What would you like to do/acheive once you have reached goal??
linksmom replied to gg2007BandSTAR's topic in The Gals' Room
Hi, besides the obvious things like being able to buckle myb seat belt on the airplane, I want to go back to Sturgis SD for bike week and wear all my leather shorts and cute tops and vests. I want to strut my stuff. I want to be one of those cute girls that had it together walking around without a thought of "oh, I hope no one is looking at me." I want to whore it up a little. Oh and of course if my ex-fiance was there it would be even better. -
I got a call Thursday from one of the nurses saying they had a cancelation for June 12 and if I wanted to fill it. (my surgery is scheduled for July 24) I regrettfully told them "no". I leave for a 2 week vacation in Florida the 13th. I told them if it comes up again after the 27th, I'm there, but "I've GOT to go to Florida." Plus as much as I am nervous about my 2 weeks of all liquids, I would have only gotten barely a week of that in and still haven't been scheduled for my pre-opt tests yet. My mind and body have been wrapped around the 24 of July, so that's what I going to do. But it would figure they would call when there's no way that I could move up. They might have spies at the airport booking terminal.:incazzato: Hahaha Susan

Well, it was just as I thought. Froggi, you and I are genius'. Between your powder room and my girls gone wild, we have come up with a hit and it took less than 24 hours. So looking forward to this post. We girls need to let it all hang out every once in a while. And this blog looks like the one to do it in. Yaaay !!

Would you get breast implant.....??
linksmom replied to gg2007BandSTAR's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Hell yeah, I would get a lift and implants. Once I hit puberty I think my breasts just kinda stopped. So hopefully my weight loss will help any type of breast surgery be covered by my insurance. -
Does anyone know of a 15,000 step club or something for over 10,000
linksmom posted a topic in Fitness & Exercise
I have a very active job working in a warehouse. I bought a pedometer about a year ago and wore it that next week at work. Just at work alone,my average steps were between 11,500 and 12,500. And this is getting on and off the fork lift and other machines. This is the reason, I know I could lose weight if I could control my food and get a jumpstart on things. Of course changing my eating habits will also be the key.Just thought I would ask. Have a great day everybody. Only 1 more day until Monday. -
I had mine removed about 4 years ago. The worst pain in the world. Now if I didn't have to eat to survive I would have been fine. But once I had something to eat, Little knives were gutting me. I ended up having it removed in an emergency surgery, 2 weeks before it was scheduled to come out. It took twice as long because when they went in to remove it it was trying to pass a gallstone through the tube to my stomach and they had to inch it back up to the gallbladder so they could remove it. At least that's what they told me. Which woud explain the emergency. It was a interesting feeling when they asked me what I wanted for dinner that night. My experience was always pain when I ate, so to be able to eat and have no pain, was awesome.

How did you choose your goal weight?
linksmom replied to Bobbirs's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't remember what my "healthy BMI" weight is but I went to the lapband website for their BMI calculator and just kept working it till I found out what my healthy weight is, I think it was between 112-145. I'm 5'5.5". So I had to figure it at 5'5" and 5'6". I remember I was 157 for my high school prom and just starting to be a little chubby. I was so mad that I couldn't get down to 150 for prom. If I only knew then what I know now!! So I'm shooting for at least 147. If I should go below that I'm not gonna complain. When I was in jr. high, I can remember going roller skating(that was the thing to do) and I wore a size 3 Brittana jeans. OOH to Dream again. -
I'm thinking............Ladies Night Girls Gone Wild Women's Retreat Look out here we come Tea Party That's all I got now:redface:

June 3rd is finally here!!!
linksmom replied to YoungNy's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going to take my own pillow. Also I'm going to try and skip the gown. I'm more comfortable in a wife beater and boxer shorts. If my tank gets some blood on it from the incisions, it's ok, it's old and a cheapie from Target. :biggrin2: -
At Toys R Us(maybe others places) they have these suckers called "Preggy Pops." They are suppose to help with nausea. I've heard they really work. It was funny to hear someone say reglan. That is what they give my dogs when I have to take them and pick them up from the vet. They get car sick really bad. I guess it's a regular drug for people, but it was funny reading about it and knowing that my dogs take it/ LOL Susan:laugh:

nyllrp--I get banded on the same day. I am so excited. When I got the news in April, I thought gee, I've still got 4 months to wait, but the months have been cruising by and now it's almost that time. July the 10,I go on a all liquid diet for the 2 weeks prior to surgery. Good Luck to everybody. Susan:thumbup:

