Hello Gentlemen, I'm about 18 months out from VSG and am down 92lbs. I haven't lost any weight in probably 12 months. I also haven't gained any so I'm not complaining. I am very happy with my results. I would love to lose the last 25lb spare tire. It seems like I've tried everything. I eat CLEAN and meticulously measure and log food portions into MyFitnessPal. I'm getting 1,600 calories per day, aiming mostly for 50% Protein / 30% carbs / 20% fat. I usually exercise 30min cardio per week but recently upped this to 60 min/day 6 days/wk, alternating between weights & cardio. I go to these fitness sites and their calculators put me at needing anywhere from 2000-2500 calories/day for weight loss. But I'm at 1,600 and not losing anything - what gives? I've tried eating 2000 calories for a few days and I gained weight. Anyone else run into this? Is 1,600 my sweet spot for the rest of my life? Thanks

Thanks for all the replies. I eat 100g net carbs or less per day, all complex carbs and veggies. I also tend to eat the exact same things every day so I think I'll start with these - lower the carbs and change up my foods a bit. I'm 6' 200lbs and my goal is 170. I'm doing p90x and they estimate it to burn 600 calories/day but I think it's safer to estimate it at 400.

I'm about 4 months out and down 68lbs. My weight loss has slowed wayyyy down. I struggle to drop about a pound a week. If i eat less than 1,000 calories each day I won't lose any weight. I've still got about 40lbs to lose. Does this sound normal? Any tips to get out of it and maybe lose 2-3lbs per week?

i'm 6 weeks out now too and am eating meat. I've found that I really enjoy fish after surgery. I can eat about 3.5oz of it and a little bit of green Beans and I am full. For Snacks I found these 4oz chicken salad packs at costco, cheese stick, yogurt, or a handful of cashews.

I had surgery 4/24 and that was one of my biggest concerns. The surgeon reassured me it was very rare, especially for bariatric surgeries. Here are the things I'm doing to prevent them: -Lovenox shot 1x/day. Dr had no problem prescribing it, even though I wasn't at any increased risk for getting clots -Statin 1x/day. I take this for high cholesterol but found out that they are noticing that statins decrease blood clot risk! -I get up and walk around at least once every 2 hours. I also make sure to walk around the block a few times per day for exercise. -I bought one of the things that blows up your legs while you sleep on ebay. It was used and only $150.

i'm day 4 post op and stayed 1 night in the hospital. I really wished I would have been able to stay a second night. Having the IV, pain pump, and nurses there monitoring around the clock was reassuring. The second day was the worst for me, which was the day that I had to go home.

Sleeved yesterday4/25/14!
huberm replied to Bigmommatojacob's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
i was sleeved thursday, the day before you. The second day was hardest for me as all the gas pain started. They sent me home friday so i spent one night in the hospital. I have little pain now but I'm struggling to get all my fluids in. -
Everyone else do OK yesterday? Fairly little plain at all for me. Today is actually a little worse with all the gas build up. They say I may get to go home today after upper GI and if I can handle clear liquid diet.

Mine is Thursday too. I feel exactly the same way!

Seems like thats how it should be.

Hello, My surgery is next week. I'll be on liquids for a couple weeks afterwards. Can I also count these as my 64oz of fluids needed per day (ie broth, protein shakes, etc)?

Anyone having the sleeve in april?!

April 24th here and very nervous! -
Hello, I am currently in the preop circus jumping through all the insurance hoops. My package was submitted to insurance a couple weeks ago. I had not heard anything back in a while so I called the insurance company and they said they sent a request for more info back via fax and never heard anything from my surgeons office. This mirrors problems I've had with the surgeons office on other things offices have faxed in. To make matters worse, whenever I call the coordinators it goes straight to voice mail. Of course I leave a voicemail but they don't return my call and I have to continuously harass them by calling every day to make sure the problem is taken care of. Is this normal? Feeling like I should just start all over with another center, but that would be really frustrating because I would have to jump through more hoops and pay more money.

Guys any veterans that can give some examples of what they can eat for a meal? Also can you only sip. Really freaking out that I'll only be able to eat a tiny tiny amount for the rest of my life

I haven't yet. I'm waiting on insurance approval, so hopefully just a few more weeks.

Why the negativity around Gastric Plication?
huberm posted a topic in Gastric Plication Surgery Forum
Hello, I was wondering if anyone knows why there are so many negative comments about the plication? It makes it really difficult to make a decision. I hear people mention that the stomach can become necrotic but have only found information about it happening a couple of times. The videos and comments I have seen from doctors online all say the surgery is safe and very promising. Also the peer reviewed research publications I have seen sound like the surgery is safe and effective. I don't want to make people angry just wondering. -

Anyone else as nervous as I am ??! :-) -
I'm planning on arriving the day before, just in case there are flight delays. Don't want it to impact surgery scheduling.

How's the care on the weekends handled? I heard the occ is open a half day Saturday and closed Sunday. I'm getting mine done on a Friday. Will this be a problem? -

my surgery is scheduled for March. Still trying to decide between the sleeve and plication, though. Both are available options. -

That would be really frustrating, I'm so sorry. How much are you able to eat? I heard somewhere that this can happen, and that they can go in and tighten the sutures, giving more restriction. -
Has anyone used Dr Ariel Ortiz and had complications?

whats your plan for complications?

By chance did insurance cover your band problems? -
Hello, I recently tried arranging aftercare with a local bariatric doc for after I have my vsg in Mexico. They flat out refuse to do any aftercare for anyone that had surgeries abroad. I have since heard this is common. My question is, what is everyone else doing for aftercare? My biggest concern is I'll get home and have a big complication. This could bankrupt me if insurance doesn't cover it!
