl of cereal an hour or so before bed- every night since we have been married 11 years ago. And now-- when he goes to get it- and sits next to me on the couch and I can hear him crunching on it - I want to make him spill it on himself. Hey are you off pureed foods now? I am still on pureed. -
My first "holiday" post-op. I have realized even more so - how food was a part of all celebrations. My husband and I didn't plan to go out for Valentine's Day because our youngest is sick. So how to make this day special without centering on food. Wow. Pretty hard for me. Every idea that popped into my head started with some special snack. I could make heart shaped cake...no.....or cup cakes with pink fluffy frosting....no. A fancy dinner with sauces and bread...no. Quite frustrating. What could we do to make it feel like a fun day-- but without the focus being food?? And I am not at stage where I can enjoy alcohol yet. Really looking forward to that! :-) Well I decided to make spaghetti for my husband and our two little boys. And a salad. Nothing special- just an ordinary dinner for the family. I had low fat ; low carb; high protein pureed food. But to the table - I added pink, red, and white candles. And a valentine at each place setting. When dinner was over we decided to go crazy with the boys making Valentines for all the grandparents and aunts and uncles. Sugar-free red jello for dessert- boys loved it. I got through it. No cheating on the bariatric diet. I focused on the atmosphere of love and the memories of the night. I felt fulfilled and happy. To be honest- I am surprised I feel that good. Of course I miss the annual pig-out at the favorite dining place and the big ole box of chocolates. But this year - what I take from Valentines Day is a beautiful card and gift from my husband. Warm memories making valentines with our boys. And knowing the scale will for sure be one pound lighter in the morning. Nothing "sweeter" than that. Happy Valentine's Day everybody.
