Why did u choose sleeve not the band ?
cejiogu replied to Suko75's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I was going to have the band but I had my come to Jesus moment and told myself I need something that would last forever. I did not want by pass because as a nurse I have seen too mnsy people who had health issues secondary to it. The sleeve was a god send for me. I feel that I am still a real person just one who can loose weight! -
I admit I did my pre op diet but 3 days before the end I had a cheat day and said goodbye to McDonald's and Burger King . No I did not go to hell. I was sleeved on May 1 2013 and now have lost 123 lbs as of yesterday. I am not an exercise freak or eat next to nothing I eat what I want when I want since week 8. I just have a new relationship with food. You have to like not make make it the love of your life. Don't worry about the damn pre op diet. Some people are on if for 3 days some for 14. Try the shakes and a small protein for dinner. It will get u through. After the surgery the first 2 weeks you will not want to eat big or real food because your stomach wouldn't want it! Just water will become your friend.

Nurses As Bariatric Patients
cejiogu replied to LynRN's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am an RN too. I had my surgery done at another hospital from where I work because they don't do the sleeve. Only do bypass and lapband. I had this done to take back control of my life. I was overweight before I became a nurse but gained more over the years from 3 kids a divorce bankruptcy and life in general. 7 months out and down 115lbs. I only have about 12 more to go. I find if I take protein shakes and bars to work I can eat when it is busy. Has been off the hook the last month I am in L and D and babies have been coming out every where! -
Hang in there girls and boys. I had my surgery May 1 and as of this week I was down 111 lbs. and I am not miss watch everything I eat and exercise all the time. I have been careful and do walking. You all can do it too! I have gotten rid of most of my medication for type 2 and other related stuff. Hang in there group. You can do it. The surgery is a great tool to help get your life back! I am down to the weight I was in freshman year of college and that was a long time ago. In short my oldest son turns 21 next month!

So Many Problems. Worth It?
cejiogu replied to Tracy Anderson's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Sorry to hear about your problems, but also remember that your body was having problems before the surgery. At your weight I am sure you had some co-mobitities. You are trying to recover with a body model that was going to be a Lemmon if you didn't take your life in hand. You may have got blood clots secondary to the surgery but I can almost bet you would have gotten them this year. I am an RN so I know what I am saying. So now the problems will be gotten rid of because your body is getting better. It's a little rougher road but you will see the sunlight at the end of the tunnel. Hang in there! -
Good luck to you all I had mine of may 1, 2013. I was 306 as of last tues I am 200. It had been worth it. The first month is hard but once you get back to regular food you will all do great. I was having second thoughts up to the. Putting the mask on me in the OR. I woke up an hour and a half later and that was it. I love being back to what I weighted 22years ago. I a So have a new relationship with food. I still live food but it does not control my emotions. I have broken down the fat wall and I am now living a live I want. I have Heath that is much better. I made the choice last year to not die of something stupid connected with my weight. The sleeve has been the greatest tool ever!so hang n there guys you will have some pain and discomfort but you will be happy with your journey. Best piece of advise I can say to start get a good abd binder for the first two to three weeks home. Get the doctor to order one for you in the hospital. If not go to medical supply store and get one. Really helps with the pain and positioning yourself while you are sleeping.

Birthday! ???? no cake?!?!
cejiogu replied to carolina c's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My youngest bday was Friday. We get these designer cupcakes. I had 1/2one without the frosting. I got carrot cake for me. I am glad I had it. Was the first cake like thing I had had since my surgery in May. If you want it take a little but know you have control to stop. -
Hang in there. I was sleeved on May 1 2013. As of today I am down 106lbs I started at 306. I am how 200lbs. I haven't been this size since I got married in 1991. My mother says she has her old daughter back because I haven't looked like this since 1990. I like looking in the mirror. I saw a pic up at work that was taken the week before my surgery, it was a big reality check. I have had them take a new one because most people would not put the image there to me now. I am happy that I look better but more happy that my health is better. Got rid of 4 pills and on the way to getting rid of 2 more. It has all been worth it.

