I had it about a month out, I was basically back to norm eating though. Careful when you do try it, it's a slider for me and lots and lots of other people I have read

Thank you Katie. Laura - what can I say? I do really like my mum in law, small doses of no more than three days at a time I can handle quite well…

LOL You're a funny lady. Yes to dream about spending is just sheer happiness. Nice house, new cars, somewhere nice for my mother in law, siiiggggggghhhhhhh. I'm sure that could bring me a certain degree of happiness!

I know it's bad, but I weigh myself every morning and record or just once a week. Because I try to change up how I eat, I like to keep track of what I feel works. I must admit though, it's a little depressing when I have been a model student and drop nothing for three or so days, then excitement to drop a kg and half overnight. Aren't our bodies crazy amazing things! Wow Sue, can't wait for the time when my surgeon says to me that he doesn't want me to lose anymore weight, it just sounds surreal :-) congratulations

I'm a band to sleeve revision, was done in one go and haven't looked back, other than my gallbladder now but it's got nothin to do with the revision. HATED my band HATED it!

Protein Powders Drinks etc Aussies only

Yes, I'm going for my VSG checkup on the 12th and am definitely asking my surgeon if he can help me out in any way. I don't expect charity but if there was somehow that he could perform the surgery, I'd be a lot more confident about it. Do surgeons normally charge more in a private hospital? I am sure I would be able to pay my insurance excess again, just not over gap, which realistically, most surgeons charge way over that. -
LOL Laura, The public system is pretty fast with initial contact here. It's hard to tell how long a wait will be though, I know about 15 years ago I waited almost three years to have my varicose veins stripped, then my son only waited two months to have surgery on his mouth last year, he is special needs though and i think it was pushed forward due to that fact. I've decided I'm just going to be positive, there's no use being miserable, think happy thoughts Jen :-) Besides I might win lotto soon and be able to go private again LOL

Oh Aussie, that's great, I remember how excited I was! You will do fine, just as everyone else told me and its so true, I am so happy to have done this, I just have a gallbladder problem now, wish I would have spoken to my surgeon before my op and he could have taken it out at same time. Not everyone has this problem after surgery but its very common and I do recommend asking your surgeon beforehand. I'm now on a public wait list as I can't really afford another private op so close to the last, but I'm really positive things will work out for me anyway. -

Oh and don't be disappointed if you put on weight in the first week or so after your op, it's pretty standard from what I can gather, and yes, I put on a kilo, I was still on a drip until day before I went home. I really recommend using a tracking program for your protein/water/calories etc although would not worry at all about calorie intake in first few weeks. Most people use "my fitness pal". It's great if you have an iPhone or android as you can use it both on the web and your phone. It really helps you account for what your eating or what you should be and aren't getting enough of. Hope that makes sense :-) -

I had to do pre op diet for two weeks. Lost about 5 kg first week then just 1.5 the second. Had optifast for three meals as well as about a cup of non starchy veggies each day. I guess I was really lucky, I didn't get cravings or anything until maybe three days before my surgery and that was because I went to a Xmas party. I did go off the wagon a little but only to have a little stirfry fish LOL I know I felt great for first two days, then third to fifth I felt like poop. Then after that it was all good. HAd headaches in those yucky two to three days but went away. After surgery I felt really good, little pain in first 24 hours, but nothing the PCA didn't fix! Make sure you make good use of it if you are given one. Get up and walk as soon as possible, I did the day after op and never looked back really, although I was quite tired for up to a few weeks after the fact. Walking really and truly helps with gas pain in your stomach, bowels and shoulders. I spent six nights in hospital, no complications or anything other than gas pain in shoulders, i have very low blood pressure normally and they were a little worried about that, but that's just me normal. I didn't mind staying in one bit, it was really pleasant to have a "holiday" away from my boys :-) and my surgeon wasn't in any hurry for me to go home. You will probably have days where you feel like super woman, trust me, don't overdo it or else your body will definitely let you know, just take or easy and concentrate on getting well. Make sure you get in your water, yes it's a royal pain in the bum, but it's so important. I'm three months out now and if I don't get between 2.5 and 3 litres a day, my body lets me know and boy do I feel it, not nice at all. You'll both do great, where are you and who are your surgeons? -
Thanks again. Dr has put me on a public waiting list for surgery. I am seeing my surgeon on 11th for my checkup so am going to ask for his quote for the job. My GP said to me that I should present at the Hospital or call ambulance if I have other attacks as it may speed up the wait list for public. Maybe my surgeon might give me a "no out of pocket" quote (I could only fantasize about that) Have started eating again and yes steering away from high fat items completely so hopefully this will do the trick. It's funny really, the first time I attempted to "bust out" and have some potato chips and this happens - its a sign, it just makes me more determined that I can make a success of this sleeve.

Hi again, no not taking any medication specific for it. I knew before I had my op that some surgeons choose to remove the gallbladder at same time, but mine never mentioned it, and like most other people it really didn't cross my mind that this might happen. If only we all had hindsight, it would be so wonderful, I'm a little worried as to what may happen now as we really can't afford another private operation at the moment, and being put on a public wait list just raises more questions for me, I guess I'll find out in the morning what the Dr thinks the next course of action should be. Now, I just have to try and not stress too much. Thanks both of you guys for asking and that, I know we probably got off on the wrong foot the other day, I think I felt attacked and mistook what was said, my temper since my surgery has been pretty volatile at times. I just have to remember to try and keep a lid on it :-/

Oh, I've not heard of those. I've settled I think on the ISP whey, although higher protein would be better, I can drink them without gagging. I'd live to try some if the brands they have in the US but even with the ones I can buy here, I'm over paying for something I mightn't like I'm glad you found one you like, let's hope that's still the case after surgery, where you from in Aus? -
Had my USS this morning and it confirms gallstones, so back to GP in morning now. Had another very small attack this arvo that was controlled by the most part with the pills Dr gave me yesterday. Will update again tomorrow

You look much younger, and happier -
I am using unsweetened almond milk for my shakes and low fat milk if I have a cup of tea. On to my second Protein Shake of the day now as I am still scared to eat food at this stage. Went to see Doc and she agrees that it's suspected Gall Bladder problems, am off for a USS in morning and then back to see her so I guess I'll find out pretty quickly what's going in if its all cut and dry. Thanks again so much for your advice and opinion this morning Laura-ven, it's great to know someone is out there when you need help :-)

Hi everyone, Just to let you know, have been to see Doc and she agrees with suspected Gall Bladder problems. I am having a USS in the morning so hopefully will know what's going on in the next few days. I have Buscopan to take in case another attack comes on, just hope it will help a little :-) Am still afraid to eat so am Protein shaking it for as long as I can handle it
-
Does anyone know of I can take buscopan? My surgeon isn't answering and my GP doesn't know
-
Thanks everyone
-
Thank you, I'll let you how I get along after I've been to the Doc this morning Jen

Thanks again, I'll give it a go :-)