Out of control eating; bingeing, please help!
linksmom replied to serenity55's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi, I go on line also. It's very distracting and the time flys by. From Jan-April while I was waiting for my approval via the insurance company, I wasn't really pigging out but I wasn't dieting either. I was border line into the 40 with no major health problems, and I was fearful that if I even lost 5-10 pounds I would not be a candidate for the surgery. My surgery is scheduled for July 24. July 10 I start a 2 week liquid diet. I'm nervous and excited. The only time I have ever really not eaten food is when I was giving blood or doing blood work, and that was for only 12 hours. But today at work, I was reminded that the liquids could be very doable. At least during work hours. I work in non air conditioning. So today when it got to 86 and muggy, I really didn't feel like eating food. For breakfast at 7am I had a protein bar, at 9am I had a bag of chili cheese fritios, and at lunch 11:30 I had a 32 oz gatorade. Came home fell asleep on the sofa and then had country style ribs on the grill. I was alittle worried that I would be starving, but was quickly reminded that when it's hot like today or hotter like it will be later, food just isn't that appealing. NOW TO NOT SOUND LIKE A SAINT............. There are some days where all I want is CANDY!!! I can sit down and eat 4 candy bars, and then crave still more. I'm trying to slow down and wait at least 10 minutes after I am finished to see if I am really still hungary or not. Some days are bad, some days are good. Hope this helps. Susan:cool2: -
Sorry I forgot to mention the book. Had to go look so I didn't put it in before. Weight Loss Surgery/Finding the Thin person Hiding Inside of You by Barabara Thompson

Hi I sent a letter with my things and was excepted. I am not sure if it was the letter or it helped or if they were going to give it to me anyway. I purchased a book, called . They have a mock letter in the back of the book. Sort of a guide line. My letter I mentioned that I was adopted, so I have no medical history info. I was very lucky to be healthy with no co-morbities that THEY recognize. I underlined "THEY". Then I listed the problems that I have that, even though they don't recognize it, the National Health Institute does, ie gallbladder removal, acid reflux, pitting edema in my lower legs. I have also had kneee surgery on both of my knees and a quote from my surgeon telling me that if I didn't lose weight I would always have knee problems and may have to have knee surgery again. (Of course he also said I needed to change jobs, but they didn't need to know that part.) Plus I also tried to list some factual stuff like weight loss surgery is 90% more effective to losing weight and keeping it off then diet and exercise or prescription medication. I went to the internet and copied every thing that I could about weight loss surgery and just composed a letter. And at the end I put "I don't want to be worse before I can get better, and Please help me become the healthier person that I know I can be." I know suck up. But I didn't want to sound to beggee either. Hope this helps. Susan

Aetna Insurance questions - help please
linksmom replied to twinmommy05's topic in Insurance & Financing
Hi twinmommy, I also have Aetna POS that covers 90%after my deductible. I made an appointment with my general practioner(sp) (Who I've only seen once in about the last 6 years) I told him what I was needing to have done, He was very understanding telling me that he had had some other patients that needed the same things that I was asking. So I scheduled 6 appointments roughly a month apart. We talked about my eating, exercising and things that I was trying to do to prevent myself from overeating or staying away from the junk. Needless to say I really wasn't doing these things, but these were the "things" that we needed to discuss for his notes every month. I also had to see a dietician. I paid $50 for a 1 hour consultation with a registered dietician from Hyvee the local grocery store. Sometimes these professionals are less than one from a hospital or office building. I also had to have a psychological evaluation from a psychiatrist. No problem there, because I already see one. Basically they needed a letter from her saying that she thought that I was of sound mind to make my own decisions and to do the things to help maintain the things that I needed to do to renforce the decision I had made. They bascially don't want to have anybody with a major psychiatric problem to undergo this surgery and not be on board with the things you need to do to make this work. Alot of my weight records came from my OBGYN. They were the only doctor that I saw pretty regulary. They also want you to write down all the diets that you have tried or been on. I really didn't have any dates for anything except Slim 4 Life and Weight Watchers. So alot of the dates I just kinda made up. Who could remember decideing on "May 27, 2008 at 1600 hours that I thought I would try the South Beach Diet again". Crazy!!!! :I hope this answers some of your questions, Sorry to have gone on so much, But all this is pretty fresh in my mind. I finished my 6 month eval in January and was approved in April. Good Luck! Susan:lol: -
Been there! I have Aetna too. When I talked to the Surgeon's office they said that my plan had a 3 month multi-discipline deal too, but what they didn't tell me until after I got turned down is that the insurance company usually doesn't go with the 3 month, because they don't think that you've really tried or shown seriousness of trying to particpate. Luckily I was able to resume my monthly dtr visits to make it 6 mos, total. The told me that if there was a break in the 6 mos period then I would have to start all over again. F that!!!:cool2: So I kept going to 6 mos. and then resubmitted everything with an appeal letter. I got it. I'm not sure if it was the appeal letter, because I have to "toot" my own horn and say that I put together a smokin letter. Or...they leaned toward that I've been over 40 BMI for 3 years as opposed to the 2 3 months ago. (much of this is because my last monthly check up was January of this year). So I lost a below 40 BMI with no issues to a year of a 40+ BMI. Ya know added a year and dropped a year for a 5 year history. Whatever! Just keep doind what your doing. Sorry you had to shell out so much money. If it goes through, just consider it an investment into your future. I was just suprised that my insurance even covered it. Most do not. Mine is 90 % after my deductible of $250. 9 more weeks to go...... Hope this helps alittle. Susan----Have a good holiday weekend!

