I would be very careful about taking the fish oil our any other supplements that are in gelcap form .... We were warned that they do not break down in our small tummies and can expand& block the stomas. We had one man in our support group session this month that that happened too and hit had to have it strictly removed. I take either liquid, chewable or fast dissolving vegetarian capsule specifically designed for bariatric patients.

Thanks! Keep going, you will notice little changes here & there, but for me it really didn't sink in until I saw these pics together. This forum has really helped me a lot .... It has some great resources and good tips too! -
I saw my pcp last month and had all my bloodwork done, and then faxed copies to my NUT and Surgeon. My B-12 was at 664, and my pcp was pleased with that. I get an email from my NUT, requesting that I double my dose of B-12, then a couple of days later, the surgeons office called requesting I do the same. I asked why when the normal rage of refference was 223-1132, The reply was that the requirements for someone who has had bariatric surgery is twice that of the normal range of someone with the 'normal' stomach. I wonder what other levels are supposed to be higher for us as well?

OMG - Looks like I'm approved!
Mysties mom replied to Vicki0618's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there! I have UHC too, they were not very forthright with what was required, & it varies by the company its provided for. I had to dig up my company's SPD (summary plan discription) & drs office had to send with for approval. don't give up! -
C-Pap .... how do you know when to stop using?
Mysties mom posted a topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Who was on a C-pap machine prior to surgery, and how long did it take to be rid of it? How did you know you no longer needed it? I am 3 months post op, and I was just wondering how to tell. Did you have to have another sleep study done? -
I didn't have a band, but had really bad reflux before s surgery. after surgery I had a little, but after the first three weeks it has minimized, and only get it occasionally maybe once every two weeks!

The pain was different, the stomach pains were in basically one spot and the gas pains moved, if I shifted or got up and started walking, I could feel the gas bubble move. I new what the gas pains felt like from my gallbladder surgery.

I was sleeved on 10/24. My pain wasn't too bad, but I did notice that when I started with the ice chips to begin with, they made my pouch hurt. Since I was limit to ice chips for a little while I had to deal with it and I found as I started drinking liquids that the colder they were the more I hurt. I had to stick with the warmer or room temp liquids.Even now it still bothers me to drinkl or eat anything too cold! The majority of the pain I felt was from Gas and I tried to get up and move as much as possible to get rid of it. but that only took a few days to get rid of.

UPDATE ON OCTOBER SLEEVERS WHERE ARE YOU
Mysties mom replied to chris54's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi I was sleeved on 10/24/12. My start weight was 333lbs, day of surgery was 328lbs, and now I am at 284lbs. I was taking bp, cholesterol and acid reflux meds prior to surgery. Stopped taking the cholesterol and acid reflux med at time of surgery, and have not taken any bp meds in over a month! Saw my prirmary this last week and everything was great, my bloodwork was very encouraging, and best part was my cholesterol total was 156! I was doing the happy dance leaving his office! I worry that it seems to be coming off slow, but after reading a lot of the posts, I guess I am on track. I am just glad the pounds are coming off! I am one of the lucky ones in that I have not had any issues with eating. It took me a little bit to build up to it, but I am doing well with getting in all of my protein and fluids. -
That looks really good and I have been craving pizza!

Anyone use protein shots?
Mysties mom replied to TM123's topic in Protein, Vitamins, and Supplements
I checked with my NUT, and she nixed the protein shot 'New Whey liquid Protein'! I have to say though the protein mixes I get from her are really tasty! I use Z-Pro chocolate or vanilla shakes they contain 25g of protein, or I will use Proti 15 mixes, they have 15g of protien and come in a variety of fruit flavors! To me they taste really good, and they mix up very well, unlike some that I have tried. I get mine form my NUT, no one else sells them locally, but I have googled them and found numerous websites that sell them. -
whats for lunch?
Mysties mom replied to Lisa'slosinit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Yes I will take something like that once in a while, but it tends to dry out in the microwave. I never really noticed before how a microwave will dry out meats and fish if warmed up. And they do tend to go down hard if dry, and no drinking while you eat to 'wash it down'. That has been really hard for me to do, not drink while I eat. -
What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
Mysties mom replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
You are moving in the right direction! I was sleeved 2 1/2 months ago and I am so glad I did! One of my issues was the same TMI issue you had (you are not alone there) and I no longer have that issue YAY !!! I just hope that I may be leading by example and that my daughter might follow my lead! You may be a step ahead of some of us in that your daugher can direct you and guide you as she has been there! Best of luck to you! -
whats for lunch?
Mysties mom replied to Lisa'slosinit's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I wish I had 5 weeks off! I was back to work after 1 week, but then I have a sit down job. Typically I will take 2 oz of sliced lunch meat, (normally boars head or all natural) and 1 oz of lowfat cheese and some sort of vegtable or fruit (1/4 cup) to go with. I usually have a protien shake for a snack. If I forget my lunch or havent been to the store to get stuff for lunch I will go to wendy's and get a small chili. Good luck on your return to work! -
Has anyone used or heard of Bypass restaurant cards from your DR ?
Mysties mom replied to fonally's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can print the card form this web site and have your surgeon sign it. I have only used it 2 times, once at Perkins Restaurant, they did not let me order from the kids menu but did allow me to order from the Silver menu which was perfect, one egg fruit and meat. The other time I used it was at Golden Coral, and they charged me $6.75 for my dinner. It is not a guarantee that the establishment will accept it but definitely worth a try! http://www.wlscenter.com/restaurant_card.htm -
What Was Your Final "straw That Broke The Camels Back"
Mysties mom replied to bigjoe102's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
The final straw for me was when I went to my Urologist for a follow up visit from a lithotripsy to break up a kidney stone (the second time this was done for the same 1cm kidney stone ) and to have him tell me that it did not work again! only this time he disclosed (not once had he mentioned that this could be an issue in the prior year) that it was most likely my size that is hindering the procedure that due to my 'girth' it makes it more difficult for the lithotripsy to be effective! Although reading through all of the other posts I see some of the same issues that I have had, and they have all played into my choice to have the surgery. I am so glad that I had it, and would do it all over again! I was sleeved on October 24th, and I have lost 45 lbs so far. I am looking forward to the day that I can get rid of the C-Pap .
