At the age of 15 I starting putting on weight, from there until I was about 22 My weight would yoyo, I would go between a size 16-20. In 2007 I had my son at the end of that pregnancy I was 285. Ever since then I just keep going up and up on the scale reaching a total of 324. I am a short person with a small bone structure, and all my weight was in my stomach.
In feb of 2012 I made the decision to look into weight lost surgery. I attended a seminar in march. From there I had an appointment with one doctor, dr terrecina at Mary immaculate. immediately I was on the ball about getting the surgery, I completed all the requirement by the end of April and I was told my surgery would be in may. Well one day I received a call from my insurance company stating that they would cover the surgery, and the doctor, but not the hospital the doctor practiced at. From there I called the surgical specialist and she transferred me to maryview, but I had to start all over. I again attended the seminar, made an appointment to see a new doctor. By this time it was June, I received a phone call stating they was not taking anymore patients for the rest of the summer, & I could be seen sept 7. Well sept 6 came and I received another phone call letting me know that 2 doctor was moving to Chesapeake and would no longer be practicing at maryview. From there they transferred me to Dr. Adams who works in Norfolk but would perform the surgery at maryview. From there i was back on the ball with Dr. Adam the end of sept, finished all his requirement by nov. my surgery was dec 19.
Dec 19 I went it at 12 had the surgery about 3:30 and was in my room by 6:30. As I was coming to I was in a lot of pain in my chest. It felt as if something heavy was on top of me. Other than that i didn't have much pain and I was up walking about 4hours after surgery. Occasionally I would get sick when I stood up to much but that was bc if the drugs.
The evening I went home up until today everything has been going just fine.
The only negatives effect I have notice so far is the hunger pains. They say when you have the surgery you won't feel hungry. Well the morning after the surgery was stomach was growling. At 1st I thought it was pain but soon realized those are hunger pains. If I don't eat I do feel very nausea. But it's nice to know it doesn't take much to fill me up!
Even though my surgery was a long processes to get there, I stuck with my decision to have a healthier life. I would recommend the sleeve to other people, So far it has been worth the wait,
