help do I have a leak?
ChristineR replied to ********'s topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Was this your first time adding fish? You may not be able to handle it. I almost threw up biting into a shrimp I can't seem to tolerate seafood as well anymore. -
I'm a stay at home mom of 3 kids. My 7 yo will be starting 2nd grade, my 5 yo will be starting Kindergarten (half days though) and I have a soon to be 3 yo. My weight gain really increased after having babies but it went really bad being at home all the time. My second baby was very difficult and that's when I started going nowhere and just staying at home eating my way through her colic and acid reflux. Apparently some habits are hard to break Anyways, I was sleeved in April. I thought it would be harder than what it is being at home but I don't find it too terribly bad. The only times I really seem to struggle is around PMS days when sugar suddenly looks good. I'm always trying to come up with creative ways to cook food that we can all eat. The kids are really enjoying some of the meals off emilybites.com and our new meat in the house, turkey, seems to be an even bigger hit... who knew?! The husband is actually the super picky one. He ended up loving the lasagna bites and the ricotta bake. The house is staying cleaner, laundry getting done more frequently, playing more outside and getting out more. This has been quite a positive change so far! How's everyone else handling the staying at home with the kiddos?

Period is worse post op :( this sucks
ChristineR replied to mariamitani's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I had an ablation so I don't get a period minus a strange 6 week stink back over christmas. That being said, I like to call it my virtual period because I still go through the bloating, exhaustion, PMS, etc. I've noticed for a week now I'm more swollen, very moody and irritable, incredibly tired, face breaking out, thinking about sugar (not given in) ... and I'm wondering if I'm on a long period like others describe. -
Tight sleeve in the morning?
ChristineR replied to sr910's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I don't have advice but my doc said that other patients found it easier to have a protein drink for breakfast because of the same complaint. -

ChristineR replied to New me after 7's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Oh wow that would be incredibly frustrating!! Just wait ... when the weight loss waterworks turn on there will be no stopping it! -
no weight loss!
ChristineR replied to christina0613's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I gained over 20 pounds of fluid in the hospital. One week out I still wasn't where I started. By two weeks it was surpassing my initial weight. Nurse told me it could take 3-6 weeks to have the water weight move through. -
The nurses recommended I take the pain meds while in the hospital saying it helps speed up the recovery so I did. (Not saying if it's true or not) If anything I slept soundly and it forced me to rest. At home I had 3 more and it was mostly to sleep. I was taking hydromorphone since I'm allergic to codeine.

Lifting restrictions

10 for 4 weeks ... Good thing my 2.5 year old is very independent LOL -
You guys are lucky! My NUT is very resistant to us eating avocado because it's "easy to overeat it". I really haven't even tried but I do love avocado!

How long to eat salad?
ChristineR replied to sunshiinej1's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can't wait to have a lil salad again. I'll be given the salad go ahead at my 4 month visit. If it hurts your stomach I would just avoid it for now. Speaking of salads, what do you put on it to help with protein? Make it a chopped salad with egg/ham? -
There has got to be a better way
ChristineR replied to tomato pie's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Interesting. I had a really hard time when I put it in my coffee. Maybe I will try again. Have you gone to bariatricadvantage.com? I peruse the website once in a while but haven't bought anything yet. -
pain in left chest and arm should I call my surgeon
ChristineR replied to littlebigman's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm going to guess they are looking for a leak. Of course, how long ago were you sleeved? It could also be pain from the gas post surgery if you were sleeved recently. I hope everything is ok! Keep us posted! -
The weigh loss is quite rapid in the beginning. I'm eight weeks out and I just vowed to weigh myself once a week now. I'm sure that will eventually change as well. I tell myself that there is no way I can't lose weight. I'm getting in 500-700 calories a day and exercising daily so if the scale doesn't want to move that's ok because I can tell my pants are.

Bad Habits Creeping Back Up WAY to soon! PCOS
ChristineR replied to Lia M's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Being that you have PCOS your hormones are probably fluctuating more and I do think those fluctuations cause cravings. I'm not saying this to be mean, it's what I have to do myself: If I can handle a few bites I'll go for it. If it will make me binge or crave more I avoid it like the plague. So now you know those lil goldfish crackers are a binge food. I found a great snack, turkey Jerky by jack link's, when I just want something to chew on. For starters, it takes forever to really mash it up so time goes by slowly just eating a little bit hehe. Good luck! -
How has VSG Affected your Marriage?
ChristineR replied to GBFree82's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It was really hard on us the first few weeks when he had to pick up the slack with the kids (3 kids ages 7 and under). But since then it has started getting better. He's more responsive to eating better, we stay home all the time for meals, we encourage each other in the exercise department. I see changes for the better now. -
Tips for dealing with a sore abdomen?
ChristineR replied to HatheryOnHerWay's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Hather, Only thing I can think of is a warm heating pad. asmith, is the coughing from being sick or something else? There is a tylenol with codeine in it my doctor gave me once. It was so wonderful and I stopped coughing. -
When you can get the real foods/meats in I'm sure you will feel full. Sometimes the soft stage goes down so easily it's harder to differentiate.
-
I love how in tune we are with our bodies when we go through something. I hope, for your sake, it's not a leak. Every time I feel something it's the first thing I think of. I wonder when that fear will pass?! I agree with the others. If at all concerned then call.

I Dont Like Food Anymore
ChristineR replied to newgrandmother's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Looks like an old post but it's funny that it came back around. I was just telling my husband tonight that I have no desire to eat. It's not a lack of being hungry ... it's just not having a desire. I make myself have some protein drinks and try to get a meal/snack in a day but it's not pleasurable atm. I wasn't this way last week so don't know what changed. -
*HUGS* ... want us to track him down for you? Go treat yourself to something self-deserving like new clothes, pedicure, movie ... Sorry you are going through this! Try to keep your chin above water. It's not you that made him cheat. You deserve more, go and get it!

5 weeks post op and feeling bouts of nausea during the day...
ChristineR replied to sherrypep's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I'm assuming you treat a revision like the first time? I would think Prilosec would be a great way to start! My kiddo is on prevacid now and her tummy would randomly hurt on and off during the day before they started her on it.
