Two years after WLS or two years after hitting goal?
-
Will you send it to me, too? Thanks!

I know about Obesity Help - I don't log in as much there because the mobile site is not as user friendly - but just out of curiosity, can you name the other boards? I'm interested in checking them out as well.

I love this quote - and what a great character Tyrion is!

This may sound like a stupid question, but why do you have to have this done before surgery? If it's to find a co-morbidity, I already have plenty of those. If it's because of increased anesthesia risk, why don't they have you do it before gall bladder and hernia surgeries? My doctor said I might not have to do one if I lose enough weight pre-op, but I really think I have it (even wake myself up snoring) and I believe I had it back when I was the weight he wanted me to get down to.

Edit: I re-read my initial post, and on the last line I meant to say: "I don't want her to get upset every time I open my mouth." Thanks again to everyone who replied and for the great feedback, stories and advice

I was told by my surgeon that I had to lose 25 pounds before surgery, and that it should only take a couple of months. He recommended 3-4 Protein shakes a day and no more than 1000 calories a day. According to MFP - that will only give me a loss of .6 lb per week - so only 5 pounds in 2 months! I was also told by the surgery coordinator that their office requires a 3 month supervised weight loss program - but she said I could use Weight Watchers and that they don't tell us how to do it - and they don't do the supervising because "Everyone who gets this surgery knows how to lose weight - they just don't know how to keep it off." Well - the only time I lost at least 25 pounds was after 3 months on Medifast. I lost about .5 ;b per week following Weight Watchers when I was on it a couple of months ago. I don't know how much/percentage of protein I should be getting in pre-op. I guess I'll find out at the NUT appt - but they haven't set that yet. I need to lose a lot of weight quickly - not sure what to do at this point. I haven't been able to lose that much weight since I was in my 20s - and now I'm 46!

OMG - that's hilarious - and a great idea

Good luck to both Sonia and Patritsky tomorrow - will be sending good thoughts your way!

You are so right - I know you are. I'm tearing up a bit re-reading this. I know this advice really applies to me and her in general - not just about this surgery. I had her at 30 - and she's our only child. Even though we do have a mother/daughter relationship, I do consider her a friend as well. Feel so bad that I've put so much on her little shoulders over the years. I'm truly trying to stop doing that.
-
I totally agree with you - I lean on her too much. I have it very clear that she won't have to take care of me at all after surgery - either physically or emotionally - I will be staying at my moms house an hour away. My mother is great support for me (now that she's finally on board with the surgery - and my husband is doing his best. I'm really sorry you had so much put on your shoulders when you were young, and I'm so sorry that you lost your father.

Thank you - you've given me hope!!! And I will download her book to my kindle tonight

That stinks!!! I'm so sorry - hang in there and don't give up! -
That's so helpful - thanks!!! I'm about to get off my butt in a few and go to the gym and swim laps for the first time in two months

Thank you all for the support and advice! I really think the reason she doesn't want to hear about it is fear. With her about to start her junior year in high school - believe me, 90% of the conversations we have are about her . She reacted similarly when I was in the hospital for pneumonia and then again when I had hernia surgery a couple of years ago. She just goes into a bit of panic mode. I will take your suggestions to heart - make sure I focus more on other things when I talk to her, and certainly don't forget to feed her . I'm sure I'll be posting a lot more to bariatric pal, too Bree Oh - and I will remember that VSG is a procedure - not my life!

What a great point!

Sleeve Science...A Summary of Some Current Research.

Wish I could "like" this post twice. You are so articulate - are you an author? Cognitive therapy is a life saver. -
I do, too. I am bipolar, as well, and I am so afraid that I will "crash" when I have surgery - or become hypo manic/irritable. food is a very important mode stabilizer for me.

Cheryl can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think her comment has been completely misunderstood. Not that I agree with what she said - but I think she was comparing formerly obese people who judge people for being overweight - to people who used to break the law, get saved (find Jesus) in jail, and then think they're better/holier than everyone around them. She doesn't think people who look down on other people for being overweight deserve(d) to get WLS - not anything at all about whether they've found God or not.

Thanks for the advice The Advocare have only 24 grams of Protein and 12 grams of sugar!

Hi everyone - I am starting my pre-surgical diet this coming week. My doctor recommends Advocare Meal Replacement shakes. I was just curious if anyone on here has tried these and has any feedback. Haven't seen that brand mentioned before. Thanks Brenda

Thank you so much to everyone who responded - you've given me a lot to think about and different points of view. I am going to make a summary of the pros and cons of both procedures and talk this over again with my surgeon. I will let you know what I decide - surgery is supposed to be in 3 months -
