5th day liquid preop
jenakaela replied to kathyhalls's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I hope your still hanging in there...I'm pre-op hoping for a surgery date in March. I've been experimenting with pre-op diets to get a feel of it this past week and I did pretty good (lost 9lbs). My Dr wants me to lose 26lbs n I'm down 13lbs do far but it has not been easy. You're so close stay focus or read a book it helps ease the mind. How long is your liquid diet? Good luck... mind over matter. Sent from my XT907 using VST -

Surgery on 1/10...scared and nervous and rethinking my decision
jenakaela replied to roiansmom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi Missrose...I hope you're recovery well. I'm also A kaiser pt and going through Kaiser Fremont and they're awesome. Wishing you a speedy and healthy recovery. Best of luck to you! Lota -
Hi Aubrey I went through the same thing you're going through a little over 2 mos ago. I used the Patches to stop smoking and I gained 10lbs by the time I saw my surgeon. My surgeon requires 3mos nonsmoking and by Feb 1st I'll be exactly 12wks without a cigarette. I'm pre-op and hoping for a March date before my 39th bday on Apr 2nd. I'm also a stay at home mom and had to lose 26lbs per Dr orders. I've lost 13 so far and hoping to lose more by my psych eval on 2/5/13. You can do this so hang in there... if not for yourself do it for your babies. Good luck and keep your head up. Lota Sent from my XT907 using VST

Anyone do a pre-op diet before your told to?
jenakaela replied to JessicaAnn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats, you're so inspirational. I've been trying to break the 300lb mark since the 3rd of this month. I've been using the 1200 cal plan my nut gave me and on 1/16-1/22 (312lbs-303lbs) I've been experimenting with a "crash diet" I found on youtube and lost 9lbs. So super juiced about that. After today I'm going to start back on my 1200 cal a day plan again. -
Anyone do a pre-op diet before your told to?
jenakaela replied to JessicaAnn's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm pre-op and don't have a date yet, but I'm experimenting with the pre-op diet or "crash diet" on my own just to gain some perspective on what I'll have to do when my time comes. I started on Wed 1/16/13 @ 312lbs and this morning I'm @ 303lbs, so a 9lb loss I'll take that on any given day. My surgery goal wt my dr wants me @ is 290lbs, I'll need to lose another 13lbs. I also workout 4-5days a week, I've been reading a lot on here that exercise helps a lot with recovery, so I'm trying to minimize any complications as much as I can, but won't know until I'm wheeled out of the OR. Good luck! -
I'm also pre-op. My next appt is my psych eval on 2/5/13. Currently I'm experimenting with a crash diet for 7days I found on YouTube (diet by a vsg patient before surgery for 2wks n he lost 43lbs) it consist of 1protein shake, water throughout the day and a salad for dinner (salad can include whatever you like in it) before 8 pm. I haven't followed the diet to the T but I lost weight. I started Wed 1/16/13 @ 312 and this morning I'm @ 303. What I'm changing is if I get really hungry I eat sf jello or pudding or sf applesauce or 4oz cottage cheese mixed with crushed pineapple. I've only experienced headaches on the first day but since then I haven't. Its the 4th day n I feel fine sure I wish I could eat but its an experiment for me to prepare for what to expect when I'm given my pre-op diet for surgery, which I'm hoping will be March.

Yippeee no copay one less expense I gotta worry about.

You're right about that I'm ready for my new life as well. I've done all the little things too, excited for my psych eval and quick question should I wait for them to send me for a EKG because if its a walk in I was thinking of getting it done before I head home after my psych eval appt. next month whether they tell me or not . I'm so ready to climb out of this body I've been trapped in for over 17yrs now. Lota

Unfortunately not yet, but I do have my psych eval appt on 2/5/13 I'm excited about that. It just means I'm that much closer to obtaining one, hopefully soon after the psych eval. Thankfully I have no prior or current health issues and Dr Chu refers to me as "a healthy over weight person" was not sure what to say at that . I really like her and she took the time out during our appt to share her concerns about my weight and how much this surgery is going to benefit me. Oh before I forget congrats on meeting your weight goal. Lota

Hi everyone I'm also a kaiser member and I'm going through Fremont Bariatric Program with Dr. Chu...as I was reading all of your responses I now have a question for you all: Does everyone pay a copayment or does it depend on the kind of coverage I have through kaiser? I looked up my coverage on kp.org and it says I don't have a copay for any hospitalization services which includes bariatric surgery. I called Fremont and member services to make sure because no one mentioned a copay for surgery since I've been on my journey, just waiting for a reply. Wondering what your thoughts are on this. Thanks in advance! Lota

Back from the hospital
jenakaela replied to Lisa22465's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Congrats wishing you a speedy and healthy recovery. -
Thank you, before I quit smoking my whole world revolved around my cigs. It didn't matter to me how much I was spending on those cancersticks (what my oldest daughter calls them) lol or what it was doing to my health. To this day I never thought in a million years it was possible for me to quit smoking. The first 2-3wks were hard as heck, but I got through it with help of my hubby and the kids and the patches of course. Same here I stressed so much on losing weight the last 2 wks I nearly gave up, until I got on here and started reading up on all the different stories and what members have gone through or going through to get to where they're at currently and its reassuring that I'm only human. I try to be positive and stay focused on my mini goals and soon enough I'll be on here spreading the news about my surgery date, which I'm patiently awaiting because if it were up to me I would've had the surgery last week . Stay positive and those stubborn 2lbs will melt off of you.
-
LUCKY...I still have 23lbs to go Dr. Chu wants me to lose 26lbs. I also stopped smoking in the process, so by the time I saw Dr. Chu (12/19) I was 6wks nonsmoking and this coming Fri will be my 10wks annv nonsmoking . Its really difficult this time around to lose this weight, but I know its for the best. Hopefully I can lose most of that 23lbs by my psych eval appt Feb. 5th. I went to the Surgery Orient with Dr. Dennen and he's pretty good also, funny guy. Yea the coordinator told me that to book a surgery date after you've reached goal weight will be about a month or so out. Good luck and you'll lose that 2lbs in no time. Lota

Hi Kimi, I'm also going through Fremont...when did you start their bariatric program? Who is your surgeon?. My first mandatory class was on 10/27/12 and my surgeon is Dr. Chu she's really nice. Got my psych eval. on 2/5/13, really looking forward to that one.
-
Congrats on your surgery date, I wish you the best of luck and a speedy and healthy recovery after your surgery. I just got my Psych Eval appt scheduled today for Feb. 5th and I'm so excited and nervous because that means I'm that much closer to having my surgery. SUPER SUPER EXCITED!
