  1. Hi, I recently relocated to Southern California (Laguna Niguel area) from Dallas TX. Dr Ayoola was my surgeon in Texas. I have been looking for a support group in the Laguna Niguel area. Does anyone know of any Bariatric support groups in the area? I had the DS, but support group doesn’t need to be surgery specific.
  2. Thanks Postop, my friends from TX mentioned him. I looked it up yesterday, it really is too far (60+ miles) not to mention Los Angeles traffic. I appreciate the response. Sad, that there isn’t anything closer.
  3. Yes, it is normal as others have said. I had no desire for food and to add insult to my misery...I can no longer do ANY TYPE of artificial sugar after DS surgery. Protein shakes/water ran thru me like a freight train so I had to force feed myself to get my protein in. I started watching the Food Network and similar channels to make myself desire food again and it worked (very small amounts at a time). My DS (gallbladder removal too) surgery was 06/28/17 I’ve lost 126 pounds. Today, I can only get in about seven bites each time I eat so my protein/fat intake must be first. Don’t get me wrong some days I can eat thru a grocery store. You sound like you’re where I was; couple of bites and no appetite. Good luck!

    Hot and Cold Flashes

I had hot flashes in the hospital after surgery. The nurses placed ice packs on my chest/tummy area. I kept the hospital room at 67 degrees (lowest the nurse said it would go) - I was in the hospital for two nights. When I got home I was cold/hot/cold/hot; I took my temperature and blood pressure constantly and emailed the doctor's nurse with my results. No worries for me; surgery was 06/28/2017 and now all I have is cold spells from weight loss. I never received a reason for the hot/cold after surgery other than the 'pain meds' were causing me to run hot.

    Itchy!!!!!!

My incisions itched I would 'scratch' around them and I gently rubbed coconut oil (a dab on my finger) where I 'scratched'. It stopped my itching daily - worked for me.

    Help

Hi, is it gas? Are you taking Gas-X? My 'pain' was 90% due to gas. Check over your paperwork and/or call the doctor about gas pain. (I'm assuming that's what you mean by sore)
  7. So this morning I'm out in the HOT Texas sun. When I got to car I GULPED water - boy did I feel it. Surgery on the 28th -- I cannot gulp water.
  8. My Dr allows mussy foods from days 8 to 28. If the meat can be broken easily with a fork like canned tuna and chicken we can have it. Or cooked fish.
  9. Grinning stops vomiting (don't know where I heard that though.)
  10. My protein comes from canned chicken, soups, deviled eggs, cottage cheese, string cheese
  11. I had revision from sleeve to DS on the 28th. I can drink more than I was able to the days (one ounce) following surgery. I don't gulp. If I try to drink too much (like three swallows/drink) my tummy says, 'have you lost your mind'. I have never had to vomit behind any weight loss surgery. I'm struggling to get my protein in because my body (for the first time) is rejecting all things sugar free - doesn't matter the type...I'm married to the throne.

    Revision

Sounds like you've made the right decision. Congratulations!

    Revision

TDS: Dr Ayoola (Dallas) is fantastic and does revision surgeries. I did not have the RNY but some of his patients have -- give his office a call. It can't hurt to speak with professionals. People from all over the country come to him because he is just that excellent of a surgeon!

    All of my December sleevers...

I workout, but you're right if I went back to a liquid diet (like right after surgery) I could lose 20 pounds a month (with veggies). I have the label reading down to a science, it is amazing how many label readers are out there - when I want to see a label someone before me has already turned the package in the store. Thanks for getting back to me. Continue with your Great Success!

    All of my December sleevers...

What is your secret? You have lost 135 since December 22th? That is amazing! What do your meals consist of?
  18. I'm a slow loser too. I was sleeved 12/28/12 and I've only lost 35 pounds since surgery. Most of that weight loss was in January. I have begun to exercise, a goal of 10,000 steps a day. I track my food and have a fitbit. Like others have said, the scale is going down - some weeks nothing, or .02 ounces, other weeks 3 pounds lost. I put the scale away, I check my weight weekly because I was going nuts. I'm at 800 calories a day and a slow loser, it is unbelievable - at 800 calories a day and exercise (versus what I used to eat and no exercise) I should be 100 pounds. Who would have thought eating 800 calories and exercising meant stalls. I laugh when I'm not frustrated.

    Coffee lovers...

I use both, one day sugar free caramel Macchiato and the next day - ONE teaspoon of cinnamon bun (fully loaded) creamer. But the base is non-fat half and half creamer at 20 calories. Be careful of calories (and some people caution us on carbs too).

    Presbyterian Dallas

My insurance (BCBS) had the same requirement all three are centers of excellence. It might be the surgeons preference. In fact, I had asked that my band surgery be at Baylor Carrollton. The surgeon's office told me it had to be at Baylor Dallas for the same reason you were told. Later I found out Baylor Carrollton had the same 'rating' as Baylor Dallas. When I asked about it after surgery (because I didn't know any better) they said we never said that. Sure they did, but the surgeon was scheduling his surgeries at Baylor Dallas that particular day/week/month. For my sleeve surgery I demanded Baylor Carrollton and got it. Baylor Carrollton and Baylor Dallas were good experiences; however Carrollton was better.

Sorry, no - my band was done at Baylor Dallas on 12/21/10 and my sleeve was done at Baylor Carrollton on 12/28/12. Doesn't Dr Nick use Baylor Plano?
  22. For those times when I'm feeling that way I eat a pickle spear (5 calories) or two. There is something about the salt.

    A few post op questions

I can't respond to the reason you are not allowed Protein for two weeks; I was. Also I was never hungry after surgery - I wonder if that is the lack of protein, again not sure. After surgery, I drank chicken broth, lots of Water (liquids will get your urine moving) got to get your fluids in, I drank warm decaf tea, sugar-free hit chocolate with and without PB2 (just to add variety), cream of chicken Soup. I'm not a beef eater so everything was chicken based. The sharp pain on the left of the belly button, I had/have that too. It itches to this day, I'll ask my doctor on Friday (my surgery was 12/28/12). I thought the uncomfortable (restriction) like feeling was because I had the band removed the same day as the sleeve was done -- I still occasionally get that restriction feeling, not sure why. Unfortunately, I haven't answered your questions - but you're not alone. I've never been sick and I've lost 29 pounds since surgery.
