  1. Forgot to mention I have no problem with water intake. I asked the NUT about it and she said if I was a big fluid drinker before. I told her yes if you count diet coke. She said that's why I can drink so much water now. I'm drinking about 5+ water bottle a day.
  2. I went to my first follow up appointment today. We had a nutrition class and we learned what we could eat. So today I ate a scrambled egg. Took me awhile and I felt full after but I was so happy. I got sleeved on 2/19 and had been on clear liquids since then. My surgeon doesn't do purées. The NUT even said that was gross and not appealing to people. So we are at the semi-solid stage. I get to eat eggs, refried beans, low carb yogurt, low fat cheese, and I can add soft cooked veggies and little bit of canned fruit if its in its own juice or water. If I do well with these, then I can start adding more foods. Yay!!
  3. At my nutrition class today, my NUT said it was very common to develop a lactose intolerance after surgery. She recommend Mootopia mil bc it had 12 grams of protein and it was lactose free.
  4. I was sleeved on 2/19/13 and discharged from the hospital on 2/21/13. I have been on clear liquids since then. Going to my first post op appointment today where they will move me up on food. But (and I will ask my surgeon about this) I have been having trouble sleeping a night. I can take a nap ok but even if I don't I still struggle with sleeping at night. Takes me forever to fall asleep and if my husband wakes me up early I can't fall back asleep no matter how tired I am. Anyone else struggling with this?

    Problem sleeping

I told the surgeon and he just said I'm still getting out all the junk they put in my system for the surgery and to give it time and I should start sleeping soon.

    Problem sleeping

I'm not really napping. It's only when I have had 3 consecutive days of very little sleep that I nap.
  7. I'm still on a clear liquid diet after my surgery. I finished all my vegetable broth so I opened my chicken broth and nuked it. It smelled like I was boiling chicken. Gross. But I figured I would taste it. It wasn't bad bit I just couldn't handle the smell. I had to dump it out. So now no broth and I'm still hungry. Can't wait for my visit on Thursday when they bump me up on foods. I think I'm ready.

    Any regrets?

I didn't have any tube removed. I did have a pain ball removed from one of my incisions. It wasn't painful when they removed it and neither was the removal of my staples.

    Post op, day 1!

Glad you can through it. Yeah the first few days are tough. I had mine on the 19th and was discharged on the 21st. I liked the liquid Loratab better than the Morphine. I had to wait 10 minutes to press again. You will be probably going to the bathroom alot and it's gonna get tiresome having to call them to unhook you and help you up. Drink water when you can. Sip, sip, sip!!!

    Liquid diet!

Is this pre-op? Then premier protein shakes. If it'a post op, I was only allowed jello, water, Popsicles, and broth. I love propel zero water so that helped.

    Rapid weight loss question

I told some people but others I told them I had a hiatal hernia repaired which I did so I'm not lying. As they see me lose weight, I'm just gonna say the doctor made me change my diet bc of he hernia.

    Yay! Success at last...

That's so great. I can't wait for that to happen.

    gulp gulp gulp

I'm 7 days out and I can pretty much take normal drinks. I'm averaging 5+ bottled waters a day. Not counting my jello, popsicles, and broth,

    14 days out

I have to wait one week from surgery well actually from when I was discharged to move up in foods. I'm on clear liquids until Thursday then I can add eggs, refried beans, etc. I'm starting to get actual hunger here bc jello, broth, and Popsicles aren't cutting it anymore.

    very emotional lately

Sleeved on the 19th. Was really down today and crying for no reason. It went away but just wondering when it will hit me again.

    Blues

I know this is part of the surgery after effects. I got the blues bad and I'm crying for no reason. This too shall pass.
  17. My hubby went to the hospital with me but he would go home in the evenings. I think it was better for both of us that way bc we got each got rest. Once I got home he just stayed with me that first day I was released. The next day he went back to work. I was able to do everything I needed to do even take a shower. It hurt to her out of bed so I just sat in a recliner but I was told to walk so I mostly did that. Besides I really couldn't get comfortable to sleep. I did have a thing-a-majig to pick up stuff off the floor. That was a lifesaver. It even helped win picking up my pants. It had a little claw that I would close when I squeezed the handle. I even managed to do laundry with it. I got it a harbor freights for less than 7 bucks. I had originally used it to help me reach for stuff under the bed but it has worked beautifully for my surgery as well. Made me more independent.
  18. I got sleeved on the 19th. I'm doing ok. Each day is better. A little hungry bc I'm on clear liquids until this Thursday. But I'm going through a sensory memory lane. All of a sudden I will go oh yeah I remember what (insert your favorite food here) tastes like. Anything from buffalo wings to ranch style beans to a meal at a restaurant that I might have only tried once. I'm not craving it but it just seems like my mind wants to bring up those tastes. Weird but kinda pleasant too. LOL!
  19. I struggled with that too. But then I thought while I'm trying to lose the weight again I can get diabetes, high blood pressure, etc. The benefits are pretty immediate. My blood pressure is really good now. I had cold feet but on the day of surgery I was sure it was the choice for me. Only you can make the choice but just think about why you gain weight and why you can't keep it off. Those answers will help you decide whether you should go through with the surgery.
