I thought it might be something like that... I was thinking of the Boot Sales they have in the UK, and wondered if they were sort of the same sort of thing.

Nope, that's not what I had done. Gee I wish I knew where I could get that done. How long does it last, and how much do they run?

Excellent work Candy, I think tickers are wonderful, just not for me, just for now. I know for other people they scream "Yay me!" for me, it just says "FAILURE!!! You can't even do weight loss surgery right!" This is why I don't have one. It just ... accuses me of not being good enough.

    Curves...

I must appologise for my previous post. I know that it fill the needs for so many. I understand this. I'm just really pissy and tired, and having a head ache. This is what I've spent all day doing and it's addled my brain and my good senses. Find the equation of the line tangent to the graph of f(x)=2x^3-5x^2+3x-5 @ x=1 f(1)=2-5+3-5 so the point (1,-5) take the first derivative of f(x) so f`(x)=6x^2-10x+3 so the slope @ x=1 i -1 Equation of the tangent line is y-(-5)=-1(x-1) y=-4-x I know, simple stuff, but I stuggle with it. Again, I appologise for making disparaging remarks about Curves. I lost my bifocals, so I have to use drugstore reading glasses over my eye glasses; there were 2 bugs in my drink and I think thre might have been more and I've been working on calculus for 5 hours today and will probably spend another 3 or 4 hours yet more tonight. MsButterKup, I really and honestly think it is mah-vo-lous that you have found some place to work out that YOU feel comfortable working out at. I know this is totally important for everyone. I frequently forget that most people are not like me and actually do give a rat's ass what other people think of them.

They are owned by a man who activly works against women's reproductive rights. It's political. I can't support companies who activly work against women or our communities.

    Ahh, some relief!

It is possible that you have lost some weight because of dehydration, also, it sounds like your band is too tight. Too tight is worse than too loose because too tight can damage your stomach. And that's bad. If you are still too tight, too tight for solid food and solid protien, you should schedule an unfill. I was too tight my first fill and lost 5 pounds the first week. Half of that was dehydration.

    Body Wraps

Okay, I live in a pokey little town, and here I thought I was all up on the spa things... I had a wonderful spa day once in Calistoga CA .. Oh DEAR GOD! It was the most amazing thing. Part of that was an herbal wrap where I was slathered with hot oil after a massage and wrapped in saran wrap... IS this a wrap? Okay, and now we know your secret Jamie!

Am I doing the right thing?

Oh man Darcey, I know if it was me, I would get the new band. Even with all my whinning and crying, pissing and moaning about how I'm not losing any weight, I would still get a new band. I would just know I was a slow loser.

    Counting Calories??

Thanks Rorysmom, but pedomiters just dont work for/with me. Wildly inaccurate. (one insisted that I only took about 13 steps all day (walking between upper campus and lower campus is a mile each way) and since my legs are really short, 13 steps is wildly out of line. Another listed me at over 8K steps, but since I didn't leave the house.. well, I'm pretty sure I didn't walk a mile inside my house that day. I've tried to put them at my waist, at my hip, attached to the band of my jean, to various pockets... I've cracked the cases, I've snapped the clip of 4 different ones, and I've just flat out lost 2 others. Oh, and 3 just stopped working, probably interference from my personal magentic shere. (My mom can't wear battery powered watches.. she drains the batteries in a matter of days.) Pedomiters just don't work for me. I'm really hard on things, no danty flower here.

    Halloween Traditions

what the hell is a "trunk or treat????" When I was a kid, there was always a big costume contest and prizes were awarded in various age groups. Then we would go out trick or treating with my big sister. One year I went as a hula dancer (I was 4), I was cold but I didn't care. We were frequently gypsies, and that was fun getting to wear my mom's jewlery. We would go all over, way past our neighborhood, blocks and blocks. This was before anyone even thought to do product tampering. (the first cases of poisoned or tampered fruit were evil parents looking to cash in on insurance policies, and not stranger danger. We are in much more danger from people who "love" us than we are from strangers.) We would have popcorn balls that the neighbor ladies would make, bobbing for apples.. carving jack-o-lanterns... When Spudboy was little we would go tricker-treating in our neighborhood and I would walk with him most years so I could go out and see all the wonderful decorations and wonderful costumes. It was always fun to see a grownup dressed with their kids too. No, when kids come to my door, I always make the do a trick. I always announce in a loud enough voice for the parents to hear that I demand a trick! I'll make the kids do a dance if they don't know any tricks. The sad part is that this always stumps the poor kids--it's a rare one that knows how to detatch their thumb or will make a face. Just sad. (The parents always bust up when I make their kids do a trick.) Or sometimes, after they say "tricker-treat!" I'll say Treat, and start digging through their bag... I always give good stuff ... at home I always buy toys and give them a bunch of plactic spiders, clicker bugs, pirate bootey, gooey eyeballs, stuff like that. One year I gave out squishy body parts... noses, fingers, ears... stuff like that. (those went to the older kids) Thank you Orental Trading company!

