will band help-i eat when full

One other thing to think about, besides what Capt'n Jack has so eloquently written, is that you might have a food sensitivity. Corn and corn products make me ravenously hungry, to the point where I want to eat everything in the apartment, then go bang on the neigbor's doors so I can eat all their food too. Oh seriously, corn turns me into a shark like feeding frenzy. So, I avoid corn. If I know I'm going to be eating it, I plan for it, and make sure I have protien and fat ready to go. (Protien and fat stay in your blood stream longer than carbs.) And yes, banding will physically stop you from over eating most of the time. It is still possible to "eat around the band." Soft foods, especially ice cream go right through the band.
  2. 5 weeks is well within the time frame. Don't worry! You'll be just fine. 6 - 8 weeks is typically when the first fill happens, not solid food. And you might gain back a little weight. But don't worry there either. It isn't at all uncommon to gain back a few pounds during this time. But the good news is that after you are properly adjusted, I don't think you will ever feel like you are "starving" again.

    Hi new here.

Hi Daisymomma Well, the fills are because the band's full name is the Adjustable Lap Band. The fills are there because everyone is different. Sometimes people need more, sometimes they need less. Many people need a tighter fill as they lose more weight, to maintain the same amount of restriction. I'm in SE ID, but I don't know where Utah County is.

    Goodbye, Mr. Whipple

I'm so sorry Whip, I am anticipating this very thing. I know that when i get home for the holidays I'll have to put my own beloved Astro down. I cannot pretend to understand your pain, but I know what mine is like.

    San Fransico or Bust.....

I fly fairly regularly, and I don't notice any difference with restriction. When my DH comes to visit me, he drives but the altitude (4500 feet) affects his band.

I have been sick, sick, sick!!!

In the nearly year that I've been here at LBT, I've never heard of anyone having an issue with their Spleen! That's definately a new one on me. As someone who's had more than her fair share of lung issues, I just wanted to let you know that my band has just about taken care of my asthma completely. Last year at this time I was fighting for a breath, hospitalized and on oxygen therapy. Just to give you some hope. I'm sorry you are having such a rough go of it!

i'm never eating in public again!

Oh, with this fill, i don't dare eat anything in public. If it isn't a PB it is the most amazing noises! belching and gurgling and weird squeeky noises... No, I try to avoid eating with anyone these days.

Uhm, no, I suspect it's becaue it's a university... I'm finding that my university is totally sucky when it comes to organizational expertise.

new here & got a question

It all depends on your surgeon and your insurance. Typically it is 100 pounds over "ideal" weight, whatever that means. It is usually based on your BMI, and your co-morbidities, if any.

are sit-ups okay after lap band surgery

I was back to doing my crunches 2 weeks after my banding
  21. I've been at less than 700 calories for two weeks now, and I'm having some issues with this. I can only seem to manage to eat a couple of tablespoons of food at a time before I'm in danger of PBing. I'm hungry but not hungry. I didn't have any similar issues with my food when I was at 1000 calories. I didn't have much in the way of head hunger issues. I know everyone has their own threshold, but how does anyone else tell the difference between head hunger and real body hunger?

    Clothing NSV

Woot! Excellent, but now I have the ZZTop Zipper song playing in my head... I don't even have all the words, dang, now I'll have to find the song Congrats!
  23. Thanks Megan! Very interesting article. "There is a catch to this no-diet diet, however: Intuitive eaters only eat when they're hungry and stop when they're full." I think the problem for many of us is that before being banded, we had no idea what "full" felt like (as opposed to stuffed to the gills.) Perceptions are interesting. He felt that 210 was "fat." Of course, I have no way of knowing what his body type is or what his frame is like, but in my family type that is not fat. My ex-coke-head brothers weigh more than that, and they look gaunt. Anyway, I keep stuff like that in my house, and I've had to throw away chocolate bars because they got dusty. But I'm not a binger, never have been one. I know other people would find the temptation too great, especially if they don't have their heads "banded" as well.

    head hunger or body hunger?

Heh heh heh heh heh. I started a thread a while ago in the fill forum, entitled, "considering insanity." Yeah, the whole point of this is to check for a leak. They don't want me to have anyone else messing with my fill level right now but them precisely to rule out a leak. And oh yes, I am way too tight. But I'm sort of stuck until I can get home in a couple of weeks. I have 4 or 5 "meals" now, Snacks really. I DO NOT want to get in the habbit of grazing because I've been too tight. I do not want to fall into the trap of soft foods either. But I've lost two entire pounds for the month, not like the typical one pound for the month. I know that other people are very successful at this level of caloiric intake, but I'm just dragging my ass. But I am really interested in how poeple figure out how they can tell the difference between head and body hunger. You guys are the best!

Okay, Kare, I lost a grand total of 2 pounds in the last 4 weeks. I suck.