Returning to Work
linksmom replied to greekdiva118's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have a very laborous job. Lots of bending, walking and lifting. I've got about 170 hours of sick time saved up and I'm going to try and push for a month. Also the last thing I want to do is go back to work and be too weak. I would like to get a chance at some solids before I tax my body. Wouldn't want to pass out. :blushing: -
Does anyone have sleep apenea now? I've never had it that I'm aware of. I live alone and even when I was with someone, it was never mentioned. I know what it is, and that it's mainly caused by obesity. Here's the thing...for the last 4+ weeks, I have been soo tired. I go to bed at 11pm and am up at 4am. I've been doing this for the last 8 years. My hours at work have even changed from5-3:30 M-Th to 5-1:30 M-F. So I work another day but not as long on any of the days. All of a sudden, I'm so tired all the time. I'm sleepy on my breaks and lunch breaks and once I get home if I sit on the couch, I'm a goner! I sleep pretty solid. I would say I'm asleep minutes after the lights go out. I don't wake up in the middle of the night. The next thing I know is that the alarm is going off. I read in Prevention magazine that feeling fatiuged or sleepy can be a sign of sleep apenea. I was just curious, I mean my surgery is scheduled in 2 monthes and I know if I am having symptoms of it, it will dissappear soon after I lose some of the weight. Sorry to go on, haven't talked to anyone about this and was curious to what you thought. Thanks for listening Susan

when did you go back to work after surgery>
linksmom replied to armywife4life's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have about 175 hours of sick time accumulated. I am going to strive for a month off. I work in a warehouse unloading trucks all day. Lots of lifting, twisting, bending and walking. I wore a pedometer once and in just a regular 10 hour day I walked over 12,000 steps. Plus if I am on liquids for 1-2 weeks afterwards, I want to get more strength through my food before I go back. -
Allie, There is no pain in the world like tooth pain. (Sorry no kids, to know about labor) I'm sure everything will work out for the best. Usually the pain has recided about 24-48 hours after you start your antibiotics. Good Luck!:biggrin2:

hi,my doctor has given me a 2 week post op diet of all liquids too. The paper work says it's because of the liver. They also cleverly put that if the liver is too big, then they might have to stop the surgery. Boy, if that doesn't make you want to watch your P's and Q's.

Ladies, whatever your losing, I will gladly take. I think I hit puberty and then everything stopped. I have wanted a boob job, longer than I have wanted weight loss surgery. I hoping that with my weight loss, I can get a breast augmentation in a year or so and have it be mostly paid for as a result of my weight loss. I understand your problems though, alot of my friends are very busty and are always complaining. They think I'm a nut that I "want there problems."

1st Day home - Story for upcoming banders
linksmom replied to Freedom2008's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm an ol'pro at surgery. As a kid I never had to go to the hospital with the usual ailments, broken bones or needing stitches.(not sure how, cause I was a real tomboy) But in 2000 I had a torn meniscus in my knee. I remember reading the list of how my surgery would go, and started to freak when I read about the tube being put down your throat. They can't even do the strep test without me almost throwing up. I even tell my dentist at the end of an exam when he checks my jaw and neck and looks around my mouth with his little mirror, to be careful or he'll get a first hand look at my lunch. Then 2 years later the other knee was done. I was less nervous, by then. And another year later, I had emergency gallbladder surgery. Now I know I'll never feel, or know about the tube and it feels like 5 minutes has gone by between them saying "take a deep breath" and "Susan, wake up, it's all done.". Also it's probably the best sleep out there besides being dead. HAHA:ohmy:
