Acid reflux Questions for you all....
Jackhamptons posted a topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Saw the Dr. Today and he said perhaps I should reconsider the sleeve and go with the gastric bypass cause I have a history of acid reflux. He stated they have seen roughly 30% of people have worse acid reflux afterwards. Even with my current treatment of nexium I would still have problems perhaps. Can you all tell me how you are progressing and do any of you have worse acid reflux? I went in there with my mind set on sleeve and now he has me worried. Thanks Jack -
How's the pain ?

I haven't had surgery, but I am thinking about it. I can tell you I take nexium everyday and never have heartburn any more. It is really good stuff. -

How was the pain level with the spider? Any problems? Good stories to share about it? -
Has anyone done any reasearch or spoken to their Dr. on why bariatric patients may be more likely to have alcohol issues? I have alcoholism in the family... And it kind if scares me to hear that. Is it it just the replacement of a food addiction with something else perhaps?

Hey guys kind insignificant question, but I was wondering if you have to get a catheter with this surgery?

It just freaks me out unfortunately. I will ask the dr and see what they say. Hopefully no or at least tell me no and then do it. How is everyone's progress? I have been contemplating this surgery for a while... I am a big guy and the doctor told me perhaps a month pre- op diet. I think I have decided I need to do it ... Just nerve racked like everybody else out there.

New guy here, you've GOT to read this!
Jackhamptons replied to BigFrank's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Awesome progress Frank. Your Story makes me want to move on with this process. I stopped it after the consult and after my insurance said it would be covered. I just have a big fear of it and also a fear of not being there for my new son and wife. What did you tell people when they ask about your weight loss? I would tall family but don't think I would tell co- workers... Also do you work out a ton now? -
This might sound ignorant, but do you have any phantom pains? Does the pain and nausea go away let's say after a month?

Hey everyone what can I expect as a pre-op diet? I haven't discussed it yet with the surgeon. Clear liquids or opti fast? What has everyone been getting told? My surgeon did tell me he would want me on it for at least 1 month but we never got to th

Okay so here is is- I have pondered weight loss surgery forever. I have taken the steps and had an appointment with the Doctor and have been approved by my insurance company. This took place back in November and I told my wife I would make my decision after the holidays- so here it is February, and I haven't done anything yet. I am at a loss of what to do.... I am not sure if I am frightened of the pain, or the new life I will get to live now with no excuses. I use the excuse of the sleeve being so permanent and how young I am. At the same time I am 34 years old and a new Dad . I know the right choice every morning when I leave my house and say good bye to my 4 month old and wife. I have a panic attack on the way to work thinking today could be the day it all catches up with me and I don't come home. When I think about it later I think I can do it myself like I have before. Have you all been there before ..Are there any regrets?

I want to thank everybody for their kind thoughts on this big decision in my life. I do believe it is the right choice for me and just need to get my head really wrapped around it. I know coming on here has helped a great bit. Being young and having these co-morbidities is what is really helping me make this decision. Blood pressure meds and glucose resistance doesn’t mean good things for my future. I think what really gets to me is the no excuses for being able to live life to the fullest anymore. I have always had this crutch since high school of being overweight to lean on as an excuse for not doing something. Now having a little boy and wife to take care of makes me think I need to really make a change for myself and them. Jack
