    Just got home

Hi everyone. I just got home from having the surgery. I'm exhausted so I will write more tomorrow, but the one thing wanted to ask about is swelling. I didn't notice it while I was in teh hospital, but now that I'm home, I'm noticing that I am very swollen. Is this normal? I don't see it listed in any of my literature. Thanks!
  3. I can't beleive it, but tomorrow morning, very early, I will be on my way to have my surgery. I'm not too nervous at the moment, but I know it's because I'm doing everything I can to just not think about it. I'm sure I will be a complete basket case tomorrow. Originally when they called me today to give me my surgery time, it was for 1:30 PM, but about an hour later they called to tell me it had changed and I'm now the first one being done tomorrow morning at 7:30 AM. I need to be at the hospital at 6:00. I'm glad I don't have to wait all day. I just want to get this part of it over with and begin my new banded life. Thank you all for the great information. It's really helped me to have a better understanding of what to expect. I'll be home sometime on Saturday and will check in then.

    Huge NSV and pictures!!!!

Thanks Mandy! That's great to know. I love those Dole Whips too! I hadn't thought about asking for half portions, although I know Disney is so accommodating for special situations. I figured I would just eat a bit of whatever my DH ordered. We're heading down next in January. Can't wait!

    Huge NSV and pictures!!!!

Hello from a fellow Disney enthusiast! We go to Disney very often and one of the things (among many, many others) that we love about Disney are all the great restaurants! Dining there has always been a big part of our trips, so I was wondering what it will be like post banding. Where you still able to enjoy some of the things you love, but just in much smaller quantities? I guess places like Chef Mickey's will be out of the question (or at least not worth the cost.) I am excited about the many positive things like you mentioned, being able to tour the parks longer without getting exhausted and wearing shorts in the parks (I would always were long pants or capris, even on the hottest of days). It will be great. Congratulations on your fantastic acheivements!
  6. I'm a little nervous now. I was originally scheduled to have my surgery on October 4th, but I had an abnormal EKG come back so my Dr. wanted me to undergo further testing. So they rescheduled my surgery for this coming Friday, the 14th. I'm supposed to call the hospital a week ahead of time to pre-register for the surgery, so I called on Friday and left a message. They just called me back and said that I am not scheduled! If I have to change around my time off from work a third time, they are NOT going to be happy. My Surgeon's office is having phone trouble today, so I can't get through, but left a message with their service. :cry

did it grow on ya, or always fat?

Glitterqueen, my situation is much like yours. I was thin most of my life although I did start to get a bit chubby in my "tween" years, then got very thin, probably too thin in my teens. It wasn't until I turned 25 that I started to gain, but once I did, it just didn't stop. Over the years I managed to lose enough weight to look like my thinner self twice, but I always gained it back after a while, and then some. For the past several years though, I have tried a zillion diets and have failed at each one.

How Fast / Slow Do You Eat

I'm so excited to hear that some people are still able to guzzle water. I was just thinking today how I will miss taking a nice big sip of water when I'm really thirsty. I've been trying little sips just to get used to it and it's not the same thing. I guess time will tell if I'm able to do the same.

    October Bandsters Date List

Hi! Can I be added to the list? My surgery is scheduled for the 14th.
  10. Oh wow! Two more days! Are you getting nervous? excited? Please check in and let us know how everything went. It's so nice to be able to share this journey with others going through the same thing.
  11. Hi thanks for your response. I don't smoke, although I did when I was younger. It's been about 17 years though since I smoked. When I had my blood tests done for my P.A.T's they found out that I am borderline diabetic (also runs in my family). My Dr. said it's a good thing that I'm getting this surgery now as these problems are just beginning. I am having the Nuclear (thalium)stress test and I'm pretty sure it will be the walking test. I read up on it a bit, but I'm still not sure I know exactly what's involved. They said I will be there about 3 or 4 hours. I will be sure to post how everything went. Thanks so much!
  12. HI! I am new to the board and so happy that I found this place. I a patient of Dr. Kurian's in NY. The process has gone sooo smoothly. I met with her for the first time in mid august and I was scheduled for surgery tomorrow (10/4/05) My Dr. was late in getting the results of my P.A.T's though and I got a call on Friday from my Dr. saying that my EKG came back abnormal and that he couldn't give me medical clearnance without further testing. Yikes. I have never had any problems before, but heart disease does run in my family. Needless to say, no surgery tomorrow. and I am hopeful that it won't be anything too serious. I was doubly disappointed, one in finding out that there might be something wrong with my heart and also in not being able to go through with the surgery. So anyway, instead of having surgery tomorrow, I am going for a thalium stress test and if all goes well, my band surgery will now take place on the 14th. I was so glad that I wasn't going to have to wait another couple of months. I'm getting more and more nervous about the surgery and am jsut looking forward to getting it over with. I try to focus on life after the surgery instead of dwelling on the actual surgery itself. Anyway, I am currently 240 pounds and am hoping to lose about 100 pounds. Although I will be hapy with anything! Losing weight has been such a struggle for me and I am looking forward to the help that the band offers.

    Stop worrying about calories?

I agree that the whole concept of "dieting" causes you to be thinkng to much about food. Have you ever talked to a person who doesn't struggle with thier weight? They don't think about food the way that an overweight person does. For the most part a thin person is able to balance what they eat, making better choices to eat healthier foods, but also eating other types of foods that they enjoy from time to time. Learning to eat things that were previously "bad" in smaller quantities and learning "everything in moderation" is key. Not constantly obsessing about everything that goes into your mouth, which will eventualy lead to feeling deprived and then binging. The lap band seems to help people to acheive a more balanced approach to eating.
