  1. Hi, I was wondering if anyone had any plastic surgery done in Kansas City Mo or in the Overland Park KS area. I have only been banded for 2 months now, and have a ways to go yet. But was wanting to hear some feedback. I'm hopeing that I won't have to have alot of work done. So far I've lost 29 pounds and 27 1/2 inches. But I've always wanted a breast augmentation, so maybe I can work that in. Thanks Susan
  2. Thanks 4 the info:wink2:

    Calcium Chews???

I like the chews as well. They come in a chocolate and a caramel. I like the chocolate better. It's almost like a little treat. They were recommended by my doctor and the box says to chew throughly and not swallow large chuncks. THis was I guess it absorbs better into your system. THe only bad thing is they are a little pricy. But I figure I'm saving soo much money not eating junk food, that it probably balances out in my favor.

    Sweet spot

I've had 2 fills now and I get a third on Wednesday. It'll be 2 weeks this Wedn. since my last fill and I have lost 5.5 pounds. The first time between fill number 1 and 2 I lost 5. I think that's great. They were really impressed with my progress the last time. :cool2:

    Will .25 cc's make a difference?

smsmithart, is it possible for your band to feel like it's getting tighter as the time goes by? I was fine when I left the office, drank with no problem, but now about 1 week out, I'm starting to have problems eating. Some days are great with no problem and others (mostly others) are a real bear to keep anything down, without feeling like crap. I guess I'm just at a loss because of the early signs that everything was fine and now there's a problem.:bolt:

    No sweet spot for me?

You said you were throwing up some liquids, it is quite possible that you may have been dehydrated. I've been plateaued now for about a week. And I can hardly eat anything. I think I need to get a unfill wednesday when I go. I keep telling myself, I didn't gain it all overnight so I won't lose it all overnight. What really matters to me is how well I look by next summer on vacation. So I've got 8+ months to start looking hot. Those little ups and downs will all pay off. Look at it this way, when it does come off, the odds are it'll never come back.:bolt:

    Your two cents please

At first I thought maybe I wasn't chewing enough. But I made a concetrated effort to pay close attention and chew really well. Now maybe my bites haven't been exactly small. But what about the times when I didn't feel bad. I don't think those bites were any smaller. Today I fixed a couple of scrambled eggs for breakfast, and started to get that same feeling, and I barely had 1 egg. I'm going to ask them when I go in on Wed. and see what they think. They didn't seem like they were going to be PO'd if I had to take some out. Next weekend I'm going to California for a wedding and I definately want to be able to enjoy myself. :bolt:
  8. I was just happy they knocked me out for the surgery. And hours after I woke up, the TV had a good channel so I watched a horror flick in my room.:bolt:

    lapband heaven/ hell

I would have told the doctor to kiss my ass! Somebody else can have my fill, there's no reason why he should be so "bothered" that you may have to take some out. Everybody is different. I had my second fill the Thur before last and have been on and off sick. Some things go down but then all of a sudden I'll have a bad day. I go Wed. to get a fill, but it might be any unfill.

    Fill in Kansas City

YOU ARE NOT DUMB!!!!! Your just not used to stepping out of your shell and telling people what you want. I was always afraid of hurting someone's feelings. But no more, I can be tactful, but the way I figure it is if I am paying for a service, then I am damn well going to tell you what is going on. Trust in yourself. I live in KC too. I went to Dr. Malley. I do know that he has another doctor with him now. As of the Sept. You might want to check back, they might have more time now. :bolt:

    Where's Your Port???

