Decaf tea...can you have it after surgery ?
ChristineR replied to laners777's topic in Food and Nutrition
I could have decaf coffee and decaf tea and count it as clear liquids. -
Looking for inspirational success stories from women who are 5"11
ChristineR replied to Heather Meyer's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
The book I read said that taller people have a higher success rate. Not sure why though or how much truth is in it. I was 5'9 but I seem to be 5'8 1/2" ... Not as tall as you so I don't have that answer, sorry. -
Diet after the sleeve
ChristineR replied to bamagirl57's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I never had a clear phase but I did have 2 weeks of a liquid diet. Then soft/mushy for the next 10 weeks. -

Did you ever figure out what was going on? Just today I started feeling a weird sensation in my left abdomen. -
fever fever fever!

Have to agree with the others. Fever can signal infection or leak. Better to be safe than sorry! -

Didn't realize that I had lost so much hope
ChristineR replied to kiwi17's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I am missing sizes. I am down 2 sizes but have nothing but one pair of jeans until I get down 2 more sizes. Then it's another 2 sizes after that where I can wear tons of old stuff. -
So awesome that you have a strong support system!! I truly hope this nightmare ends sooner than later for you. I had to go and give my kids a HUGE hug. We should never take good health for granted. PS. I did not notice a weak language at all

I was high protein, low carb .. but lunch was still deli meat on one slice of multigrain bread with tomato. Dinner was protein with side of brown rice or potatoes. Breakfast was strictly protein shake AND I had to add a protein shake to every meal. If I still needed a snack I could have sugar free jello, sugar free popsicle, 5oz v8 juice. My liquid diet was only the day before surgery as well. I guess every doctor/NUT has their own rules as to what they want followed. I find it so interesting how different they all are.

It gets better. I felt angry and thought I made a mistake in the liquid phase. I never had a real puree stage, just soft/mushy food, but once I could eat real food again (I thought I might forget how to chew) things turned around big time!

How about some cream of chicken soup mixed with some milk (strained of course) .. you can add some nonfat dry milk in there as well for extra protein. Anything to give you some umph

Wow! Who could blame you for being upset?? I wouldn't want to lose weight by being stuck in a hospital, in chronic pain, separated from my family and, to top it off, with an all liquid diet. So, what are they thinking now? Did they give you a time frame for when things could heal up? What is a pleuresia? Don't spare us, please! That's not fair to you because you had a downright traumatic, awful experience to be unable to vent because people don't want to hear what happens when something goes wrong. How's your family holding up? That can't be easy watching you go through this!

3 days post op. still no BM. :0 normal?
ChristineR replied to chanceg07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I got most of my calories from the protein shakes in my liquid stage. But I didn't have a clear liquid stage, just liquids. -

Everyone has a different experience with it. The surgery will bring huge lifestyle changes. I, personally, thought I made a huge mistake the first week out of surgery but once I transitioned to more solids and things felt more "normal" my feelings started to change. In other words, it's been great changes for the whole family. A lot less eating out, healthier ways of cooking, more Water intake by everyone, more active as a family. I have days where I get mad because I want to go devour biscuits from Red Lobster but I think about how much better I already feel and I accept it. I cannot lose weight on my own. I have come to terms with that. I will have good days and bad days. As for the risk of death the actual statistics are very, very low. Complications can happen but hopefully they won't.

3 days post op. still no BM. :0 normal?
ChristineR replied to chanceg07's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Don't stress. You are going to use up everything you take in so your BM will be less and possible loose or constipated. I can go days without one and then my body likes to purge itself over the next few days. That's when my weight drop starts again LOL -
Gummy vitamins post-op

I just want to say that you handled the criticism/feedback very well. It takes courage to come on here and admit to what happened. Hope all is well! -
April Sleevers..... how much have you lost so far?
ChristineR replied to toni123's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Interesting how every doctor/NUT has different rules. For yogurt I am to have low carb/low sugar which is just about impossible to find. Danon Greek Light and Fit was the closest. I also despise cottage cheese. I wondered if my choice of "cheese" was ok but she seems to think it is. That and hummus is my go-to snack. If I handle 4 oz meals I don't do snack or it's one 2 oz snack. If I'm doing 2 oz meals I try to get the 5 small meals in so that I can take my medicine. -

Some stalls last a long time but it will kickstart back (at least that's what I've heard). I'd love to hear what people eat. I know that question wasn't for me but I'll share as well: Breakfast was one scrambled egg (really struggle putting Protein powder in it) with .8 oz reduced fat turkey sausage (kroger brand), and 1 oz unsweetened applesauce. lunch was 2.6 oz light tuna with 1 hardboiled egg, 1 tbsp low fat mayo and some mustard (could only eat half of the portion I made), dinner was 2 oz baked salmon with a little bit of bbq sauce on it (NUT will probably yell at me for the bbq sauce) and a 1 oz side of canned carrots, and my snack was 1wedge of laughing cow light cheese garlic and herb with .5 oz stacys naked pita chips. I'm not allowed to eat raw fruit or vegetables unless completely cooked/softened and I can't have any ruffage yet. -
Hmm I never had that test.

I heard the same thing. Often surgery brings out issues that we didn't know were there like lactose intolerance.
-
I was told I could have lean red meat but avoid steak. I have had zero issues with it. But it could be your body just doesn't tolerate it anymore. I would just scratch that off your list for now. I can't seem to handle chocolate flavors anymore (pudding, protein powder) without feeling completely nauseated.

I just saw this post. What a difficult thing to go through especially having to worry about children. I have 3 myself and I was stressed with being away for 2 nights. I hope your recovery is coming along and that you are about to get great results that it all healed up! Please keep us posted!

I had my first post-op appointment. And my liver results are in!
ChristineR replied to LipstickLady's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Crazy, I have the same thing. Well, they aren't sure if it's an actual mass or lots of little veins together. They found it during an ultrasound of my gallbladder and then sent me in for a CT Scan. They tried to biopsy it in surgery but it was so far over they didn't want to risk me bleeding. Now I have to get an MRI in the summer. They did rule out cancer already so that's a plus.
