should I go back to work?
cejiogu replied to lucy00us's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It depends on what you do. If you have a desk job you maybe able to handle it. Iam a labor and delivery nurse. I took 8 weeks off because of what my job entails. Standing lifting for several hours at a time. You are the one that can judge but for me if you can afford stay home as long as hey will give u. You don't get extra sleeve points for going back early! -
Panicing About Failure...
cejiogu replied to Mindful's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Only if you give into your demons. That's why people gain it back they choose to be unworthy of themselves. Love the new you. Restart your life and you will new look back! -
You will have doubts until you get on the table. But you will have more good thoughts when u wake up and about 4weeks post op. you will also think "what the hell did I do!" In the first week. You will make it and you will not regret in the long run. So says the one 3 months out and 64 lbs off.

Tube in your nose
cejiogu replied to Autumnrain1908's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
They give you oxygen after surgery because you don't breath deeply until you wake up or 24 hours after when all the drugs wear off. Some need longer then others. -
HOW ARE THE MAY SLEEVERS DOING.....
cejiogu replied to blackie220's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was done May 1st down almost 60 lbs -
I did a 6 month weight loss with this crazy holistic doctor guy that my insurance made me then my PCP changed MD groups and I had to repeat the nutritionist part again taking 6 months! Luckily my insurance after had no problem oking me. But it took over a year and in someways it was good because I lived with the idea longer. Also I still had my doubts up to getting on the OR table and getting a mask put on me! Almost 60 lbs down I am so happy I did it.

Think of it this way keep just one chin up vs the two or more that will be going away!

Call doctor in am. Either take some Benadryl by mouth or get some cream to apply around the area. Is either a relation to the steri strip or the solution they used to clean the area before the surgery. In the future you should tell your regular doctor hat you may have an allergy to tape. It is something that should go on your medical history.

Do most people have drains?
cejiogu replied to lynndtt's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I do not know what the hell all your surgeons were doing to you all! I had no drain or foley. I am a nurse and understand the reason for the drain for 1 or 2 days not 2weeks! God bless you all -
4x a day might be a bit much be if it is only for a short time I would take it. It helps with acid in your new sleeve and helps prevent dumping syndrome. That is where your whole intestine dumps out not fun. I am a RN so I am also speaking as a healthcare professional and a sleever.

Kind of want to punch a kitten :(
cejiogu replied to takingbackcontrol's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Funny my first week home my brave sister came out to stay for a week. She then saw that I have more then one job. The 24/7 mother job. I am lucky my oldest is twenty and my youngest is 12 but my 15 year old is autistic. They 24/7 job that never goes away. She helped big time and the kids were good but she had to go home and rest from all the usual mother stuff. And mind you my 15 year old is not the one that demands the most time. The regular other two are the ones that you ask them to do something and its why or I will do it later and the golden why can u do it? Forgetting that you can hardly move. I loved the fact the kids went to school so I had the house to myself for part of the day. I am a single mom with an ex who returned to his country for a visit and it has been 5 years. So he is no help. -
Sleeved May1st Pre weight 306 Post diet weight before sleeve 291 Post surgery as of 6/24 253 Loss 53 as of today and I am 5' 8" tall. Have 50 to 75 more to go My doctor told me 150 was ok. But that 200 would be a better goal. I am tall and way over 40 so I think he feels that 2/3of the over all goal will be easier to get to and keep off for the rest of my life.

adult content: when can I start having sex?
cejiogu replied to freakinfitfoodie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I would say the most important thing is to use birth control. You don't want to get pregnant for at least a year. Some do but your body will be in a better place a year later. Also I am sorry if you did not get a binder. They work great especially the first 2-3weeks. Gives you support to help you get going or find a position to sleep in have early sex in etc. if you are still out only 3 weeks talk to your doctor about getting one. Can get it from hospital or get prescription for it and you maybe able to get from local medical supply store or some drug stores depends how large you are. Again mine was great used it to week 3 helps you to use less pain med. if you are going to be sleeved ask your doctor pre op. I am say this as a patient and as a nurse that has taken are of people who have had our surgery. -
2 days post op and feel like poop! Also, have questions
cejiogu replied to cmathews77's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am 7 weeks out today and I only started to feel ok this last week. I was only going to be out 6weeks from work but my doctor gave me an extra 2 and I thank god! I would have gone back to work and then needed off again. I am a labor and delivery nurse so my job can be very physical. I also work overnight 12 hours shifts so I need to be all together. It takes time I am down 50 and I am feeling good about myself for the first time. I have 75 - 100 more to go but I felt a rib today in the shower! I can't remember that last time I could do that. So hang on this is a life change and change takes time. Also I was second guessing the whole surgery up to the point I was on the OR table and they were putting a mask over my face! I was like I'm not sure but was asleep before I could get the words out oh well woke up and it was over! -
Swimming after surgery?
cejiogu replied to LittleDooker's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgeon stated 4 weeks as a nurse I wouldn't go in sooner because of all the chemicals in a pool. Better safe then sorry with an infection. -
I use to drink diet coke like water. I found a water with caffine and have been drink that. I work overnight so I need caffine. But I miss diet coke I really loved the favor.

help do I have a leak?
cejiogu replied to ********'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
That can be from the throwing up. If you get pain in an area that u have not had it before and start running a fever, you may have a leak. Go to the ER. I am a nurse so please follow this. Also if you get tender and re in a spot on your stomach please go to ER. If you feel "not right" please do not put it off. Better to see doctor and it be small then ignoring problem and it becoming big. -
I'm still in the hospital. And I'm misarable
cejiogu replied to sprinkles13's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
You can always take just liquid Tylenol for pain without the narcotic . Don't go without if you have pain. There are also other pain meds like ultram. You can crush it but its a pill with alittle narcotic in it. Ask your doctor. You get no brownie point in the long run if you suffer. It also slows down your ability to get to walking and working out. Equals in long run slower weight loss. Hang in there. -
I am 6weeks out and have lost 46lbs so far. Would like to lose 50 by the time I go back to work at the beginning of July. My kids say I look like I lost more. I guess it is inches . I have a lot more energy but then have I have some what feels like B/p drop ehen I get out of bed. I need to see my regular doctor about this and oral meds foe type II. I have tried to take them but had several episodes of bs dropped and feeling like crap. Will call in am.

Go for the sleeve if you can. I was done on may 1st down 45 lbs. I am also an RN and the bypass has too many side effects. I have taken care of people with issues and work with several. Girls who had it and have had problems. The sleeve only makes your stomach smaller think about it

I see all over here that people brag about not taking pain medication. As someone ho was sleeved on may1st and an RN there is no extra points in life for not taking pain medication when you need it. I get he feelings some times here that people look down upon us who had to us it for more then 2days post op. I had a lot of pain for over 3 weeks. Just to get to sleep at night it took a couple of Vicodin before I went to bed and about 4hours later in the middle of the night. Now it's better but I feel we should look down on us who had to use it. Again I am not a super human but we are recovering from surgery!
