Prilosec and week one post op
Bluto replied to beck70's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was 7/9 and I've been taking two Omeprazole at night. My Doc 's instructions were to do that for 30 days. Keeping the acid low helps the healing process and the swelling of the stomach. -
I'm doing good. I worked from home on Monday, today I was out and working all day. Then I went to the gym and did the elliptical for 30 minutes. That kicked my butt. I am exhausted. I'm still on all clears so I'm getting about 250 calories a day. The elliptical burned 350 so not much fuel in the tank. I'm not in pain but still very aware that something happened inside me and I feel like I should be getting a PhD in Burpology. Everyday gets a little better, I can actually swallow a normal amount of liquid so that means the swelling is going down.

I just ordered a variety case of the Isopure, (cheapest price I found was a site called Luckyvitamin). That should give me an idea of which flavors are worth buying a case. It's expensive stuff so it sucks if you don't like it. I have seen many people recommend drinking it ice cold or cutting it with water.

Our PCP doesn't want to do Post-Op care after Mexico surgery
Bluto replied to gamergirl's topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I just had surgery in Mx last week, so i'm not an expert on all the follow up. Originally when I discussed my intentions with my PCP prior and he was not keen on the whole Mx thing. I think it's just a typical response from lack of information. The care I received in Mexico was BETTER than the care I feel I have received in the past in US. Not so much in the actual medical care, but in the attitudes of the people performing their duties. Most of my US hospital experiences have felt like an assembly line conveyor belt sort of thing. Insurance companies and lawyers have ruined the US medical system... but I digress. Once I explained that the follow up shouldn't be anything more than blood work and nutritional recommendations he was on board. -
All you pre-op diet folks, first, good luck and second, just remember that the purpose is to help your surgeon and make your surgery safer and your recovery faster! Trust me, cheating isn't worth any extra pain or a larger hole for the liver retractor post-op.

Thanks for the post! I'm laying here in a hospital bed with an IV waiting for them to come get me. My fight or flight instinct is in full gear and I am tempted to run out of this place with no regard to the fact that my ass is completely exposed in this gown. That, the white compression leggings, and the hairnet make me quite a site. Not my most macho day but your post made me smile.

I've got two days left before my surgery. The prep diet has gone well, down 14#. I'm hungry and there has been lots of temptation but its short term and it will make the surgery go better, so not a big deal. Here's the weird part, being a guy I am used to my dreams being driven by my baser instincts. My dreams are mostly testosterone fueled adventures, think action movie / porn. So the last few nights it seems my brain has a taken a turn from the usual having sex while driving through explosions on a high-speed car chase to the food channel. Yes ladies and gents, I am dreaming about food and not healthy food. I can't recall ever having a food dream but I've got them now. So I guess if fat guy can't have his way when I'm awake, he's going to pig out in my dreams. Of course one of them was hotdogs chasing donuts so the testosterone is still there on some level.

If you're super gasy and it makes a lot of music, you could go with Sleevie Ray Vaughn

Well tomorrow is the pre-op full liquid for a week and basically tonight is the last day I will have solid food for a month. Wow that seems like a long time.

why do i want to eat....and eat at night?

That's been my problem my whole life. I can be good all day, as soon as the sun goes down I lose all resolve. If you figure it out, let me know. -
I'm July 9th in TJ Mexico. anyone, anyone?

Not to turn this into a political discussion, but the President saying he and his family will participate is very misleading. The President has a private physician on staff. The White House doctor has an office inside the White House. He or she also oversees a staff which is typically composed of five military physicians, five nurses, five physician assistants, three Medics, three administrators and one IT Manager. This is for the President, the VP, and their families. They also handle visitors and guests if needed. Ex-presidents get free medical care as well from Military hospitals Congress enjoys a similar benefit. There is an Attending Physician of the US Congress and his staff. They pay $503 annually for all the care they receive. Laws are for the people, not the lawmakers. All that being said I pay $515 monthly for my insurance and I'll be going to Mx because they don't cover WLS. I also see many folks from Canada heading to Mx. I don't have anything specific, but I can't imagine WLS under the AHCA will be easier, faster, or less expense than it is today.

how do you keep this a secret?
Bluto replied to miangr's topic in Tell Your Weight Loss Surgery Story
Most people are easily distracted, I just plan on pointing at something shiny and saying "What's that thing?" -
I am scheduled for July 9th and have been working with Lora. I think if you go directly to Dr Kelly's office you get Lora, if you go through Mexico Bariatric you'll get someone else.

I would have to say that if someone else was paying for it, I'd rather recover in my own bed than a rented bed. Of course I would still research the hell out of anyone that's going to cut on me.

I'm self pay and in the process of evaluating Docs. Mexico seems like the best option because the cost is significantly less and there are many excellent surgeons. Logic seems to dictate that if you only do one thing and you do it often, you will be good at it. The surgeons I've researched locally don't have close to the number of procedures of some of the well known Mexican Docs. So Mexico seems like an easy decision for me.

Congratulations! and Good Luck!
