Surgery date - July 15
babywools replied to babywools's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm really excited and just a bit nervous. So ready to be on the other side! My pre-op is the 9th as well! -
I saw the surgeon today and got all my vitamins and protein supplements (is that not racket? $350 for 90 days of vitamins am two bags of Bariatric Advantage protein). I am lucky - I don't have to do a full liquid pre-op except the day before. I'm on three shakes a day and one lean meal. He explained that it has to do with BMI. I am a 38 BMI (major comorbities), so he feel confident my liver will be okay on that. Makes me happy. I am starting the pre-op tomorrow and then on July 14 I go to clear liquids for my July 15 date. It is starting to feel real!

Did you keep your surgery a secret?
babywools replied to KanesMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Initially I planned to tell only my husband and kids and a couple close friends. As it has gotten closer and has become real, I have been telling more people. Everyone is supportive and excited for me. My husband went on a diet with me -the rat bastard lost 50 pounds to my paltry 15 - and has been supportive. So I would say play it by ear ad do what is comfortable for you. It has become much easier to talk about the more I do so. And I have found support in the oddest places. Good luck! -
I got my date today - July 15! So excited!!!

I started this journey in January and finally on Thursday I will see the surgeon for the final appointment before surgery. Fingers crossed! Can't wait to finally get my date! I am off to buy some protein and make a list if what I need. Are there any questions you would recommend asking the surgeon? I feel like I have researched the heck out of this, but want to go into it eyes wide open.

Are you going to the hospital alone?
babywools replied to FindingElise's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I plan to have my husband take me and drop me off. Then I have told him he can leave and bring the kids after I wake up. I figure I will wake up, try to walk, put on my bra and panties and then text that they can come see me. He will pick me up too. -
I have a pair of jeans that I bought last time I lost weight that never quite fit...but I never reached goal last time. I can't wait until they fit and then are too big! I am most looking forward to buying new swimsuits for vacation next year. I may even go for a bikini for the first time ever.

Traveling when sleeved
babywools replied to babywools's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Thank you! I am hoping I get my date today. -
I travel a lot for work. I have been trying to figure out how to manage the dietary requirements after surgery. Has anyone else had to work around travel? How do you manage the different stages of food?

Anyone worried about being "too skinny"?
babywools replied to alyshac's topic in Gastric Sleeve Surgery Forums
I have had a few stray thoughts about losing my booty. But I figure since I had before I got fat, it will still be there after. I am looking forward to a whittled waistline again! -
Why are so many people disappointed when they "only lose" this and that much weight?
babywools replied to Sweetcarol238's topic in Weight Loss Surgery Success Stories
I am still pre-op (approved, just waiting on a date), but my goal going into this is to lose 2-3 pounds a week after the initial drop. I am guessing I will lose 5-10 pounds on the pre-op diet and then another 5-10 in the liquids stage. After that, I will be thrilled with 2-3 pounds a week. It has taken me four weeks to drop 2 pounds without the sleeve. Plus, the slower weight loss will help with skin firmness according to my doc. As of today I have 80 pounds to lose to reach my goal if 130. I fully expect it to take a year to lose it all. I hope I have set realistic expectations for myself, but only time will tell. -
My doc told me up front, but I have a heart condition. So I would ask on your first appt if you need one and then call and schedule ASAP.
-
I would make the appointment as soon as possible. It took me a month to get in with my cardiologist.
-
I got mine yesterday. I went to my cardiologist, had an EKG, talked to her about the surgery and she was very supportive. Now she will send a letter to surgeon clearing me and explaining my heart condition.

Final task complete...waiting on surgury date
babywools posted a topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I completed my final task yesterday - a cardiac surgical clearance. My cardiologist was thrilled that I am having this surgery. So now, I have my final consultation with the Bariatric surgeon and then a surgery date. . When I started this process in January I had hopes to be sleeved by April, but honestly I am glad for the longer wait, it has given me more time to get ready and adjust. -
I finished my last diet visit and had my EGD done about 10 days ago. It was all submitted and I was approved on Monday. I didn't find out until Wednesday because I was traveling, but I am so excited. My last hoop to jump through is a cardiac clearance an EKG. I should have surgery in mid-June.
-
I love how you tell your story. I started this journey about the time you did. Finished my supervised diet (3 months) and was approved by insurance. My surgeon requires a cardiology clearance - I have CAD and a heart valve issue - so I do that tomorrow. I hope to meet with the surgeon later this week or next get scheduled for mid- June. Ready to start the next phase of this journey.

I am hoping for June. I'm approved and just have to get cardiology clearance and meet with the doc.

Did you keep your surgery a secret?
babywools replied to KanesMom's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I have told my husband, (who thinks I'm crazy but is supporting me because he loves me and wants me to be happy), my kids (who don't really understand but just want me to be happy), my best friend, a good friend from my kids school, my three counterparts at work, another co-worker, and my mom (who cried an somehow decided it was her fault I can't stop eating). I told my boss and my employees I was having a "minor procedure". I still pre-op. I was approved Monday and found out Wednesday and will set my surgery date for mid-June. I will decide later if I want share with the whole world. Up until Wednesday, I wasn't sure I would be approved (although at 90 pounds over ideal and with four co-morbidities I thought it was a safe bet). I don't want people to judge me by how I lose the weight. I want them to judge me on who I am. After the surgery, I may share with more people. It will be education for them, but for now, it is personal and only people I am close to know. I think it is a choice each person has to make. I am a naturally introverted person, so I choose to keep if to myself. -
I hope you hear back as quickly as I did!

Thanks! Good luck to you. I have Cigna and I have heard they can be tough.
