I have been hypothyroid for 10 years. This stopped me from just losing weight. I also work overnight and this also effects your system. Fast forward almost a year, I am down 135 lbs. I was 310 to start. Best thing I ever did, I am also an RN so I knew I wasn't getting any healthier. My health was going down hill slowly but still going down. I had to tell myself I did not want to die from something stupid. I had some control over it and I took it back from food. Food and I still battle but we are more friendly than we where.

Getting Excited! Had my initial consultation Tuesday
cejiogu replied to urban*decay's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Good luck with either way you go. I had the sleeve done May 1, 2013. I have lost 135 lbs since then. Start weight 310 down to 175. Think hard about what you will be having. If sugar is your drug go by pass. I didn't want the re route so that why I went sleeve. Also my surgeon has been been doing them for over 4 years so I felt he really knew what he was doing. Either way welcome to your new life! Just like your mom you will both be starting a new chapter in your life. It's great to be a weight I have not been in 20 plus years. I have people not recognize me. Change is good. Become the main player in your life again. And we are here to support you. The first month no matter what you have is not fun. I will not lie, also you will have buyer remorse in the first week or so. We all do. But hang in there and keep moving forward. -
Gastric Bypass or Sleeve? Need feedback, please!
cejiogu replied to kpay10's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I did the sleeve and have never been happier. I am looking at my 1 year anniversary and I am 135 lbs down. I think if you are really addicted to sugar the bypass is more for you. I didn't have this problem and was scared of the complications that you can get with bypass. My surgeon does both. I was type 2 also has gone! I was maxed out on all the oral meds I am on none now since January. I can eat anything I want but just a really small amount. I think you really have to look at your relationship with food and what kinds of foods get you in trouble. Good luck either way we are behind you and hope you love the new life you will be entering! Change is hard but it's soooooo worth it. -

Biggest regrets about getting the sleeve?
cejiogu replied to NewSetOfCurves's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You will be happy. Change is hard and it's not all happy fast! But you need to knock down that wall of fat that you have been hiding behind. Become the person you know you can be. Is food in large amounts more important then your health? I was type 2 on oral meds and maxed out. I did not want to die from something stupid. So I made the change I am down 135 lbs in 9 months. And mind you I am not Ms. Workout. You can do it by not using food as your drug. It's still your friend because we all have to eat. It's just not my reward. My reward is seeing my face that I haven't seen in 10 years. The reaction of several people who I work with but where off for several months. Many did triple takes. Come to the light guys! If you can lose without WLS go for it! I couldn't I have hypothyroid work overnight, etc. I have done it and my live is better. -
Abdominal binder for traveling?
cejiogu replied to Nevermind's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
If you can get one from a medical supply store do! It is very helpful the first month post-op. Especially if you have to fly to your surgery. Ask them to put it on you just after if you can. It helps support your muscles that where cut and need to heal. Men was my best friend! -
I am 5'8" and I am 175. My surgeon would have been happy with 200. I was 310. I look good but also have a body that has given birth 3 times. I am about a size 12 to 14. I will be staying here. My face looks good. I was this weight when I got married in 1991. Welcome back me!

I use the Atkins ones. Because I like the chocolate and I like the package. I am an RN and sometimes I don't get breaks. This I can leave in the break room and sip between things.

Finally gonna get a lapband or sleeve
cejiogu replied to planningband07's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
I had the sleeve. Was going to lapband to start but I had my come to Jesus monument . I was going to gain it back so I needed something more permanent. I have met my goal weight 320 down to 175 in 9 months. Off all meds type 2 only synthroid left. I am down to what I was went I had my first kid and he is now 21! My life is back because my health is back. Think hard about it but we support u no matter what! -
I took 8 weeks off. I started with 6 and got an extra 2. I am an RN so I needed the time to heal. I have to move around a lot in my job. I know people go back after 5 days extra good for them! I needed the time to get over the pain and get my energy level back.

They will give you the sexy fishnet throw away underwear at the hospital. It's the same ones we give new moms postpartum at my job. Don't worry the nurses are use to it. We don't care. It is the glamor of our job!

I use water with caffeine in it called Avitae. You can get it at some walgreens or online. I buy it through Office Depot. If I buy 2 cases they send it to me and don't charge shipping. FedEx to me by the next day! It's great a and has no taste but water.

