Hello Turtles, my dear sweet Turtles. I just wanted to do a quick role call because I feel like I'm missing some of my Tribe. I know that I'm feeling very discouraged, and I am sure that other turtles are as well. What with the holiday's being over, and the January doledrums setting in. I know that we can get through this together. I just know it.

Feeling hopeless and like a failure
vinesqueen replied to rpaniagua77's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Since you have lost 40 pounds in 22 weeks, you are ahead of the game. Excellent work! What were you expecting to lose? -
It looks like Kelly's deleted almost all the threads she's started.
-
I didn't say it was Delarla who'd done it, it's just that when you delete a thread, or portions of threads, it's called "pulling a Delarla." :bandit Speaking of Delarla, you need to send me pix of your house so I can figure out what colors. Also, what sort of mood are you looking for, what atmosphere? My kitchen and living room are deep green because it is very relaxing for me. The room that was my craft room and now my bedroom is yellows and gold. (no direct sunlight) What are you looking for?

Oh, this is to be expected! Your diaphram is likely bruised, and many bandsters report this sensation. I'm not even going to call it a complication. You organs are not designed to have someone messing with them, so they are still trying to figure out what happened. You've just had major surgery, you now have a medical implant, so part of the issue is that your body is still in the WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DO TO ME?????? mode. Be kind to yourself, you are doing fine. Welcome to the Banded Gentry.
-
Hi Kara, the majority of the folks who've had their band removed had serious complications. This wasn't anything that they wanted to do, but it was medically necessary.

We have the ability to be as skinny as we want????
vinesqueen replied to Fauxnaif's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Heather's right, this isn't about not being able to lose "excess weight" but having realistic ideals and goals. Unless there are underlying medical conditions, I think that we have very good reason to expect to get to our personal real size. Most people do not take into account their fat free mass FFM, which has probably the biggest impact on what we can effectively weigh. We get hung up on BMI charts, which are only guidelines. For instance, my FFM is 140 pounds. That is what I weight without an ounce of fat on my body. At a good body fat percentage of %25-30% I will still be considered "obese." But that body fat percentage is right where I should be. This is why I worry about NewSho. Her BMI is "stuck" at 30%, but I don't know what her FFM is. It could be that she is at a good body fat percentage. I just really worry about you Sho! (((((hugs))))) -
We have the ability to be as skinny as we want????
vinesqueen replied to Fauxnaif's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well Capt'n Jack, at least you didn't get down to 98#s.... Thanks for posting this Fauxnaif! I have known so many big folk who have decided that they are going to get to size tiny, and they won't be happy unless and until they reach that size tiny. And this is from people who are simply incapapble of being tiny. One woman wanted to be a size 6, and she wouldn't be happy until she made it there. But honey, there was no way in hell she was gonna get there... she was built like me, strong, with broad shoulders, but closer to 6' than not. Oh, and if you end up as a Turtle, or worse, like me.... well, you ain't gonna lose very fast, to put it mildly -

this is one of my new favorite sites: http://www.nutritiondata.com/index.html -
I'll be finished with the testing round noon, or so I'm told, so that would be a great time. More details to follow! As a coming home gift, I was given a half pound of Rwanda Blue Bourbon coffee...

In my ongoing series on differnt types excersize as part of a healthy lifestyle, today we are going to explore gardening. These are the reasons why gardening and yard work is the best excersize: No gym fees the guys/chicks think you are hot you build endurance you engage in strength training when you prune your laural hedge of doom, or shlep bags of soil or compost you get to learn about botany you become an expert in insects, what are benificial, and what are harmful you get to increase the property value of your home and neighborhood fresh cut flowers whenever you want them you get plenty of sun and Vitamin D you get to make mud pies you get to create many things of beauty and serenity croquett in the summer fun yard ornaments and toys cool tools, so you too will own and know the best use for at least 3 different types of hoes, shovels and picks, as well as a variety of power and electric tools You get to own a pitch fork, just in case.

Happy Easter, how did you do with food and candy???
vinesqueen replied to MiaHalliwell's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I did just fine. I had 1 small slice of ham, about 1/4 cup of the most yummy potatoes ever, and a nice green salad with fresh oranges. Desert was a small peice of devine lemon mirange pie. I had one chocolate egg, about the size of a jelly bean. I was hoping it was one of the malted milk kind, but no luck. But then again, the band isn't a diet, it is a lifestyle. -
One week post op and sooo tired
vinesqueen replied to waterlily1072's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Molly, I don't think it is lack of food, but the trama of surgery you just went through. I was absolutely whiped out for about a week and a half, and then my energy started to come back. Don't worry, this is absolutely normal. Congrats on your band! -
Horseback riding question?????
vinesqueen replied to housecatgirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Hi Laura, I took an 8 week western riding class 2 weeks after I was banded. The only problem I had was picking their feet. Oh, well the other problem I had was when I was dismounting once and ended up getting the front of my bra hung up on the saddle horn, but since you ride English, this shouldn't be a problem. My surgeon was very amused when I asked if there was going to be any problmes with me riding. -
Halla and Kabeerah, would you please share some recipies, oh please?! I love food, which is one of the reasons I'm fat, but I love recipies too, and love just reading cook books. Halla, while I was in Idaho, my only support was LBT. I had no access to physical meetings, and I found that being active here on the boards was just as good as a physical meeting for me. Congrats on your banding Halla

WEIGHT LOSS UPDATE: I've lost my four-year old son!!
vinesqueen replied to Cheri's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yeah, you need to change your title! I'm very happy to hear about the weight loss. Congrats on that. -
It just occured to me that we don't have any set place to discuss excersize and physical activity. I'm never sure where to start these things. So, This is where I'm putting this thread! Ha! so THERE! This is why belly dancing is the BEST excersize: What other excersize program involves making sure you have bells and beads and beautiful silks and chifons and beaded belts and bras and jewlery, and SHINY thing! There are no men, except for sometimes drummers, but they are there for *you and your pleasure* not the otherway around. What other excersize actually looks better when fat women do it than skinny bitches attempt it? What other excersize celebrates the female form in all the many forms we have? Exotic and interesting music! what other excersize helps you internalize how damn sexy and alluring you really are?

doh! forgot the pix! (could someone pretty please resize it!) ((Thanks K@t!)

I don't know where Pat lives, but up at my Mom's place on Whidbey Island they have lots of bald eagles. Not so fun when they decide to make a meal out of your beloved kitty or small dog. I lost one of my cats to the circle of life....:faint:

You look great Mandy! Congrats on all your hard work! -
Yup that's my rate of loss for the last year. 4 ounces a month.... sigh TURTLES! OLLY OLLY OXEN! FREE! FREE! FREE! Where is everyone?
-
Oh Miki, I'm so sorry for your loss. You are currently going through some of the most difficult life experiences humans go through. Please, please, please don't be so hard on yourself. Right now, maybe it is a time for maintaining, as opposed to losing. And that's the great thing about the band, it will be there ready when you are. Shawn gave you the advice I was going to give you about food. ((((((((hugs))))))))
-
Oh yes, dear K@t, I was a major basket case before my banding. I think if you aren't nervous, you aren't really human. (((((((k@t))))))))