    Upsetting Breach of Privacy

Yes, I still have some unpainted windows. I only paint my windows in ID, so my windows at home are all still unpainted, expect for the outside in the front which has paint splatters from the last time the house was painted yellow. And that would have been about ... 15-20 years ago. I don't have a ladder that will reach the second story so I can get up there and scrape them. And yes, I'll paint one of your windows, no worries!

Well, that's just it, the scales lie. You can't trust a single one. When I had my fitness assessment done, I was weighed on 3 different scales, and each gave a different weight. There was a 6 pound difference, so I just too the average of the 3 and called it good.

    NSV for my DH

Several months back I posted a thread about my DH, and some of his band journy. I cannot for the life of me find that thread, I searched and searched. Searches only go back to mid-sept, so I'm wondering if the archives didn't get moved along too.... Anyway, My husband has been banded for almost 2 years and has lost almost 200 pounds so far and needs to go at least 100 more. That will put him at 300 pounds. I know, do the math. When he started, he weighted 596 officially. He had a BMI of over 82%, and was Super, Super Obese. That's two stages beyond MO folks. He was so fat he couldn't walk through a doorway, he would have to turn sideways and squees into the room. He took up almost the entire Queen sized bed on his own, I'd be left with just a little bit on the side and I would literally have to sleep hugging the side of the mattress, half on, half off the bed. He was actually in a movie called "Do you Know the Muffin-Man" a "mocumentry" http://www.muffinmanthemovie.com/Intro.htm Here's a shot from the film's website... To give you an idea of how big he is, the woman he's standing next too weighs over 300 pounds ... The O2 tank was just a prop (but at the time this was filmed, I was the one on O2...) When I spoke with him last night, he told me that he was wearing size 3X sweat pants. In this photo he's wearing a size 6X shirt. The pants were custom made, so there is no size available. When he comes to visit me later in the month I'll take some "now" pix for you.

    I Puked On Myself :(

Good old Febreze shoudl help a lot. I've heard of this happening to many bandsters, and typically while we are eating and driving on the run. I could eat kid's sized cheese burgers before my last fill, but I always need to dip them in extra ketchup or mustard or bbq... well you get the pix. I'm on my 4th fill, and here's hoping that a kid's sized CB is too much for me!

    My very first fitness assessment

http://lapbandtalk.com/showthread.php?t=4972&page=1&pp=15 My husband was in a movie called "Muffin Man, the movie" I'll bump the thread for you. It's in the Lounge.
  24. Well, as promised, here is my thread about my experience with my first fitness assessment since I started this journey. I had one done more than 5 years ago as part of my last supervised weight loss attempt. It was an awesome program, btw, and it might be something I do again once I finish with my university. And the only reason why I would do that is because the program was so awesome and I would be working with a trainer for 3 times a week. It would be more the fitness aspect that I'd be working on than the weight loss aspect. But I digress. The fitness assessment is one of the things that my University offers as part of our student wellness program, and costs $10. The entire process took about 40-45 minutes, so it was over pretty fast. The different things they looked at included: my blood pressure weight body fat composition hip & back flexibility resting heart rate biceps strenth aerobic fitness curl-ups partial all combined to give me my total fitness score. The first step (after all the paperwork, of course) was to take my weight, blood pressure and figure out my resting heart rate as well as my target heart rates. We were able to figure out my resting heart rate because I don't own anything with a second hand, and I completely forgot that my cell phone has a stop-watch function. I was on 3 different scales yesterday, and all three had me a three different weights from a low of 240 to a high of 246. (Just more proof that scales lie and decieve us.) The average of the three is 242, so that's what I'm going with. The next step was to calculate my body fat mass to get my fat fee mass (FFM). This was done with two different machines, one utilizing electomagnetic pulses and the other used in infrared light to measure the density of my bicep. The first system, FUTREX-500, used the infrared method and calucated my FFM at 141 so my body fat was 42.5%, while the Tanita scale put me at 130 and a body fat of 45.7%. I'm going with the FUTREX-500 results for a few reasons. The Tanita scale doesn't diferentiate between males and females, and the FUTREX results were the same as my Bell model little mini-body fat analizer. In the long run, it doesn't matter which method I choose to go with, it only matters that I'm consistant. My aerobic fitness level sux. The scale for this fitness component is from 20 (low) to 50 (high), and I scored a 22. But considering how far I had to come in the last year, I'm pretty darn happy actually. I was initally disapointed, considering that I walk so much and am taking a dance class. I was quite surprised that I didn't come in higher, all things considered. My over all fitness level is in the Fair Range, not Needs Work. I have a plan of action, and a fitness plan that I know is workable for me. I don't need to worry about working out 90 minutes a day every day. Right now, that's unrealistic for a couple of reasons, time being one of the main reasons. (19 credits + working = little free time) All I need to do is add 20-40 minutes a couple times a week on the stationary bike.
