Discouraged - NEED ADVICE - 23 days out
melissa130 replied to Jhconnection's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The weight will come off. Any pound you lose in a month should be celebrated. You didn't gain and you are on the right path. I really stuck to drinking a lot of water and my protein shakes the first several weeks and the scale seemed to speed downward. As soon as I added more food to my diet the weight loss really slowed. Which is ok. As long as I don't gain -I am happy. Hang in there. And please find somebody in your area that you can talk to. Don't underestimate the power of a good psychologist, behavior specialist, life coach, or support group to help you get through these times when you get upset about the process. You are ok and you will be thin and healthy very soon. -
i don't know but wanted to find out too!

How did recovery compare to previous surgeries?
melissa130 replied to nmck's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I felt better 2 days after my sleeve than I did with my 2 c-sections. I felt that the csections were harder for me recover from. I always figured it was because of the extra weight when i had them. The sleeve surgery was not comfortable- but it is manageable with meds and it is worth it. Just like having a c section for a healthy baby- the sleeve surgery is worth it for the future healthy body! -
Ruining my weightloss?
melissa130 replied to JamiO's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
the sodium alone in the pickles and pickle juice will make you retain water. But you are off to an amazing start. Wow. Good for you. I am 6 months out and don't think I could eat a pickle. I am shocked for week 3 you can. Also beware of constipation and be proactive about it. It is no fun. -
Almost 2 years out and 130 lbs. lost. Slipping... Help and Encouragement PLEASE.

YOU SHOULD really seek advice from a professional in your area. I believe that this is what has really helped me stay on track. I am only 6 months out and I don't feel like I could give you any advice at all. But I am feeling for you. You have come so far. Get to a support group in your area specifically for weight loss surgery. Find a behavior specialist, start a new exercise program like Zumba or something fun. Make a purposeful change to re-motivate you. It is all mental. You really can do this and get the train back on the track. You will get to you goal weight. Make it happen. Get excited about it and make it a priority. Keep us posted girl! -
It is an amazing journey. I have no regrets. I lost 94 pounds under 6 months. I am trying so hard to reach that 100 pound mark by July 14th. Only 6 pounds and 11 days.

amazing. good for you

You won't need to wait several weeks to work out. I started walking right away when I got home from the hospital- in the winter. And then about 4 weeks post-op I was able to aggressively do DVDs at home. Good luck and stay motivated.

No artifical sweeteners or processed products

what kind of foods did you eat that caused you to need weight loss surgery? It must have been processed foods. -
It was an amazing moment when my scale read 199. My skin is not so bad. Just my belly and underarms jiggle a bit. When the sale read 170- I couldn't get off of it. I kept staring at it. I admit I cried. I am so thankful to God for this chance at using this tool to change my life.

I use Bariatric Fusion. I have grown to like them. Chocolate mousse and chocolate mint with choco chip flavors are my fave.

Regret telling people at work
melissa130 replied to iontash's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I hate it when people use the terms- "to lose it naturally or with surgery". Even folks who had surgery talk like that. This surgery does not control the food you buy or the food that your hand brings to your mouth. I have lost 94 pounds by getting a grip on my mental attitude towards food naturally. The surgery has helped tremendously by only allowing me to eat small amounts of food.. I am so happy I kept this surgery to myself and did not feel the need to advertise my business. I really hope that people that have not had surgery read this post and learn a good lesson. Keep your weight your own business. Nobody needs to know anything. -
I m 6 months post-op. I have no regrets!!!!!!!!!! good luck
-
I love your motto! Losing 100 pounds will be so much easier for you now that you have had surgery. I have lost 94 and it has not been 6 months post-up yet. I am excited for you.

my doctor put me on Actigal for 6 months also. To prevent gallstones. Ask your doctor about it. NOT everybody that loses weight will have trouble with the gallbladder. But it would make me nervous that your doc hasn't talked to you about this.

good 4 you and your new life that u are starting

i looooove this post! I wish I would have made a goal list like this!! Good luck. Keep us posted. i am excited for you. -
i just bought stretchy jeans and stretchy jean shorts because of that very problem. I have also bought DVDs to really target that area. Look for that material that stretches - u will feel so much better about shopping when u find the right fabric.

Good post. My surgery was in January. So for the holidays i was in need of nice party clothes. The thought of giving the high priced fat stores one more penny was killing me. So - i went to a consignment shop. Shockingly - beautiful clothes for almost nothing. And i only wore what i bought once. Because a few weeks later- i was too small. yay

wow- i am surprised you can get those fluids in like that - especially if you were having so much trouble with nausea. Did they give you any blood thinner injections while you were a patient--like heparin or lovenox? That clot business was my biggest fear. I made sure the nurses didn't "forget" to give me my injections Cuz it happens. So do you still get nauseated?
-
I strongly suggest pain meds. I had the morphine pump the first day and night. The 2nd morning I asked them to take it away because it was making me nauseated. I really regretted that decision. Then I had to wait forever for the nurse's to bring meds to me. I finally figured out to ask 1 hour before I was actually due for one...or continous ringing of my bell until the nurse came. I had to get bitchy a few times. And I am a nurse. When people are not in pain or have never had surgery- they have no clue how important it is to get that pain med. Good luck with your decision. By day 3 - I did not need any more pain meds.
