United health care chiceplus 5yr obesity history
Shaye replied to Shaye's topic in Insurance & Financing
Thats whats weird is i gave uhc all my in fo they needed to look up my plan and so did the surgeons office...evetything off my card, yet we both got a different answer. Im submitting the 5yr obesity history but if it is actually needed i probably will get denied because i had a bmi of 32-39 with no comorbidities in those 5yrs. Im gonna see if my primary will write a letter to uhc to go with my paper work explaining family health history of cancer, heart attacks, strokes and high blood pressure. I have high cholesterol and asthma but not medicated for any of it. -
Ok here is my story (short), ive been over 200lbs for like 7-8yrs and that makes my bmi between 32-39 and just found out i gotta have a 5yr history of being obese. What i didnt know is that its probably a bmi of 40+ or if under then i would need comorbidities. Well it wasnt 40+ and no comorbidities....im so upset because i really had my hopes up for this. I am so ready to finally get help losing this weight and feeling and looking better! Then this! Has anyone been denied by uhc because of the same issue? Can anything be done at all to help my chances???? Please help!

Ya it depends on your plan and from my experience no matter how much u call or who u talk to you get a different answer. Is there a nurse line through uhc? Id like to call and see exactly what is needed. Do you have the number? -

Got my nut and phsyical therapist appts tomorrow. Then all thats left is to do one support group. Wish i could do it closer or online. Ugh -

I was denied by my past insurance for sleep study, sleep lab said when i get uhc they should cover but i havnt gave them my uhc card yet to see. But just one.comorbidity isnt gonna do any good i think i need two and surgeons office said high cholestorol isnt one...she said it had to worse than that...i dont get it cuz it can cause health problems...maybe she ment i needed more than just that one...idk ill have to ask. Im gonna call sleep center tomorrow and try and get that going cuz my husband says i have it...he.said he has to bump me to get me breathing again at night and i guess i snore pretty.bad! Lol -

Whats funny is some people are getting approved who just became over weight. It def depends in insurance plan. Im gonna continue with this and see. Yes, i just had labs and EKG last week. I have high.cholesterol but not medicated, been tested before for diabeties but im not even pre diabetic. I have acid reflux but also not medicated i just take over the counter crap...lol maybe i should conplain to my doc about it. If uhc care pays 100% of sleep study then ill do it but the bills are raking up and only my husband is working im in school. I have the appts set next week for therapist and nut. Hopefully they dont break our account. Im trying to stay positive since i havent been denied yet. -

United Healthcare Choice - 6 month monitoring REQUIRED
Shaye replied to Letty1's topic in Insurance & Financing
I also have united and i wish i had to do a 3-6mo pre op diet! They want a 5yr obesity history from me and i have it but my bmi was only 32-39 for those yrs with no comorbidities so im real worried i wont get approved!! I have been over 200lbs for about 7yrs with no luck dieting and its only getting harder to lose. I was so excited about having the surgery and now im just praying that i get a nice rep who will approve me..lol anyone else have a 5yr history? -
So i found out today, no pre op diet required..yay right...i dont know cuz what they do want is a 5yr obesity history. I moved here (illinois) from cali in 2007, never really saw a doctor unless i was prego. In 2008 i was prego with my last child and saw my obgyn here and then finally started seeing a primary on a regular basis, but obviously not 5yrs. Im worried about having a 5yr history. Any ideas or anyone who has had this issue that might be able to give advice, please do so!!! Thanks in advance!!

Oh great!!! I would perfer the supervised 6mo pre op diet. This sucks!!! I dont have 4,000+ to go to mexico or i would. uhc paid 100% of my labs and EKG, not sure about the nut and phsyc, and physical therapist...those are set up for next week. But ya, if im gonna get declined why waste everyones time! And why wont uhc tell me what they want so i dont waste their money on unneeded appts. Surgeons office never called back...of course, im sure they want the business! I dont get it, i was over 200lbs all 5yrs.. Sorry i didnt have diabeties or sleepapnea or anything else but i also dont want them and im tired of yo yo dieting and nothing working! Soooooooo mad right now!!!!!! I knew my luck wasnt this good!!
-
I called back to surgeons office and left a msg for the lady who deals with the insurance part to even see if i should pursue this since my bmi for 5yrs was 32-39 with no comorbidities. Ugh...pray for me! I could just cry right now!!!
-
I knew this was too good to be true. I knew something would hold me back!! Ugh
-
Well, i will have a problem them . Mine is 32-39 with no corbidities.
-
Hey, toylitpaper...do u know what bmi theyre looking for on 5yr history? They wont tell me anything when i call except to submit it. Lol
-

Do u know what bmi theyre looking for? Its says 5yr history of modid obesity...is a bmi of 32 or higher in that range? Thats what mine was 32-39.

I asked surgeons office if pictures would do but they didnt know. My history shows my bmi over 30 (which i think is obese) for the past 5yrs. Maybe i should throw pics in with it..lol how long did it take to hear back uhc?
-
Got my 5yr history...yay bmi was over 30 all 5yrs...i think this is the first time ive ever been happy to be obese..lol also got all my labs done and EKG. Set my appts up for next wednesday to see nut and physiacal therapist. This all just seems too good to be true!!

Begining stage in wls, but so excited!
Shaye posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hi all, ive been on here a few days reading posts and posting some myself! I just switched to uhc and.sent all my paper work back to surgeons office. Im waiting for a seminar...like i said, very begining stages! I have not always been heavy, the weight came on after my third child. I was a size 9 after my second child but slipped into depression after my third and just gained! My highest weight was 250lbs! I have tried every diet out there, and was successful untill i started living life again lol. I would lose 50lbs and gain it back then diet again and gain again. Now im 35 yrs old and it is getting harder to lose! I lose about 25lbs and cant seem to lose any more and dont even drop a pant size...thats frustrating!! So im turning to the sleeve. Im 5'6, 245lbs bmi of 40. Cant wait to get this going!!
