    iron deficiency anemia

Are you being treated with iron supplements? I had bad anemia even before surgery and have to get iron infusions. I was going once a week, but now I go once a month. Now that my iron is getting better, I am feeling so much better! I hope the figure it out for you

    Pouch size?

Meats or dense proteins I weigh out at 3 ounces and I am satisfied. I can eat a good 5 ounce container of yogurt and be satisfied. I am almost 6 months out.

What do I say to my PCP?

Just be honest. I was very worried about telling my primary. I have had her for many years and much like yours knew of my weight issues for many many years. She has tried helping me with diet planning and such but have had no luck. When I told her, of course right away she was like "nope nope nope, lets try this..." and I was devastated. I ended up going home, having a good cry and making another appointment for the following week with my rant about my morbid obesity and high blood pressure. I went back with all the info and she agreed to fill the paperwork out and submit. Long story short, when I came back to her for a routine appointment a few months out and down over 50 pounds and doing very well, she was elated! She was so happy for me. Good luck, just be yourself and be honest

When do you start dropping sizes?

I feel your frustration. I have five months out, down 84 pounds and have only dropped two sizes I am sure it will catch up eventually. I was hoping it would be more noticeable. I do suggest places like goodwill during the losing period. I have fallen back on my local one. I can't speak for all of them, but mine has a great selection of great condition clothes. I have gotten two pairs of Tommy Hilfiger jeans for under $4

    What's for dinner?

I had them in the crockpot for almost 7 hours, but they were done after about 5 hours. I just let them soak in the salsa juices for the additional 2 hours. I had it on high for 2 hours, then switched to low for the remaining time. It is very tasty.

    What's for dinner?

I threw in two small boneless, skinless chicken breasts into the crockpot with a jar of medium salsa. Shredded it and I am enjoying the deliciousness as we speak! Try it if you haven't already. It is soooo tender and juicy and very healthy! This will be probably four more meals for me

    Observation

I have noticed that I kinda get concerned when I see portion sizes. Like last night I went out for Japanese food with some friends and while I had two pieces of seared tuna and two pieces of teriyaki chicken, everyone else was bombarded with food. Rice, soup, noodles, etc. I didn't really say anything because well, they're all skinny and it's not my body, but I did see if and think wow, I totally would've been downing all that pre op for sure. Now though, I am more than happy with picking what I will enjoy the most and enjoy the hell out of it Plus, I find that it is less awkward if I keep my mouth shut. I have noticed that if I talk about portion size, the mood changes. I just want to enjoy my time and fit in with the group.

    Keeping surgery a secret...?

I was planning on keeping it a secret at work but now I found out that we're switching health insurance carriers in October and we need to fill out a health questionnaire that of course asks for any previous surgeries, and all this paperwork is submitted to the HR Manager. If I could trust my HR manager, I would just tell her, but she is the worst gossiper in the building (which is sad considering she is supposed to be the confidential one). My plan is to tell everyone before then so it doesn't come out as a "secret" because if it comes out as a secret they'll talk more about it, but it I just tell them, hopefully it will be all they hype for a couple days and be over with. I work in a small office (8 people total) I initially didn't tell anyone because it is none of their business, and I have heard them scrutinize and pick on someone else for having gastric bypass a while ago. I am the only overweight person in the group. I enjoy my job, but I do not enjoy my co-workers! I did tell my family and friends though, it was just the snooty co-workers I didn't really want to tell.

    Lopsided stomache

I am 5 months post op and mine was lopsided for a couple weeks as well. It evened itself out with continued weight loss and just the muscles healing.
  11. My primary wasn't on board for me at first either. Luckily she still sent over all the required info and I was approved. The time I saw here after surgery, and at the time I was down 50 pounds in like two months and she was amazed and so happy for me. Your primary just might not know too much about it...

    Protein bars

Yes! Power crunch are so yummy. They're like a wafer cookie type. I love those and now I love Quest bars too.

    Hey, No Fair!

I think it depends on the surgeon. I didn't have one. I was up going to the washroom hours after surgery.
  14. You're so pretty! Before and after! Keep up the great work!

Good question. I know I have lost over 80 pounds and I don't see it. Everyone else does, but I don't

    Crab cakes as sliders?

Not sure, but it looks delicious! Yum!

    Is it really worth it?

Exactly! My health was going down the toilet too. High blood pressure and all that crap. I realized that I had to do this if I wanted to live past 45 years old. I am off BP meds, my BP is perfect.

    warning:TMI - constipation

I felt your pain, literally lol. I haven't had the whole constipated issue since I started eating fiber one cereal two times a week. It works wonders! And plenty of water, as well

GAG, so over the chewable vitamins!

I do Flinstones chewable and they're not bad. Maybe I am just used to them...

    Is it really worth it?

Yes, I think it is worth it. I haven't had one of those issues you listed. I NEVER would have been able to lose 80+ pounds on my own...edited, because yes, I have had hair loss, but it isn't impossible to live with. Still worth it.
  21. The dizziness often happens to me, it has for years. Prior to surgery I did collapse. Mine is due to low hemoglobin and very low ferritin counts. I get iron infusions, and it helps. Iron and blood problems are not very common in men, due to you not losing blood during menstruation, but I would have them check your levels, you might be losing blood a different way. Good luck, I know it isn't fun to feel that way.

    Best Protein Shake

I second Syntax Chocolate Truffle. I add PB2 and it tastes like a peanut butter cup. I also like the Syntax Vanilla mixed with fruit like peaches or banana.

    how is this even possible?

I had it bad too. I took generic prevacid for several months and very rarely need to take it anymore.

Don't be scared. It will grow back. It is so worth it, I would do it again
