How do you feel about kids banded?

How does the band help any of us? There are plenty of us here who are MO inspite our parents best intentions. Or perhaps despite their intentions.

    Food Journal Thread

Yesterday was my first full day of mushies. Breakfast: coffee before I had my food leftover ground lamb dish made with onions, garlic, herbs in a tomato base with fat free sour cream blended to the consistancy of pate lunch, an omelet du framage (say it with your best Dexter voice, and that is just about the extent of my French...) with carmalized onions, fat free sour cream and ketchup Dinner: home made chili con carne (no beans) (I'm out of cumin, but it was really good anyway) with fat free sour cream to cut the heat. snacks: 1 cup of canberry juice, 1 cup of milk.

    Jenna's powerball winnings!

Nope, not deleting the post. I changed the title of the post and explained how you tricked us all, you very bad lady. This is a thread for dreams, and it is wrong to delete dreams!

How do you feel about kids banded?

My son is very close to my starting weight of 270. Child abuse? Neglect? No way. But if my son doesn't want to do something, there is no force on the face of this earth that will make him do what he doesn't want to do. He's even more stubborn than me! People in my family are very dense (in more way than one I suppose.) Drop us in a pool of Water and we sink like a stone. Yes, he is over weight, but he's built like a football player. (good thing, since he played football until he transfered to his new school. My son is very strong--he leg presses something like 1200 pounds and lifts over 400 pounds. When I was an athlete I weighed 190 pounds. I was doing serious work outs--4-5 hours a day 5 days a week, and I could bench press 300 pounds. I was also a size 12 and I thought I was fat because the scales said I was fat. I know that many people have posted their experiences where they would eat all the food they could get their hands on, eating a dozen candy bars in a sitting, and other secret eating. I don't know that there is anyway parents can stop this sort of behavior on their own. When I was in high school we had to walk a mile to the bus stop. I think this was probably good for me. I think that our schools need to have better PE programs, with interesting programs. (Gawd how I hated that full semester of field hocky!)

    Chocolate for dinner? Yep.

Paula, I thought that chocolate was a daily requirement! All those wonderful anti-oxidants! What? What? Do you mean that Peanut Butter M&Ms aren't better??? surely you jest! My choclate bar is calling my name again. So I'll take it out of the fridge, look at it, admire the wrapping and put it back in the fridge.... (yes, this is the same chocolate bar that's been calling my name since Sept.) Good think it isn't made of ice cream! Resistance is futile! All my base belong to ice cream...

    Kathy's 10 Day Countdown Thread

How did I miss this thread??? You crack me up Kathy! I'm so glad you are using this time to get organized. Oh yeah, I was taking valium, I was a TOTAL wreck!!! I've been a journaler for my entire life, but my of my journals have been in dark times, and I used it for therapy. This, however, is not a dark time. I'm taking this time to do some serious introspection. Heck! I figured out that I'm a hoarder! (Something that apperently EVERYBODY who comes to my house knew...) I'm so excited for you Kathy and you too Kat! I couldn't find liquid Gas-x either, so we used baby gas drops. And yes, I was a great big baby!

OT: Help, my Jade plant is dying..

Kathy, I like how you are keeping your self busy! I sure wish I had your distraction instead of mine -- I had to worry about my pre-calculus test! (I have to get a "B" in the class...) Good luck with your plant. I didn't bring any to exile with me... no place to store them over the summer. Luckily my Spudboy's girlfriend has been taking care of my houseplants at home--the ones that didn't die the first year anyway

How do you feel about kids banded?

It really depends on the size of the kid, doesn't it. I know that the Band has not been approved for children under 18. There is a boy that has attended some of the support meetings that my surgean has (I can't go because I'm in exile.) This boy weighs over 400 pounds at age 16. I think for this boy, the band is probably the right thing. I know that there are a number of parents out there who might get their children banded because they "might" get fat. When I was a teen, my parents were forever getting after me about my weight, but when I look at my high school pix, I WAS THE SAME SIZE AS EVERYBODY ELSE. I wasn't fat, even though my parents insisted that I was. THEY were fat, not me.

    Jenna's powerball winnings!

Remember, no saving of ANY type, no paying off bills of any type! This is great! I think Poeple don't dream enough! If you can't dream it, you cannot achieve it.

    How Many of you??....

Okay, I've only been banded for 2 weeks, but I am very, very happy. I was bandded by the same surgeon that did my DH 2 years ago. Thre facility was very, very nice, and the care I recieved was top notch. Unfortunately, I've spent more than my fair share of time in hosptal, and thing was was top notch. They make everyone feel very special, and they treat my DH like a super star.

ah ha ha ha ha, mammary prosthesis! Of course, for women who've had a mastectomy this could be quite important. Now, if they could only figure out a way to transfuse boobs!