I want to meet Alex! I just love people who change the world in little ways by doing big things...
cejiogu replied to KeeWee's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I am so happy when I found this app. I give it out to people who are thinking of coming to the light. I was scared of by pass because as a nurse I have taken care of a good number of people who had it go wrong. Not that it's all bad and I know people who it worked for. One I work with she went from 300 plus pounds to 130 and was able to have 2 more kids in the last 4 years. Her oldest was18 when she had her second! Weight kept her from getting pregnant. But back to me I just was worried about by pass for myself. My come to Jesus monument was when I found out the sleeve. I was going to do a lap band but was again not a fan with the percentage of failure. I got sleeved on 5/1/13 at 310 I am now 175 as of this week. I have my live back and I am down to 2 pills from 7. I am no longer on any type 2 meds. I am only taking synthroid and Lipitor. The Lipitor is only because my Dad died of a heart attack at 41. Long story short I am more alive now then I have been in the last 10! -
Once a week. That way I don't get too into the numbers. I was sleeved on May 1, 2013. I was 310 and I am now 175. Keep up the good work guys but don't always look at the numbers. Look at your size, I was 3x 24-26 I am down to 12-14.

I use the Atkins shakes. They have 15gr of protein. I get them at sams club for 12 for 15 dollars. I also like the package. The top can be taken off and on. I work as an RN and sometimes I don't get breaks. I can drink this in between running around the unit.

What made you decide to have VSG?
cejiogu replied to McButterpants's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Single mom was 49 and health was slowly getting bad. Have 3 boys one with autism. Also RN. Long story short didn't want to die from something stupid. Sleeved on 5/1/2013. Was 310 now 177. I also work overnight and have a thyroid issue so just losing the weight was next to impossible on my own. Also maybe could have done it but I know me I could have gained it back and then some. Now I still can but I would have to really eat bad. I hope I will never do that. -
Here post 10 months surgery. Have bad thyroid and I work overnight! Not a good mix. Long story short I am an RN too. Pre weight 310 now 177. Sleeved on May 1, 2013. Greatest thing I ever did. Still on thyroid med down to 100 mcg per day. Only other med vitamins and Lipitor for slightly high cholesterol. Father died of heart attack at early age. Go for it! Has changed my life for the better.

Here too I have a 15 year old with sever autism. Plus a 21 and 13 year. I had my come to Jesus moment 18 months ago when I decided I didn't want to die from something stupid that I had some control over. I had insulin resident type 2 and was on max oral medication that was not really working. I am also an RN so I know what it's like with shots. No way! So sleeved on May 1, 2013 went from 310 down to 177. Have met my goal and I am off all my meds except vitamins and thyroid med. we need to live as long as possible for ourselves and our kids with issues! So here I am down to what I weighted when I had my first kid. Feel great! Keep up the journey for yourself and your family!

It happens because you lose your hair and your body isn't replacing it like it usually does. It will again but there is nothing you can do. No pills or supplements. Just have to live through it.

Re-evaluating original goal?
cejiogu replied to PokeyJo's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 5'8" and the chart says 150 No way! My doctor said 200 I was 310. I am 177 now I will try to stay 170 to 180. I am a big framed girl and I don't want to get down to a weight where I look sick. Right now everyone tells me I look great. Younger etc. this is the weight I was 22 years ago when I got married and had my first kid. -
I was in 2 nights but that's my doctors way. He wants to make sure that his pts don't get dehydrated so I was on IV fluids for the whole time. Doesn't give pain button. Was on IV Tylenol for 2 days and IV pain med when I asked for it. He gave me good stuff stronger then basic morphine. Had surgery several years ago and found out that morphine doesn't really do it for me when I was in pain. Second changed to liquid Vicodin. I had a large amount of pain so I took everything I could get. Used it at home every 4 to 6 hours for the first 2 weeks. Best friend was my binder. Helped in getting up moving and trying to sleep. If they don't give you one at the hospital go to a medical supply store and get one. The support of your abd muscles is really important the first month.

I can't even imagine what it would be like...
cejiogu replied to Flutterfly19's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
You will be able to eat what you like just not as much. Also like the rest of the guys said your relationship with food will change. The fat of fat comes down and your life will be different. Food while you still need it will not be the only bright spot in your life. It will be there when you need it but your addition will become less. I am still addicted but not like I was. Hang in there and keep going! Change is hard and can be scary but once you do it you will love it! Says the girl who was 310 lbs this time last year and is now 177lbs now! No more type 2 meds and I have more energy. I needed to lose weight for my health and I now have it back!! -
Any nurses out there?
cejiogu replied to karensdRN's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The water is avita water. You can get it at Walgreens or by the case from amazon or Office Depot. I get 2 cases at a time from Office Depot and they have free shipping plus I can usually find a 10 dollar off 50 dollar code. -
I am lucky I only paid 250 for the hospital and co pays for appt maybe another 100? I

Like I said on another thread I found a plain water with caffeine in it. I work overnight and need my caffeine. I don't drink coffee or tea. I use to do at lest 2 liters of diet coke a day.
