    Update: Future Bandster In Saudi

Oh Kabeerah! I'm so sorry about your toe, that's gotta hurt! Yowie-ouch! (((hugs))) And yes, that being confined to your house can really add to a depression. I want you to seriously think about getting checked for diabetis, it's very serious, and the complications can litterally kill you if you are not careful! I too would go with the doc that's done 90 over the one that's done 3. It just makes sense that way. I'll keep you in my thoughts hoping you have a good consult with the doc, and it would be wonderful if you could be banded in a few weeks as opposed to months!
  3. Welcome to Bandlandia everyone!

    Happy Birthday Road Queen

May the cities in your wake burn like candles on your cake! Happy birthday!
  5. Just because we can do something doesn't mean that we should do something. It would be a very bad idea to drive yourself home after any sort of surgery. BAD IDEA! This would violate two of my guiding principles in life: Never borrow trouble, and God never told you to do anything stupid. You would probably be sited for driving while impaired, plus you would realy be in no condition to drive. If you were close, I'd come and get you. We care.

Affects of Flying with Lap Band?

Well, when I fly I'm definately tighter. When my DH comes to visit me in Pocatello, he gets SUPER tight. Seattle is basically sea level, while Pocatello is more that 4,000 feet in elevation. Some folks find their band becomes an instant baromiter, while other people don't notice any change with the weather. I don't care what the literature says, if you experience it, then you experience it.

Bups is getting her ba-and! Bups is getting her ba-and!
  9. Well, tomorrow I see the Endo for my Cushing's. I've researched it as much as I can, have driven myself crazy and am generally a basket case, even more than I usually am.:faint: I'm sitting here in the Boise Airport with my laptop batteries almost dead, so I thought I'd better get this out before the silly thing goes to sleep. (in my infinate wisdome I packed the power cord in the checked bag... DOH!) So, I really don't expect any answers tomorrow, only new questions. But I'm going to keep pushing this until I get the real answers and questions. I don't think I'll be able to check in with all y'all until tomorrow afternoon, but I really do need all the extra prayers, white lights, love and hugs I can get right now. I've decided that I need to take a medical leave from school until I get some answers, so I'm stressed about that. I don't know how that is going to affect my scholarship. *sigh*:omg: And to top it off, I still am not telling my mother about this. I didn't want her to have to come up with something to top the Cushing's, but she managed to all on her own. They are pretty sure that she has pancriatic cancer. She didn't tell me, my dear sister with the big blabber mouth told me. (love her!) So now I'm not telling my mother because she doesn't need to worry about me. I suppose I'll have to tell her eventually, but not now. Think I could sell my story to hollywood to be the next science fiction story? It sure would be rejected for being too farfetched.... So anyway, my battery is gone, so I'd better hit send.

Candy, go to your regular doc and request in the strongest terms a work up. Don't go back to that same endo, find a different one.

    Fun thread: bonehead docs

What is the most bonehead thing a doc has ever told you? Something that at the time might have been insensitive, hurtful or downright clueless, but now it's funny.... Another thread got me thinking about this, and I remembered what the cardiologist told my husband, asked him if he'd considered just cutting out sweets, since WLS was pretty extreme... When I had a collapsed lung, the Pulmo said the diagnosis was that I was fat. At the time, I was as furious as I could manage, but now it's terribly funny.

    LAP band to bypass....?

My clinic does revision from RNY to add the band. They know that this works for some folks. I have found my surgeons very compassionate and caring. Some folks do very well with their RNY, it is all about learning to lead a new lifestyle. I really think successful long term results come from lifestyle changes, and of course many RNY folks will learn the new lifestyle. I just worry about people who've been banded who don't lose like they should, not because of a band failure, but because they have metabolic issues. I know that lots of people are not as patient as I am and would have converted to something else by now. I know in my heart of hearts that if I'd converted to a malabsortive technique that I still wouldn't be losing any weight.

I see the Endo tomorrow-- send love!

Hey Paula! No, I don't think he was that much more interested. But all I had to really do was get him to order the tests. My aunt the doctor thinks I should have just gone right to the UW medical center, but they wouldn't look at me without test results. So, I'm getting the tests, so tht's a good thing! When I had the first collapsed lung, the one doc told me that they were talking bets to see what it would turn out to be. Women rarely get spontainious colapsing lungs, usually a young male athelete thing. The last pulmo I saw diaganosed me as being fat. Yup, that was the diagnosis for the colapsed lung, I was just fat. (250 pounds) So sorry about your dad. Yeah, it's really tough when they don't know what to do. Rarely do they actually tell you that they don't know, but instead to appear infalable, they fluster and bluster. I know it's gonna be a long battle. I'm not happy about that. Im impatient and I want an answer RIGHT NOW!!!! but I"m not going to get it right now, I'll just have to practice the art of restraint and patience.