My port is on my right side. When I was healing I could feel it in my side. When I go and have a fill, they sometimes ask me to do a crunch type of move this apparently pushes it up to the surface better. But my largest scar is under the middle of my bra strap but above my belly button. I think this is where they put the band in.:bolt:
  12. I work in a warehouse on the receiving dock. I was told the same thing about not lifting over 10 pounds for 2 weeks. I had alot of sick time built up so I took 4 weeks. They said they usually do 3 but they could ok 4. I took it. I wanted to make sure that I was fully recovered before I had to go back to work. We are required to lift up to 75 pounds. (I really don't do alot of heavy lifting, but there's lots of bending, stooping, twisting and lifting. I couldn't bend at the waist(to put my dogs in their kennels) for about 10 days after my surgery. Susan:thumbup:

    My third Fill

I had my 2nd fill Thursday. The nurse practioner pulled all my saline out to check how much was in there, before filling me. Apparently my doctor had filled my band right after he put in in me. My 1st fill he put 3 cc's in. She drew out 6 cc's of fluid. She said it was a good thing that she checked, because she would have over-filled me. I only got .08. My band is a 10. Between fill number 1 and number 2 (2 weeks) I lost 5 pounds. They said that was great! But it felt low to me after losing so much initially. But average is 1-2 pounds a week, so I guess I did OK. I am still not sure where my sweet spot is, but I feel pretty good after 2 fills. Since Thursday I have lost 2- 1/2 more pounds. Maybe I am on my way!!!

    I LOVE Lands End!

I wish all store were like that! It's like trading in your old stuff for new.
  15. I did twice. I had to do a 2 week all liquid diet. The first 9 days were good. Then I went to a late 4th of July party. They were cooking brats and burgers, baked beans cake, chips, dip, desserts, tons of food. I had some pasta salad, watermelon and a handful of chips. I figured it was better that a burger or something huge. And my portions were moderatly small. One other time about day 12, I went with a friend to the Olive Garden, I had salad. I didn't have any complications, and my surgery still went as scheduled. (of course this is not to say you shouldn't follow your doctors orders) Susan:cool2:
  16. Yeah, you could be really be messing with your band. Throwing up can cause your band to slip. I might suggest seeing someone about it. A nutrionist, your doctor, or even a psychiatrist. This could be a bullimic kind of thing. I mean this in the best positive way. But sometimes you get used to a habit, and don't really know why you do the things that you do,don't really want to anymore, but something keeps making you do it. (personal experience) Hang in there, Susan:thumbup:
  17. I lost 13 pounds on my all liquid diet. But I also work in a non-air conditioned warehouse, so Sweating was profuse. The day I came home after my surgery, I was up 5 pounds. But I figured that I had been on an IV for the last 26 hours, so I was probably retaining some water and the anesthia(?) probably wasn't helping anything. But within the week, it went away again. My total loss was 22 pounds. I feel I was really lucky, during my time prior to getting my fill, I only gained 1/2 pound back. Yesterday was a week since my first fill and I lost 3 pounds. It's hard to be optimistic about only 3 pounds, when your used to seeing the scale really move. But they say that 1-2 pounds a week is good. So I'm revamping my positive feelings, by telling myself that I have done a great job. It's not all going to come off over night and persistance will pay off.

    Husband overweight and jealous

Maybe you should do some fun activities together. Walking, rollerblading, window shopping, golf. This will help him and you lose some weight and hopefully will make him feel that your really the same person that loves him even though your becoming a different person. Build up his confidence. Tell him you want him to be as healthy as your going to be and if the two of you work as a team you'll have the rest of your lives together.
  19. Get back up on the horse. I know its difficult to do so when you feel like your old self and your eating habits. I had my surgery on July 24 and didn't get my first fill until Sept. 3. My surgeon told me to eat until I was full. Sometimes that was alot of food. Like 8 1/2 ozs of porkchop or steak, or dare I say, a whole red baron pizza. To my defense, it was a thin crust(scared to eat bread, at least more than just a few bits). I write down everything I put in my mouth. I ate the healthiest that I could as far as avoiding cookies, ice cream and junk.(with the exception of a couple of Werthers candies a day) I dont' drink with my meals and drink about an hour to an hour and a half afterwards. I lost 9 pounds after my surgery, but lost my restriciton 11 days after my surgery. But now after my first fill, I can tell a major difference. Try and get back on track, it will help for when you get your fill. If anything the fill will make you be more careful. But it's all about new habits, and how much you want this. Hope this helps, didn't mean to ramble on. Susan:cool2:

    Tanning post op???

