Going to work 2 days after surgery?
vinesqueen replied to skbishop78's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
ROFLOL! I think, even as one of the ones that went shopping the next day, going to back to work would have been a bit much. I was very tired, and slept a lot after surgery. I was out the full week, and I needed it. If you need more days, you need more days, and too bad for your boss. This is a MAJOR surgery, not having a wart burned off. -
banded 3/14/05 Dr. Watkins NWWLS Kirkland WA no band problems.

Uhm, well you could be a Turtle. You have to be prepaired for the possibliity that you will only lose 15- 20 pounds by then. You might do everthing "right" and still not lose. There are no garentees with the band. But, if you end up being a typical banster, and not a turtle, you could very easily lose 40 pounds by then. If you don't think that's a lot, go pick up 40 pound of something and lug it about for a while. Please try to understand the bigger pix of this journey, that you life will be changed, that there will be so many wonderful things happen because you've decided to take this road. Don't get hung up on a number.

Keri, I don't know what to tell you. It might be worth a look to check back and examine old pix of yourself at various weights, if you can remember what you weighed when. I know that you are rapidly losing weight, so the changes for you are probably dramatic. Maybe if you look at your before and now pix it will help you see where you are going, based on where you've been. You are probably discovering new features, like suddenly the contours of your face are different, that your nose or chin have more definition. Maybe you need to spend some time examinine pictures of yourself with a loving but critical eye, noting the detail and definitions, becomeing every more familiier with your new face. And by critical, I don't mean "if you did this better" but more in keeping with the definition of critical in the art critic sense, in a detached sense.

I normally use Firefox but I haven't had any troubles getting pages. Doesn't seem to be any difference for me in IE or Firefox.

Hey Cindy, I agree with Kare <3 Bear. But if you cannot get in your thyroid meds in the morning, you are too tight. If you are having difficulty getting in your Water, you are too tight. If you are having trouble eating 1/2 a piece of chicken, you are too tight. It might be that your calories are just too damn low. I know when I spent a month too restricted that it really affected my mood and my energy level.

okay, I'm finally home from school and work. *sigh* what a day, what a day. The good news is that the inital results from the tests are good, but this means that there are more tests to run. In the mean time she's going to treat my PCOS agressively, trying to deal with the underlying problem and not just give me birth control pills. She also gave me some anti-anxity pills. Apperently being stressed about not losing weight is not going to help me lose weight. Go figure. So, we still don't know what the matter is. I still need more tests. I'm on new meds.

What food have you sworn off for good??
vinesqueen replied to Kathy473's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Okra. I've sworn off okra. Oh, and raw quince. Okay, it wasn't hard, not even a little bit. Of course, I swore them off way before I got banded. And there's the little matter of quince being completely in-edible raw... okra is just .... ick. -
((((hugs)))) Oh Mary, I'm so sorry. It is just terrible that you MIL can't let go. Something sick about that. It's never easy, but you are strong, and you have all of us, those that post and all that lurk.
-
of course, when you cocker spaniel/poodle mix leaves dog bombs in the back yard, yup, you guessed it.... Cocker-poodle doo

Bumping because it's relevant to some recent conversations

Okay Kryssa, you had 10 bite sized candies. That's equal to what? 1 entire candy bar? But the good news is that you stopped at 10. You didn't eat the entire bag. I eat candy. I never beat myself up for eating stuff that isn't on the list. I still eat ice cream, chips, and stuff. I can even eat pizza. But when I have pizza I will eat 1/2 an individule pizza, not 1/2 a large pizza and the last time I had ice cream, I bought a pint of Ben and Jerry's Marsha Marsha Marshmellow. I had 6 servings out of that pint. SIX. One of the points of the band is to teach us moderation. Not denial. The band is an alternative lifestyle.

Okay, I didn't read the thread, since I don't tend to look at the hospital or doctor threads, which is where I assume this was. Rest asured, that if you leave LBT, I will personally go to your house and drag you back here kicking and screaming.

Well, this is just the first round of test, and there are many more tests to go through. I still could have Cushing's, and there are a whole host of test that they do. If the first group of test come back negative or inconclusive they do more. Thank you everyone, your continued support means so much for me.

What she said! LOL! I think that's the hot tub, not a rain barrel.

I think the next step is to find an endocrinologist. I don't know what the answer is, ultimately, I just know that something isn't right
-
One other thing... It occurs to me that our Turtle-ness is quite possibly a symptom of some other medical condition. I would hate for a bandster to convert to a malabortive technique only to discover that if their condition was treatable, and with treatment they will lose weight.

Not Doing Very Well With My Food and Feeling Very Alone : - (
vinesqueen replied to migbt's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
you might find that there is no local group, but that LBT is a wonderful support group. We have so much differnt needs than RNY folks, and folks tend to get a little defensive over their choice of WLS. -
Again, I'm suggesting that all Turtles go in for metabolic testing. It doesn't make sense that we drastically cut our caloric intake, yet loose nothing. Make an apointment and demand answers.

You wanna know what really pisses me off about the whole situation?????????
vinesqueen replied to buck100's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
hey, perhaps your econ degree helps you understand this all the better. Understand the social costs, the intangible costs that cannot be quantified in dollars and cents easily. Or perhaps you can quantify them because you understand the value of the intangible. -
I can't believe it's been a year...
vinesqueen replied to Jonathan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Congrats Jonathan! Okay, I made this new rule, once you hit a Bandiversary, you have to list your top 10 NSV. -
Geezer is UNbanded, switched and camping...
