    No appetite

My appetite returned around 3 weeks post-op ... drinking helps it subside - for a while. I am also on Prilosec. But, it is not the same hunger I felt before. Just a reminder that I need to eat or drink something.

    4wks today! Anybody eating

Week 5 & have been eating tuna, egg salad, chicken salad & hummus with Keebler Baked Pita Crackers for a couple of weeks. Did the cracker test first (if dissolves in glass of Water in 30 minutes) & had no problems.

    is this normal?

There is an excellent youtube video on why you shouldn't drink while eating with bariatric surgery. He uses a clear glass, a funnel filled with applesauce & 1/2 cup of Water. I totally get it now!

    Surgery

Welcome home! Concentrate on the hydration and get you some Isopure protein drinks. 40 grams of fruity protein per 20 ozs. - really helped me out the first several days

First time going out for dinner

I went to Big Boy yesterday, first time out for dinner. I had broccoli with ham soup. Looked it up on Fitness Pal sitting right at the table! I chewed it very well and also didn't finish it. Just wished I had asked for the lemon water in a "to go" cup

    STUCK! AHHHH

Yep, you are in a stall. Just keep drinking, moving, stay on your program. It will come down. (I get why you want so bad to see that come down under the 300!) The fact that your clothes are feeling looser - lets you know that you are burning fat! Keep going!
  7. I agree with TES ... I don't usually comment on someone's weight - either way. I would say something like "you are looking good!" (if I noticed weight loss) and "so nice to see you!" (if they hadn't). I think I would rather have someone say that - than to question me about weight loss in the grocery store Personally, I have dropped from a size 20 pants to a 16 (some 14's) and even my parents haven't noticed! Neither have my grandchildren - which is way cool to me! They love me no matter what

    Surgery Over 50

Age 57 and my recovery has been great! I did have a lot of pre-op testing - due to age and medical conditions - but that was O.K. with me
  9. Great way to exercise! I just got cleared (3 weeks) for more exercise. I hate walking ... feels like I'm not accomplishing anything. My husband got one of those big zero turn mowers (we mow 5 acres) and I don't feel ready to be bounced around on that mammoth thing! So, I had him haul out the small push mower and I have been using that! I can mow for an hour and feel like I am accomplishing something! I stop a few times for hydration and each day mow for one hour. I...

    Is this normal?

LOL ... I practiced sipping/swallowing techniques pre- surgery. Take a sip, hold it in mouth, let a little drift back ... and swallow! I still have to burp too! Not a big belch ... just a forced, closed mouth burp. Then I can drink more. This does get better with time. But, still have to burp. Even with food.

    Typical day on full liquids?

Clear liquids only while in hospital (2days) 1 oz. every 30 minutes, working up to 2 ozs. every 30 minutes. Home now: Only took pain meds first night, cramping and stomach meds twice. Tummy sore - getting up and laying down for first 3 or 4 days. Then, just incisions sore. Typical day. Up around 6:30 A.M. - check blood sugar levels (which have been great! Taken off Metformin day 14), take Prilosec, sip on a warm cup of fruity herbal tea. Within an hour 7:30 - eat breakfast of plain greek yogurt with SF Smuckers strawberry jelly in it (started out a few bites, worked up to 1/2 cup) Really liking cream of wheat lately - bump up protein by making w/milk & adding scoop nonfat dry milk. Drinking Isopure, thinned out with crystal light at first. Now, no problems with just plain water. Snack around 10:30 of protein shake ( 3 or 4 ozs. at first- worked up to 6 ozs.) Lunch around 1:30 usually some cream of whatever soup, but can blenderize just about any soup, lentil, bean are good choices. Add milk. Continue drinking, eating SF jello or popsicles, diluted diet cranberry juice or even skim milk. Better than bouillion is good too. 4:30 snack - shake or thinned, instant SF pudding (bumped up with scoop of protein powder) Dinner around 7:00 - usually blended soup, can bump up protein by adding stage one baby food meats (or puree your own), mix in well. First few days - got most of protein from Isopure - God send! I was on full liquids for first 2 weeks, no vitamins until after that. Now in puree - moving to soft foods. Take 1/2 my BP meds and Cholesterol meds at night. Day 24 for me. Sip slowly, burp when you can and stop eating/drinking when you feel like you have to burp, but can't. Hope that helps

    surgery was 12 days ago

Wonderful post! Loved every detail - all very similar to mine - except the saliva part. No nausea past day one

3 weeks post op check in

I am 3 weeks out today too! We have lost the very same amount! I am transitioning to soft foods today. I love your "green shake" idea! My Doc wants me to shoot for 2# per week But, I am expecting a stall soon - everyone says it happens.

    sweet treat full of protein

I really miss fruit! I puree & strain strawberries, blueberries & add them to yogurt. Also, bought sf jelly to add to cream of wheat or yogurt.

    Thanks! I will try it

    Nutribullet

I made my tiny Protein shakes in it from day 3 or 4. Now puree in it.

    Nutribullet

I paid $15 in the clearance section for one made by G.E. called Single Serve Blender. It comes with 2 blades (1 for blending, 1 for grinding) and BONUS! 5 large & 1 small cups. Just make your shake/smoothie then flip, remove grinder, add comfort ring & go! I use it to puree everything!

    Slowing down

I came home from the hospital - having gained 4 or 5 pounds! Took a few days (water weight from IV fluids) for that to come off, then - nothing for 4 or 5 days! Then, one morning I woke up and stepped on the scale - down 5 pounds! I have decided to just weigh once a week and just do what I'm supposed to be doing. 18 days out ...

    4 days out

    pureed foods for postop

Breakfast: Greek yogurt, cream of wheat, 1/2 banana protein smoothie Lunch: Puree just about any canned soups, lentil, split pea, bean, tomato (make with milk and add a scoop of nonfat dry milk to up the protein) Dinner: Ricotta bake (layer ricotta mixed with egg and parmasan cheese) tomato sauce - top with mozzarella- bake or microwave. Any creamed soup, cottage cheese, hummus, fat free refried beans. You won't be able to eat much at first - maybe just a few bites, but it will get better. I used Isopure protein drinks for first few days - hydrates and has 40 grams protein per bottle. Hope that helps

Decaf tea...can you have it after surgery ?

I had warm decaf tea (love the fruity herbal varieties w/Splenda) and it helped me not miss my morning cup of coffee so much As long as it is decaf you should be able to include in fluid intake.

    Omelet (pureed stage)

Sounds wonderful! I am on day 7 post-op (full liquids) and growing tired of shakes/soups (been on them for 5 weeks now) so I made blueberry yogurt for breakfast. It was divine! I started with vanilla greek yogurt, a handful of frozen blueberries (thawed in microwave for 30 seconds) pureed them, added Splenda and ran them through the sieve. Then drizzled the sweet blueberry syrup on on top of 1/4 cup yogurt. Went down well, has been two hours and no ill effects! Anybody else want to share a breakfast item?
