My dear old Dad used to say "apple pie without the cheese is like a kiss without the squeeze!" Oh yes, apples and cheese are a natural pearing (yeah, pun intended), not only from a taste perspective, but sound eating as well. The apple has sweet sugar and fiber, while the fat and protein help stave off hunger longer. It is all part of eating "low glycimic"

Hey Nykee, my DH has lost 200 pounds so far, and has about another 150 to go! -
Off to an interesting start for 2005 Please forgive the length of this post, but I really need to vent. Since the first of the year, I’ve been admitted to the hospital twice. Not so good when you notice we are just now on day 7 into the New Year. The official diagnosis is “reactive airway disease with restrictive ventilatory defect due to obesity.” The treatment: loose weight while taking massive doses of steroids. I’m so tired of them not knowing what is wrong, so they use my weight as the scapegoat. “Because you are fat, we will say that is what is wrong. While we’ve never actually been able to prove that your extra weight is the cause of you not being able to breathe, we heard about another doctor that saw someone who couldn’t breathe because they were fat. And since you are fat, that must be why you can’t breathe. That, or you are just faking it. … If only you had the strength of will-power, you should loose weight. Oh, and those steroids, well, yes, you will probably gain another 20 pounds, but don’t worry, you just need to be stronger…. What? You say you are currently on 1500 calories? Well, that doesn’t make sense, you should be losing weight. Why don’t you try running and see if that helps you lose weight? I got the flu for Thanksgiving, and have been sick since. I didn’t qualify for the flu shot in ID, since it was really scarce there. Not sure why they didn’t give me a flu shot while I was in the hospital. I’m tired of being tired. I’m tired of not being able to breathe. I’m tired of doctors scapegoating instead of finding the true cause.

Kelly, I believe the joke goes like this: What is the diffence between God and Doctors? God knows he's not a doctor.

I'm not sure what deflated lungs are, anything like collapsed lungs? This Christmas break I had another partially collapsed lung, all part of the magic of being me. It takes me a while to get back to normal, but I always get there. It is VITAL that you use your spiromiter, that weird thing that you suck on for 10 seconds. This little contraption will help to increase your lung function. If you are a smoker, you must stop. I don't know if once you've had one collaps you are suseptable to another. Call your surgeon and get the information. You might want to talk to your PCP to see what she thinks too.

Hi Penni, when I first read the title of this post, I thought "well of course she gained weight, she's increased her work-out to get ready for the full marathon!" Your clothes are not fitting differently, right? RIGHT? Have you taken your measurements? I know you are under tremendous stress right now. We forget that stress releases hormones that make us gain weight. Relax and be kind to yourself, espeically now. (now, if only I could take my own advice... )

((((((((((Oh Babs! )))))))))) I am so sorry you got this news. Yeah, "medically neccessary" is quite the quandry, especially when viagra, et. al, get approved, but birth control is another matter entirely.... It took a long time to get my second skin graph after my motorcycle accident. I cannot tell you the number of Dr.s who said I just needed to baby the original site. Baby it hell! I had to sleep with a wet cloth on my leg just to help control the uncontrolable itching. In warm weather I would have to spend all day with my leg elevated to held reduce the seepage. And they kept telling me that I just needed to baby it an to quit whining about it. The insureance company kept turning the revision down bacause it wasn't "necessary." Fight this Bab! Fight! Fight! Fight! You know that we are all here for you. We all send you such wave of positive energy, we remember you in our prayers, no matter whom we pray to. If you need help with your letters, I know we have some very eloquent writers here who would jump at the chance to help you. You said the skin on your thighs is breaking down, are you bleeding? I should think at the very least you are suseptable to skin infections similar to celulitus. You might think about that angle when you write your letters. (((((((((( Babs! ))))))))))

Need Help, I feel like I'm "dieting" again!

Isn't it funny how people react differently to the band? Christina and I were banded on the same day, and yet our experiences are so different. I still have lots of stomach edema, so I'm having a difficult time getting more than 800 calories in a day. (although since I've been adding Peanut Butter and nutella, I can get up around 1000 no problem!) Christina, like you I am becoming obsessed with calories and fat and Protein and Calcium and ... and.. and. You are doing nothing wrong, you just don't have any restiction. And I think all our pro-banders are right on the money (aren't they always?). It does sound like the nutrishonist isn't experienced with bandsters who don't have restiction right out of the gate. Hang in there! -
Hang in there......the weight does start to fall off (X-Post)
vinesqueen replied to beckidid's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I'm discouraged because I've had a nagging headache for more than a week now. I'm discouraged because I cannot seem to get much more than 800 calories a day, because my fybromialgia is currently kicking my butt, because my hair seems to be falling out by the handfuls. (it sure seems that way when I wash my hair.) I'm discouraged because I feel like that guy in the commercial--he's in a gym, weighs himself, then pops in his ipod earbuds and runs around the room once. He then pops back on the scale and is disapointed because he hasn't lost any weight in the 10 seconds. I know I'm not being realistic. But you just can't reason with emotions... they're so darn... emotional. -
I believe it is Brisbane, but I might just be making up that part. I'm not exactly sure, because they are still working out the details.

Tammy (Tambonzjo): Welcome to the Banded Gentry

I'd like to welcome Tammy (Tambonzjo) to the Banded Gentry! She was banded 4/7 -
Hey Mark, and welcome! Let's see. I don't know about singing, but four days after my banding my DH and I drove the 800 odd miles from Seattle to SE ID. I was very tired after my banding, but I had asthma issues to deal with. I was back in class a week after banding with great energy levels Part of it depends on how quickly you heal, and I suppose how much singing you will be doing. My advice is that if you decide to go ahead and sing, rest up before you have to go on stage. Good luck and let us know what you decide!

Thanks for the post Beckidid. *sigh* I'm three weeks banded, and getting discuraged. Thanks for the post. -
Yes we can have booze, but be careful! Because the alchohol will be absorbed in the pouch instead of the stomach proper, it will probably hit you harder and faster than before you were banded. Be careful! You will probably now be a cheap date, if you weren't one before! Also, there is some research that suggest that drinking alchohol will retard your weight loss within something like a week of drinking the alchohol. Jenna and Marie, I believe that those only work for acid based sodas like cola and Dr. Pepper. Rootbeer will just make a sticky mess. (and *sniff* sniff* NO I'M NOT DONE CRYING **WAAAAA**)

Hey Jorget, I felt pertty good within a few days. I was very tired, but not really in much pain. I had the liquid Lortab as well. Some insurance companies do, some don't. Again, it depends on how much extra skin you have, and your insurance company. You might need to show medical necessity (gawd I wish I could spell), like Jamie said. I'm a full time student, and I was back to class the following week. There are plenty of chatters, usually someone will post to one of the "Chat Anyone?" threads to let others know that people are chatting.

very dramatic Vera! Hope your recovery goes well! I'm glad you are feeling better too. so, are you loosing as fast as the first time you were banded?

I have to agree with Kathy, I've noticed a tendence to think we are waaaayyy over eating, when in fact we're actually within "normal" eating range. As for eating like a truck driver... My friend Brenda doesn't eat a lot, but gosh, are her manners attrocious!