That was the first question I asked my surgeon prior to surgery. I have been back to my regular tanning schedule since 8 days after surgery. I put band-aids on my incisions when I tanned. As they healed I kept them off when tanning. For the first couple of sessions, the heat was really intense on my new sensitive skin, so I had to turn over earlier than usual.

    stitch

Yes, I had that happen twice. One incision I noticed had a white thing on it and I scratched at it and noticed it was a string. So I tugged on it and it was firmly attached inside, so I snipped it and shoved it back in. Everything healed fine. Now my other incision, he cut into an old scar (gallbladder surgery) this one has taken forever to heal. It would look ok, then get all red and raised. Upon further inspection and squeezing, yellowy puss stuff came out. I was told that a stitch may be trying to work its way out. They suggested to put Polysporin on it.(apparently this is different from neosporin. It actually draws out the stuff where neosporin just clogs it up) But still from 2 weeks post op to yesterday, I was still having problems with it. Granted the incision was getting smaller and smaller in the opening, but was still having a discharge. Well as I said yesterday, I saw something after the "stuff" came out. It was a little piece of string. I pulled it and it came right out. It was probably about 3/4" long. Now the incision is less again and hardly anything comes out when I squeeze on it. Finally!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Eating too much post op???!

Happy Labor Day everybody!!! kcmomx3-- I went to Dr. Malley also. Also at Menorah. I go for my first fill Wed. I'm majorally excited. When I went to real food, there's really nothing that I can't eat. Although I haven't had the following: pop, ice cream, cookies, cakes, pies, candy bars, and I try and stay away from bread. Obviously, I don't want to have junk food and am trying hard to elimate it from my life. I'm leary of bread, just because they say it may not be well tolerated. I've been lucky and haven't had any pbing or throwing up and that's the way I want to keep it.(don't even like doing that when I'm sick) I just try and watch my portion sizes and slow down when eating. THis seems to be the hardest to remember. I had some spaghetti a couple of nights ago, and swallowed a fair amount. I literally could feel it slowly going down my throat and got that clammy feeling of oohh ooohh this could be bad. But it got me to slow down and remember to enjoy every morsel. THis is not a race. Keep up the good work, and I'll let you know how my fill went. Susan:cool2:

    Eating too much post op???!

I had my surgery on July 24. My doctor told me for the first 6 weeks after my surgery, weight loss is not what your aiming for. This is your time to let your stomach heal. It takes 6 weeks on average for your scar to heal around your stomach. He also said that after I'm able to start to eat real food again, to eat until I'm full. Sometimes it seems like quite alot of food. I do keep a journal about what I'm eating. This helps me keep track. Sometimes just writing it down, makes you realize more what exactly you've put in your mouth. Then other times I eat and it just gets to where it doesn't intrest me anymore. Like the food is blahh. So I stop. I am very happy with my continued or stable weight loss. I lost 13 pounds on my all liquid diet, 2 weeks prior to surgery. And another 9 pounds the week after. About 10 days after my surgery I lost my restriction feeling.:wink2: But I've managed to hold on only fluctuating up and down by 1/2--2 pounds. They also said that if you gain some weight back that's normal, because your healing. But I'm really glad that I havn't. It is devasting to see the scale move the other way. kcmomx3--who was your doctor? I live just a few miles away, in Independence.
  24. They gave me pain meds every 4 hours in the hospital. I had a script for a liquid pain medication when I got home. I took it religiously every 6 hours the first 3 days after I got home. Then I took it just in the morning and at night. Ending with just at the night the last day or two to help me sleep in case I turned funny in my sleep. By the time the full week was up I wasn't on them anymore. I'm not a big medicine taker. It's a big deal for me to take an aspirin.

    Port pain

I was banded on July 24 08 and every once in a while if I bend or lay on my stomach I can feel my port. Also sometimes if I'm walking I guess too hard ( jiggling?) it hurts my side. I can press againist my stomach and feel where I think my port is. I'll know for sure where it is this Wed. I get my first fill. I'm very excited. I pretty much have NO restriction right now.
