    Hater?

I was recently talking to a friend of mine who had gastric bypass. I sort of looked up to her and the progress she has made. I chose the sleeve because it was a better choice for me. We often discuss experiences that we share on this journey. She had her surgery a year before me so she is almost at her goal. She doesn't exercise and continues to eat fast food. When she picks up a few pounds she goes back to her doctor's orders. I have hit a couple of mini stalls since my surgery in January. The scale doesn't always budge, but my body is changing. I am losing inches it seems. I have been proactive and have been walking and going to the gymHas anyone else experienced this? Anyway, while my friend and I were talking she said she knew someone who was sleeved and they only lost 50 pounds and gained 30 back. I don't know if I am being overly sensitive, but as newly sleeved, I did not need to hear something so negative. I was concerned when she got her bypass and could have been more supportive. I admitted to that and apologized. I just think it was kind of messed up to say that to me when I still have such a long way to go.

    The blues

I stayed home 2 weeks after surgery. While I was off, my family and friends went about their daily lives. I had a couple of days where I was very blue. I even cried because I felt like no one was coming to see me. As I look back, I realize I was lonely and bored. I was frustrated by being restricted in what I could do. And previously my comfort was food. I didn't have that to go to to soothe my hurt feelings. My family and friends had their things to do. They had jobs and family. They didn't get time off for my surgery and recovery. As time passed and I got closer to being able to resume a normal life I began to feel better.
  4. Everyone has a different experience. I had a good experience. I did not suffer at all with the gas pains associated with surgery. I walked immediately. My surgery was laproscopic. So, I had no real major pain from the surgery. There was some soreness in my abdomen. It felt like I had done a lot of situps. On the stapled incision side I had would sometime feel a painful pull. But that was do to some strain I had unintentionally placed on my body. It is important to follow the doctor's directions. I didn't even take pain medication while I was in the hospital or when I got out.
  5. I am about 31/2 weeks out from surgery. I am trying to do my normal routine. Back at work. But not doing anything too strenuous because every now and then I still feel what I can only describe as a pull from my surgery. Sometimes I turn over in bed and feel that same pull and it doesnt feel good. It was more intense right after surgery, but I was hoping by now that it would be gone. I am ready for this sensation to go away because it has impeded some of my normal activities that I am looking forward to resuming. Has anyone else experienced this?

    Early Stall?

So, I am back at home and back at work. My surgery was Jan. 10. I switch between my shakes and pureed food. Initally I was losing major weight. I haven't really been checking my weight except for maybe once week. Well, I stepped on the scale after work and it showed me 2 pounds up. I tried not to panic, took a deep breath and was down two pounds. I breathed a sigh of relief and told myself that I wasn't going to check again until a full week had passed. Well, I didn't. I checked and I was only down a pound. I know I don't take in 1,000 calories a week. I am recently sleeved. What is going on? Shouldn't I be dropping weight like mad now? Is this a dreaded stall? What has been your experience?

    Crushed Meds

My doctor told me I would have to crush any meds I take or get them in liquid form. Unfortunately mine don't come in a liquid so I have to crush them. They taste AWFUL!!! Does anyone else have to do this? Any pointers on how to make it better?

    Reflux

Has anyone had any issues with reflux or indigestion since they have been sleeved? Sometimes it feel like my food just doesn't go down or it wants to revisit my throat. I went back to work today and had that feeling all day. I ate one and sucked on water all day. I know I didn't get all my fluids or proteins in but the night is still young. All morning I just had that feeling of the food just sitting there. I called my doctor and he prescribed prilosec. Anyone else taking this.
  9. Hi, I researched the band, bypass and the sleeve. After reading and researching and attending the seminars, I chose sleeve because I would not be rerouting. I wouldn't have the issue of malabsorption. Another determining factor was that I was told in the seminar that bypass patients who were diabetics had their diabetes instantly resolved. I am not diabetic so that was the final factor in my decision.
  10. I was sleeved on Jan. 10, 2013. I have had virtually no bad experiences since then. I got up today hoping to normalize my schedule as I return to work on Monday. So, first on my list was protein. I got up, had about 2 oz of protein fortified Greek yogurt then waited thirty minutes to begin drinking 8oz of water. My goal was to get this water in. I did, had my vitamin and crushed med. That last sip of water and multivitamin seemed to do me in. I started feeling the nausea. Shortly afterwards I threw up. I haven't done anything different. I started puree yesterday, but tolerated it all well. The yogurt went down fine. I am just confused. I don't feel bad. I am just not enthusiastic about eating anymore today. But I know I have to eat for calories and for protein. I am feeling a tad bit disheartened. I don't like feeling afraid to eat. Now I have the pressure of trying to figure this out while going back to work. I am needing some encouragement, advice anything right now.

    Chugging liquids

I am going into my third week post-op and I don't really sip anymore. I take something close to a normal swallow-but certainly not a chug.

    1st Day on Pureed Food

    Thanks for the recipes!

    1st Day on Pureed Food

I was given a list of possible recipes with my packet from my nutrionist. I try to stick with foods that have the higher proteins. I just blend until it is the consistency of baby food or yogurt. If I do a 'taco' I do ground beef or turkey and use salsa as my liquid to puree. If I do spaghetti, I do the same thing but with spaghetti ingredients. The only thing Iive out would be the noodles. Some meats have more texture than others and won't get completely smooth. My 'turkey burger' was not completely smooth, but was mushy enough that it went down without any problem.
  14. Today was my first day on the pureed diet. I was so excited to get something close to real food. I had babyfood 2.5 oz (chicken and gravy) and a pureed turkey burger (2.5 oz). It was HEAVEN! I dont know how I am going to go back to protein shakes to get all my extra protein in. I tried mixing some unflavored Unjury to my Crystal Lite and it was just not happening. I don't look forward to adding it to my yogurt or pudding either. Does anyone have any good ideas on getting in your protein on your pureed diet? I would be grateful for whatever info I can get.
