  1. Guide to Behavior Change http://www.nhlbi.nih.gov/health/public/heart/obesity/lose_wt/behavior.htm This is from the US Dept of Health and Human Services website, the National Heart, Lung and Blood, and part of the Obesity Education Itiative. Please follow the link for the full article. I highly recommend this article to everyone, and no, you don't have to submit a paragraph or two detailing what you got out of the artile. Over the past few years it has become clear that weight is an important health issue. Being overweight is a risk factor for health problems such as diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and triglycerides, arthritis, gall bladder disease, gynecologic problems, some cancers, and even lung problems. Some people who need to lose weight for their health don't recognize it, while others who don't need to lose weight, want to get thinner for cosmetic reasons. We understand that in some ways your weight is different from, for example, your cholesterol level or your blood pressure, because you can't see what these are by looking at someone. Many patients have had health-care providers who approached their weight in a less-than-sensitive or helpful manner. Some patients may have had health-care encounters in which they felt blamed, but not helped. Please be assured that when we bring up your weight, it's because we know that this is an important aspect of your overall health care. We understand, though, that successful weight management is a long-term challenge. By the same token, we may discuss weight goals that are different from those you select. Weight can affect a person's self-esteem. Excess weight is highly visible and evokes some powerful reactions, however unfairly, from other people and from the people who possess the excess weight. The amount of weight needed to improve your health may be much less than you wish to lose when you consider how you evaluate your weight. If we suggest an initial weight goal that seems too heavy for you, please understand that our major emphasis is on your health and that your health can be greatly improved by a loss of 5-10 percent of your starting weight. That doesn't mean you have to stop there, but it does mean that an initial goal of losing 5-10 percent of your starting weight is both realistic and valuable. Behaviors That Will Help You Lose Weight and Maintain It Set The Right Goals Effective goals are 1) specific; 2) attainable; and 3) forgiving (less than perfect) Nothing Succeeds Like Success Success (But Not With Food) Balance Your (Food) Checkbook Avoid A Chain Reaction You might then try to sever the association of eating with the cue (don't eat while watching television) Get The (Fullness) Message

    Makes NO sense!!

*snort* hello? *tap*tap*tap* is this thing on? Heh, my entire journy with the band hasn't made much sense! I stick to a 1200 regeme and don't lose, and I up to 1600 calories one day and then I drop a few pounds.

    Slow Losers - Unite!

sorry John, you are definately a Rabbit! You've lost over 100 pounds so there is no way you qualify for Turtle status! Hurrah! I did start a thread called "Winded Wabbits" specifically for you Rabbits who've slowed down and are perhaps on an extended plateau. There's been a lot of interest shown by Rabbits who would like to join our Turtle Tribe. I figured that I would start that thread so that all y'all could specifically discuss your specific issues, issues that we of the Turtle Tribe just cannot relate to. (not that we don't want to relate to them, it's just that our reality is different from yours) In the last 2 and a half months, you have lost what it took me 7 months to lose so there is no way you are a Turtle (Yay! for you!)

What is wrong with me.....I am crazy

I dunno, I really like to go grocery shopping. I've been thinking about this topic since you posted yesterday. Part of it is that it is very comforting to be surrounded by food. I don't have to eat any of it, but just knowing it is there gives me a feeling of safety. Not comforting I guess so much as reasuring. I am sure part of that stems from my circus freak childhood. My dad would never buy groceries because we "were just going to eat it anyway." Which, correct me if I'm wrong, but isn't that the whole point of groceries??? There is also the phenomina of what I call "possibilities" when I go grocery shopping. All those different ingreedients, all those different possible combinations of creating new and exciting meals. I have a food hording thing. I'm getting better, but it is still there.

    A reverse PB

Look, I had a cookie, you had 3 pieces of halloween candy and Jacqui had some chips. Not a bag of cookes, not a bag of candy and probably not a whole giant bag of chips either. I think instead of smacking you, I shall give you a medal. For a job well done! Welcome to being a human!