I gave up my diet coke and switched to a product called avitae. It's caffeinated Water. Tastes just like plain water but you can add flavor to is if you want. I get it by the case from Office Depot online. I work overnight so I didn't give up my caffeine but this works for me

cejiogu replied to linda305's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
When I started pre op my doctor was the member of one doctor group at my 6 month mark she changes and my 6 months of weigh ins don't count! Had to start over another 6 months! Fast forward I got it done had the surgery in May and I am down 106 as of today. I have 1 more pound to go to be under 200. I haven't been there in 20 years. So hang in there you will be happy with the results. -
Am a nurse and at work we just put up a board with all our pics and names. They took the pics 6 months ago just before I went out on medical leave for my surgery. My god I know I was fat and didn't look great but.... God I look better now. I have lost 104 as of last week. Now I know it made a difference but, thank god I had the sleeve! I have gotten rid of almost all my type II meds and the other meds connected with it. But the pic and a co worker who was out with her baby really gave me a great lift! She didn't realize it was me until I spoke to her. Also other people are looking at the pic and saying no way!!. Well again I am glad I have my life back. The girl I see in the mirror now I haven't seen in 18 years. Also I look in the mirror now!

I will not let myself have candy either. I am scared if I take one I will not stop. I can eat one chip but not candy.

I don't exercise as much as some people but I am an R N and when I am at work I ave. 3 to 4 miles in a 12 hour shift. Hang in there you will lose more. Think of the person you where just a few months ago. I look in the mirror and I haven't seen this girl in 18 years. You will find this web site helpful. Got me through a lot .

Doubts: sleeve necessary?
cejiogu replied to ForkAndMindy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Well for me it has worked because I needed something to help me lose and help me keep it off. I could regain the weight I have lost but it would be a lot of work because of the size of my stomach. I had pre type II and other pills that went along with it. I was on 6 different one. Now I am on 2 and hope to get rid of those by the end of the year. The surgery was my last resort but I needed something to keep me in track. I will be the big 50 in January and did not want to die from what I call stupid. I have control over what goes into me but I have lost weight and regained it more times then I can count. I have a special needs son and I can't die right now. His father has not been here in 7 years . And my other children are not here just to take care of him. I am at the weight I was when I got married and had my first child 21 years ago! I haven't seen this face in that long a time and guess what I missed it! I had second thoughts up until they were putting the mask on me in the OR. But thank god I went through the door! You will be too. -

How long did it take for you to feel normal again?
cejiogu replied to MindiJean's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
At least a month. As you move into more real food your energy level will be more regular. 6 weeks for lifting anything over 10 lbs. -
Hang in there. It will be great. I am 5 1/2 months out and down 103 lbs. I am now not the big girl and I can cross my legs! I have also lost a lot of butt. It is worth it. The new tool has given me a new relationship with food and I like it!

Approved for Surgery - Now I'm Freaking Out
cejiogu replied to LynRN's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hang in there one and all. I was sleeved in May. I have lost 102 as of this week. I am a RN and took 8 weeks off work so I would be 100% when I went back to work. Have had no real problems since the surgery . Lots of complements from the people I work with. I only told them just before I left for the procedure. Mind you I was still having small doubts about this up to the point they where putting the mask on my face. In recovery room I woke up and thought well to late now! Glad I have done this it is a tool I can live with. Go for it! -
How much time off work?
cejiogu replied to Lioness813's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I took off 8 weeks but I am a labor and delivery nurse. I do a lot of my work hanging on to women's feet and trying to push babies out into the world. I believe if a person can you should take off a month. There can be pain issues the first couple of weeks post op. Also your energy level goes up and down day to day because of the types of food you are restricted to in this time. After about the first 4 weeks thing start to level off you feel better, usually have lost some weight and can be positive about your journey. The tool you have created has to be used and driven around the block. Sometimes it takes this month to get the hang of driving. It is easier to practice IATA home then try and learn in front of co workers. Not that they are bad but it is easier to face them with having control over your tool. Hang in they one and all. This week I joined the 100 club! I have lost 102 as of being sleeved. May 1st of this year! High five to all -
1 lb from original goal & 16 from UGW w/ pics
cejiogu replied to lilbearzmom's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I was done on May 1 and I am down 101lbs as of this Tuesday. I work overnight too so sometimes it hard to eat on the run. I eat protein and then take protein shakes to work so if the break is not coming I can have something. -
I was done in May and I feel great. I have lost 101 lbs as of this week. The first few weeks have their ups and downs because of pain and energy levels. Once you get back to real food it's great. You get a new relationship with food. The fat wall comes down and you get the real you back. It's a tool but something you can live with. The key is live not for food but for everything else. I am still a food addict and in the long run could gain it back but I would really have to work at it. I like the way I feel now, I have given up 4 pills and hope to give up the rest by the end of the year. I will not die not from something stupid. I will live for myself and my kids. Come to the light and start living your life with this tool!
