vogue replied to starfish108's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Just about 5 weeks out. I am freezing and exhausted. Anyone else?
vogue replied to rxkid2384's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i coldnt walk to my washing machine without stopping to rest til i was 8 weeks....didnt get decent energy til 8 weeks i wasnt getting 600 calories so that played into it im 6 months post-op and am still freezing all the time.... -
I did my measurements today since its unlikely I will lose inches by tomorrow..... I "only" lost 9 pounds this month....disappointing but expected because of the 24 potential workouts, I only did 10....the only cardio I got was swimming, the rest StrongLifts.....thats horrible considering Im supposed to be training for a triathlon... I started night shift the 1st of February and I just cannot adjust...my workouts ( and eating) have suffered.... I have one more month of this shift and I MUST do better... Despite, I lost some inches... minus 2 on both hips and waist...down another 1 at bust ( down to 34 B, I cant afford to lose anymore but I seem to lose here first)...one inch from both thigh and arm and 1/2" from calf... According to BMI I am overweight (29.0)... according to Body Fat, I am in "acceptable" range at 27.6... my waist to hip ratio is also in "low risk" range at 0.95 I was sleeved Aug 30, so I will consider tomorrow the last day of Feb as my surgiversary.... I am down 81 pounds from Pre-op weight... I did my 6 month post-op bloodwork last week.... Im low on Iron & Vit D... I was low pre-op but back up to normal levels at my 3 month post-op checkup... so back to taking those supplements...everything else was normal... I had cholesterol checked yesterday, total cholest was 149 ...HDL = 47.... Ratio 3.2 so all in all I feel kinda blah about it all.... did GOOD and I feel blessed but I could've done better

cellulite and dimples in the thighs !:)
vogue replied to Lisa'slosinit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
weight training ( HEAVY LIFTING, not just resistance bands type of stuff) has made a MAJOR difference for me as far as cellulite -
you appear to be African American, so I will say this... we tend to scar & keloid more than other nationalities.... so I brought this up with my dermatologist... SHe specializes in this area.... while I have never had a keloid, I have had bad scarring from a simple paper cut... She says she can do microdermabrasion and/or chemical peels to the area to lighten the scarring and maybe even make it appear 100% gone...however NOTHING is guaranteed ( and it is expensive) ... At this point in life, no one is looking at below my bikini line except my husband and my GYN and if they can handle seeing me naked at nearly 300 pounds, they can surely seal with me being UNDER 150 lbs ( where I plan to be when I get a TT) with a lil scarring.... I simply want to be able to wear a dress without 3 pairs of SPANX

Vomiting, post op 9weeks, vsg
vogue replied to sk14712012's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I only got this when I ate too fast or when I ate something my tummy didnt like ( example, at 6 weeks I still couldnt move past the mushie food stage for the most part) you may be progressing, food-wise, too soon or your tummy is rejecting certain things.... Im nearly 6 months out and am JUST able to eat red meat... -

no need to wait.... in fact waiting may make it harder in the long run... we need to be building lean muscle mass while losing the fat, not waiting til after to do it.. of course it will be hard at first..but in no time, you will be a master at it

Aetna's policy: Aetna considers panniculectomy/apronectomy medically necessary according to the following criteria: Panniculus hangs below the level of the pubis; and The medical records document that the panniculus causes chronic intertrigo (dermatitis occurring on opposed surfaces of the skin, skin irritation, infection or chafing) that consistently recurs over 3 months while receiving appropriate medical therapy (e.g., oral or topical prescription medication), or remains refractory to appropriate medical therapy over a period of 3 months. Aetna considers repair of a true incisional or ventral hernia medically necessary. Aetna considers abdominoplasty, suction lipectomy, or lipoabdominoplasty cosmetic. Background In order to distinguish a ventral hernia repair from a purely cosmetic abdominoplasty, Aetna requires documentation of the size of the hernia, whether the ventral hernia is reducible, whether the hernia is accompanied by pain or other symptoms, the extent of diastasis (separation) of rectus abdominus muscles, whether there is a defect (as opposed to mere thinning) of the abdominal fascia, and office notes indicating the presence and size of the fascial defect. Abdominoplasty, known more commonly as a "tummy tuck," is a surgical procedure to remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and to tighten the muscles of the abdominal wall. The procedure can improve cosmesis by reducing the protrusion of the abdomen. However, abdominoplasty is considered by Aetna to be cosmetic because it is not associated with functional improvements.

found a tolerable clear liquid protein.
vogue replied to katikati's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I drink ALpine Punch or the Grape flavor daily....they are the only 2 I can take... and they must be VERY cold... I usually dilute with Water to help with my water intake..adding a lil Crystal lite will help if you happen to get a whiff of the whey aftertaste... 40 easy grams of Protein ( wish it wasnt so expensive though) -
I was told nothing over 10 pounds for 6 weeks, 20 pounds for 8 weeks..... after that do as much as your body can handle.... but increase slowly...it takes a LOT of energy to power lift and at that early out we arent eating enough calories to support it in most cases.... I didnt start HEAVY lifting until over 3 months out....

Peoples reactions to weight loss surgery
vogue replied to michelle4873's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't tell anyone...I didn't tell anyone before surgery...so I didnt have that to deal with... I did tell someone that I planned to get a tummy tuck soon and the reaction was similar... if you can lose weight ( they have no idea HOW but do know I soend a LOT of time in the gym) then I just need to be diligent and work it off, basically said tummy tucks were for those with too much time & money on their hands -

Frustrated by the NUTs hard sells
vogue replied to sheetmetalgirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
brings back memories of my NUT trying to strong arm me into purchasing a book that all WLS patients need.... took me til my 3rd NUT visit to realize she wrote the book... at that point, I was on my 3rd insurance required NUT visit...I was done and didnt plan on ever seeing her again.... didnt buy book -
I was on day 5 of my period the day of my surgery... that usually wouldve been my last day...my period lasted an additional 10 days IIRC... then instead of my normal 28-29 day cycle...Ive had a 21-13 day cycle ever since....

I was never wide enough for a wide width but a medium width was too tight.... I wore a size 10 pre-op... 10.5 in some styles... I am a week over 5 months post-op, down 75 pounds.... and solidly in a size 9 medium shoe
