  1. @@VSGAnn2014 and @@lose4life - thank you for your replies. The NSAID question is one I've had several conversations with my surgeon about. In my particular case, he is allowing them. I know everyone's situation and surgeon are different. The reason I said I'm getting the VSG is that it can possibly make esophagitis worse, but I'm not a candidate for bypass. My biggest concern right now is the polyps. I'm over my shock now and am confident they will come back benign .

    Endoscopy?

Getting my EGD in the morning. Not required by my surgeon - but I insisted
  3. It's possible the pain in your clavicles could be gout due to the high protein diet they recommend for us. I hope your doctor is able to determine the cause of your pain and help you get some relief!

    Tomorrow's My Day!

I hope and trust everything went great today!
  5. I have to lose 10% and never though I could do it (have never lost that much in my many attempts at weight watchers). I am less than two months into it and have lost 16 of the 25 pounds I need to lose. The biggest difference for me has been to incorporate two bottles of muscle milk into my daily regimen and keep calories around 1000 to 1200 per day. The protein in the shakes has really helped with my hunger. I've also been swimming some - but not a lot. Good luck!
  6. So glad to hear it - and thanks for the update!
  7. That's wonderful - what an accomplishment Congratulations!!!
  8. I'm interested in hearing how people who have already had surgery decided between the sleeve and bypass. I'm really leaning toward the sleeve as I have RA and will most likely need prednisone/NSAIDs periodically for the rest of my life. One of the two bariatric surgeons I interviewed really seemed to think my significant GERD would likely become worse with the sleeve. She thought if I lost enough weight I might not need anti-inflammatories - but that's a big "might not" and a lot to gamble with. I do also have a hiatal hernia, so there's a chance that fixing that plus weight loss might actually improve the GERD - so many unknowns... Has anyone had the Linx procedure for reflux either with or after the sleeve instead of revision to bypass? BTW - the surgeon who was worried about worsening GERD is a specialist in this procedure. Maybe I'm overthinking all of this - just don't want to do something for my health and then end up in worse condition than I am now. Thanks for any replies. Brenda

    Bump Beneath Incision Hernia?

I had an incisional/umbilical hernia from a gall bladder surgery a couple of years ago. The lump was in my belly button, was soft, and I could push it completely back in (although it was very painful to do so).
  10. I looks like I will be having surgery sometime during the week of November 16th. I need two more surgeon visits, sleep study, psych eval - and that's it! This has been a long process for me as I had my first surgeon appointment January 2013 - but was just not psychologically ready to make the decision back then. Now, I am completely sure this is the right thing. Feeling hopeful.

    Let's talk about NSAIDs

@@JustWatchMe I'm on Humira (along with Mobic, sulfasalazine, plaquenil). Couldn't tolerate methotrexate - ended up with high liver enzymes. Humira has been a God send - but I still need NSAIDs on a daily basis. I developed bleeding last summer from ibuprofen - but I was taking a LOT. Also take a lot of tylenol :/

    Emotional swing

Kandis - I have not had surgery yet, so I don't know what you're going through or how to help - but I have had problems with depression my whole life and your post really touched me and made me wish I could help. I'll be thinking about you and praying for you - and I'm sure you'll get lots of great advice from the wonderful people on this site. Take care and God bless.

    Let's talk about NSAIDs

I just googled nabumatone. I have had this prescribed to me in the past under the brand name relafen for my RA. Apparently, this particular NSAID is less likely to cause GI side effects than other NSAIDs because it doesn't promote acid production. Sounds like it may be a good option for "sleevers." I will talk to my doc about this too.

    Heart medication just for surgery?

I'm not sure if this has anything to do with your prescription, but beta blockers are sometimes used for anxiety

    Advil

How much Aleve do you take, if I may ask? This is the single most frightening thing about upcoming surgery for me - to discontinue ibuprofen.

    Need advice

I agree with @jnfisher. My doctor's office said they go with initial BMI - and the more weight you lose - the better surgery will go. However, everyone's insurance is different - and if I were you, I'd check with my insurance regarding their policy On this just to give you peace of mind (I wouldn't rely only on the statements of the office staff).

    Trying to understand

I still stick by my previous post where I said there are some demeaning, rude and hurtful comments that are sometimes (rarely) posted on this site. That having been said, I completely agree with VSGAnn2014 in this case. There were quite a few responses to Scared and all of them were considerate and helpful (IMHO). Just my two cents worth

    Dont be a b***h

Sorry to continue the thread highjack, but Gmanbat - I thought you might like a little story. I'm a veterinarian, and last summer I was pulling up vaccinations to go into a room with a puppy. I kept hearing a strange "chirruping" noise, and I thought it must be a strange ringtone. I kept hearing when I got into the room, and the owner's of the puppy acted like they didn't hear it. I finally asked what the heck that noise was, and the wife pulled a sugar glider out of her large purse - she couldn't bear to leave it home alone