    Drum Roll please!

well, among other things, a firkin a British unit of capacity used especially in the brewing industry, equal to nine U.K. gallons, a small wooden tub, and a measurement for butter and soap, much like carrats are measurments of gem stones. I'm just sort of feeling lately like the way we weigh is so arbritrary, I figured that I would seek out new and interesting ways to track my weight. Last week I went with atomic weight, this week it's firkins, who knows what I'll choose next??? Heck, I don't even know As for fitday, well, even at my goal I'll still be severely overweight, so who cares what they say anyway! My Spudboy will be out next week and my DH will be here the following weekend! WooT!

    Getting Two Teeth Pulled

Pneumonia! No wonder I felt so bad...

Pamela, that will explain it all right. since I've been banded, I almost never ever use my puffer. This is really significant because before banding I was getting nebulizer treatments several times a week.

Not the dreaded "Blarg!" No! not that! One of the things to keep in mind with these types of scales that use electrical impeedence is that your hydration level is very, very important. I can't account for the apperent weight gain

    Genetic obesity

well I think some behaviors are genetic. My older brother never met his biologicical father, but my mother says his manerisms are the same. Our own DeLovely DeLarla discovered that she has the same exact manerisms as her father, whom she's only recently met. Also, modern humans have evolved with this ability to store fat to stave off starvation during famine, flood and winters.

Where have you BEEN all my life?

I'm glad you found us too. I suppose I have no shame I haven't been ashamed of my body in a long, long time. I mean, a really long time. I'm not embarased by my size, as a general rule. Don't get me wrong, I've felt like my weight has held me back, like it is the one thing in my life I'm a failure-- I've managed to so some remarkable things, but I could never over come my weight.

    Saggy breasts

There are a few different types of breast reduction surgeries, and from what I understand it has to do with the N2N ("notch to nipple" with the notch being the hollow of your collar bone) ratio. One they remove the nipple and plop it onto the new proper place, while the other does a keyhole sort of cut. I'm definately going to have a reduction, but I currently have massive breasts and have had since I was in my 20's. I'm not going to the the "pop the nipple off" even if that means I won't be perky. I just want to be something small, like a D cup. I'm also going to have a tummy tuck. I don't think I"ll have a massive pani, but I do have a small one and I get terrible rashes that bleed at times. It's no fun.

    Genetic obesity

I have a blurry pix of my Great-Grandmother, my dad's dad's mother. I am built exactly like her! I'm mostly built like my mother, except sh'e a B cup and I'm atleast a G cup, but apple body type to the core. (a large apple has about 110 calories) Two of my mom's aunts were MO while her mother and other aunt were not. Both of my Dad's sisters are MO, one batch of cousins is MO, one batch of nieces are MO & technically obese. My son is obese and his father was always on the "fat boy" program in the Navy. (maybe it's spelled "fat buoy"?) And of course, my DH is Super obese, and his sisters and father are all MO, while his mom is merely obese. Most of his relatives are at least Obese as well. My family are all very ... dense. We have more muscle mass than most people, especially for women.

First fill took less than 10 minutes!

Jessie really is amazing when it comes to giving fills. Do a crunch and viola` you're done! I felt really silly after getting my first fill. I'd worked myself into such a state that I was crying so hard my ears were filled with tears. So anti-cimactic! Now I'm getting my fills done by an interventional radiologist here in ID, and man is it ever a huge production number! Instead of 10 minutes including drinking Water at home vs an hour production.

    Slow Loser Pics

There is a 30 pound difference in those pictures. I lost 10 pounds before I was banded, water weight.

I didn't even realize where my band was?

My port if very obviously a port, no pain though. I think I feel my band at night, at least the last few night after getting this last fill. No pain though

    wardrobe malfunction!

As y'all know, I'm taking horseback riding for my PE class this semester. I am still really unsure of myself around these big beasts, but I'm getting better. Yesterday, I had a wardrobe malfunction! When I dismounting one of the horses, my bra got caught on the pommel an I was stuck! I'm standing on the tippy toes of my new cowboy boots because the horse is tall, I am not, and I'm trapped by my bra! Trust me, there is no way this bra is going to easily come loose or break, because they are made to hold me up! (Let's just say, I think a DD cup is really small...) Luckily, two of the women in my class came to my rescue. My shirt ended up almost coming off in the process! It was really funny, to tell the truth. So, anyone else have a wardrobe malfunction to share?

    Totally Trippy Site

too creepy for me, and not in a good way. Maybe I'd feel better if it was a rag doll instead of a realistic woman. And there's a ground?