    Embarassing Gas syptoms

You think unbanded people dont' occasionally fart when having sex??? Part of it depends on the position you are in. And trust me, when things are hot and heavy, I don't think anyone is going to get up and leave because someone went "poot" "oh oh Oh Oh! OH! OH! MY! what was that? I'm leaving. ... " Never happens. The only time I felt like I didn't have enough energy was when I was at around 700 calories for weeks

HELP HELP HELP!!!! Feeling like I'm choking

Hi Jessen, welcome to LBT and Bandlandia! Even though you were banded in Jan, it sounds like you sill have some swelling. Some of our bandsters don't need a fill for months after their band is installed. Capt'n Jack is one, as was my DH. Getting used to the new way of eating can be very difficult for many baby bandsters. So many of us are used to taking great huge bites, chewing just to be polite, and then swallowing the thing whole. Meal done, 5 minutes start to finish! Bing! Off to the races! But once we are banded we can't livethat way wany more. We have to become mindful and practice not only moderation but restraint as well. And that can be more difficult than it sounds. I'm still working on moderation and restraint a year later. It sounds like you have a variation of the "first bite syndrome" and you might find it helpful to have a warm beverage before dinner, a cup of hot herb tea or the like. Other people find that if they eat when they are really hungry that this happens to them. For me, if I wait to eat until I'm really hungry, BAMB!!!!It's gonna hurt no matter how small the bite. I think we have a thread in the food section about favorite food lubes, you might search there for favorite food lubes (lubricants to help the food slide down easier.)

    Surgery Soon, Need Support

Okay, Tough love, Vines style. (ooooh that aughta scare anyone.) Everyone is different, but what makes you think you are so special the band won't work for you? Bubs baby, your asthma right now isn't as bad as mine was before my surgery. I know this because you haven't been hauled off to the ER days before your surgery, and you haven't said you are on daily nebulizer treatments. You didn't spend a couple of weeks in hospital over the Christmas break because you couldn't breathe either, RIGHT????? All I can tell you, which probably isn't going to make a damn bit of difference is that my asthma is all but cured after being banded. I went from using an inhaler every 3 weeks to taking acouple of puffs a month. My biggest NSV is that I didn't die from resperatory failure, and you know what? Based on other asthmatic bandsters here, I really believe that your asthma will get that much better too. I know you don't believe me, but it is what I believe. As for your fybromailagia, mine has gotten dramatically better too. I have very few flare days, so much so that when one hits, that I cannot believe I spent so much time like that, that a flare was normal instead of a flare. When you don't feel crappy all the time it is amazing to realize how crappy you felt before. So, that's tough love Vines style. Now, here's a hug, and a cup of herb tea and a tissue. Sorry to be so hard on you.

    Parenting w/two sets of kids

I am in somewhat of a different situation--my husband is always teasing me about my "neighborhood strays" and my son is teasing me about my newest stray, my first daughter. I've treated all the kids in my life the same way, like they are my own children. That means that I set clear house rules, that I treat them all with dignity and respect and cherish all of them. I make sure that I have "alone time" with each of my kid so I can concentrate on just them. It might be going out for an ice cream, or a movie, it might be a trip to the art/craft store to make sure they have enough supplies like pens, pencils or paints and paper. It doesn't matter if they are 5 or 17, I try to make sure they are all taken care of. I know all my strays have loving parents of their own, some of them just have crazy work hours, some of them are students. I'm good friends with some of my kids and other of my kids I just know in passing. But they all know how much I care for their kids. Blending families is as much art as it is science. I think continuing counceling is a good idea. For your new daughter, schedule time at the local beauty school for manacures or pedicures or things like that together. Personally I think that this will teach her that it is ok to pamper herself and others, even on a budget. (I like going to beauty schools because I know that I'm helping the students get time to practice on a paying customer who isn't going to be super critical) One of the things I do with my older kids is really listen to thier music. Music is so important for many kids, and I think that when adults make an effort to simply listen to them it has a big impact. I would ask that your husband spend "alone time" with each of your boys too. Going off and doing some manly thing is important. Share your interestes with your new kids. Be sincerely interested in their interests as well.

Start of Biggest Loser - Weigh In

I think these women were all chosen because their husbands are serving together and not just serving. I don't know how many of you have past military experince, but there is a bond that forms when your spouses are serving in the same group, espicaly for the Navy. (I can only speak to Navy experience, since Army wives are whiny  ) I think it was the tall blond Navy wife that had the WLS; the Navy is in blue obviously.
