Do you drink with your food?
Takingcontrol replied to melinda48's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have tried to not drink...but can't! I only take small sips though! :-/ -
Just 2 lbs in a week...WTH?? & this is after walking on treadmill 30 min each day! & yes, I am getting plenty of protein & water, heck...that's about ALL I get! I am one month out & just lost 17 lbs! I guess I am officially one of the "slow losers"...:-(. This sucks! But I am going to try & be optimistic & say at least I'm loosing! I have decided this weighing is too much stress....I AM loosing...I can FEEL my body changing! So,I have decided I'm just going to weigh once a month...or when I go to the dr since I have an apt in a couple weeks! :-/

Takingcontrol replied to Takingcontrol's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm trying to stay positive! I KNOW we will loose, we have to they little we eat! It IS frustrating....but this too shall pass! Like MsVeDub said....I'm paying more attention to how my clothes fit & AWAY from the scale! -
Wow, that's terrible! So sorry! :-(

Way to jazz it up Dean! I'm a month out & jealous that your not hungry (also of your wright loss!) I get very hungry every 3-4 hrs! I can only eat a small amount, but then I'm starving again! I still love food, just now enjoying trying different healthier options! My Sis-n-law had surgery over a yr ago, & assures me things get better...& she looks awesome!! Hang in there!!

Alcohol and 2 weeks post op!
Takingcontrol replied to sarahzamudio1091's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I agree with mkardh, I see no reason to not enjoy an occasional drink now & then! With that said, alcohol IS a blood thinner...so you may be pushing it a little 2 wks out. I almost had a drink at a party last night, I'm a month out...but then thought better of it & drank water....however I DO see an occasional cocktail in my future. We have to learn to eat/drink smart...not deny & punish ourselves for the rest of our lives! -

pre_op liquid diet. Im starving
Takingcontrol replied to Fair2bslimLady's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm glad my surgeon didn't require a pre-op diet, I just had to do clear liquids the day before surgery. I really don't think I could've stuck to it! :-/ -
New to the whole process, Aetna, What can I expect?
Takingcontrol replied to tonid2328's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
I had over 40 bmi, but no other medical issues....which was one point in their denial letter. I wrote my own letter back to the insurance disagreeing...I DID have high cholesterol, which has been proven to lead to heart issues & I have a huge Famiky history of heart issues & diabetes! I just pointed that out to them, the people at my surgeons office didnt include that in the first request! Just check & see the requirements & make sure there all addressed. & if for whatever reason they deny you, they will state specifically why...then just go down the list & address every issue. -

Takingcontrol replied to tonid2328's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Not sure, I have Aetna & had to do 6 month nutritional diet program before approval. Psych eval is really only to make sure you know this is not a miracle cure...you still have to maintain control over your eating. I know of 3 people who have Aetna & had this procedure, we were All denied the first time, but appealed & addressed everyone of their issues & were approved. Good luck...it's just a process, but you will get thru! -
2lbs....WTH?
Takingcontrol replied to Takingcontrol's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thanks guys! I just needed to vent, I'm actually Very happy with my decision to do the surgery...just hoping for a little faster start! :-/. But I am staying positive, & you are right...before I would have LOVED losing 2lbs in a week! But I do have to admit Im jealous for these people who loose 30-50 lbs in a month or two! :-/ & wow for those of you who run & exercise so much....heck, I'm just looking forward to the day I can walk on the treadmill without my thighs trying to start a fire!! -
Anyone else not comfortable with your surgeon's office?
Takingcontrol replied to sbekch's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Try cc the surgeon in any emails to her! If she knows he is getting them too, she's more apt to answer! Worked for me anyway! & I too had no co-morbs & was turned down the first time...but I took it upon myself to write a letter back & address each of their denial points & told them correct...no issues YET, but they needed to consider family history which put me at significant risk! & the fact that they preach preventative measures! I was approved within a week! -

What foods cant you tolerate?
Takingcontrol replied to Egan317's topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Im a month out & The only thing my tummy doesn't care for is raw onions, I don't get sick....just "burly" -
im 7 days out, and feel like hell,,
Takingcontrol replied to jessejune1213's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Not getting enough protein can increase your fatigue. Why can't you drink a protein drink...just the amount or does your tummy not tolerate it? Are you drinking water? You don't want to get dehydrated. -
Just be yourself, it's basically a formality to make sure your not psycho! Lol, they really just want to make sure that you understand this isn't a miracle cure....it's a tool & you still have to work to control your eating. I am just a month post op tomorrow & I LOVE my sleeve! I can basically eat anything I want...just way smaller portions! I'm totally satisfied with that! Good luck!

How I keep from over eating!
Takingcontrol replied to UndercoverBariatricGal's topic in Food and Nutrition
I also use the small containers & small silverware (helps me take smaller bites), helps with portion control & makes my mind think I'm eating more then I am...= more satisfied! -
I think everybody's dr & nut give different goals, just like they all have different guidelines on when to change from purée to soft to reg food. Best to ask yours.

I think my nightmare has come true.....
Takingcontrol replied to DanaInNewOrleans's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
If you get the unflavored protein powder you can add it to your oatmeal, cream if wheat, or soup...or anything for added protein. -
Not at my Walmart either. :-(
