Hi Regandy, welcome to LBT. My husband and I have both been banded, and never considered any of the other types of WLS. I believe my DH would have died from his weight if the Band was not an option. And it is possible that I would be dead in the next few years from asthma complications if not for the band. We have not experienced any sort of problems with our bands. He's been banded almost 2 years and I've been banded for 9 weeks. Yes, we have to drink lots of Water, but we have to drink lots of water anyway. Like Jack said, it's like oil for the machine. My DH has had to drastically alter his lifestyle, basically because he was killing himself with food. If he hadn't been banded, I wonder if I would be a widow right now. He weighed 600 pounds when he was banded. But he would have never chosen a different type of WLS. My surgeon is one of the ones who is banding folks who've had other types of WLS that need revisions. Feel free to PM me for more information if you wish. Good luck on your journey.

I Have An Option-need Your Advice
vinesqueen replied to I'llsucceed's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I look at the very faint scar from my gall bladder and can't think that my new port scar above the belly button is going to be any different. Yes, my band scars are currently a lovely eggplant purple, but I know that this will fade to practially invisible. Also, I sort of think having it placed lower would interfere with some activities that require bending and curling. But I'm a computer geek so take that with a gain of salt. -
Comparison of All Weightloss Surgeries

I agree with what you said Alex, about it being desireable in the sort run, but I guess I am just a long term thinker. I guess I have to go back to my husband's experience. I have no idea what tiny percentage of the population are as fat as he was when he was banded. Heck, I don't know what percentage of folks are as fat as he currently is. I wish there was greater awareness of the band. I know that people are emotionally generally invested in the WLS they chose. I know that I'm no different in that I think my choice is the best one for everyone. I mean, that isn't true, but it is human nature. -
Thanks everyone! I've gotten some partial results, I got a "C" in statistics and a "B" in precalc/college algebra. I got an "A" in my horseback riding class too, and of course, I did very well in my security classes. I'm thrilled to bits with my grades, espeically considering the significant health problems from the first of the year. However, I still have to wait for my accounting grade. Had a nightmare about it lastnight. *sigh*

Amen sister! Also, there is some small comfort in knowing that I could take them in a bar fight.

He loves me, He loves me not

What a sucky place you are in now Diva! I'm so sorry. ((((hugs)))) I would say to listen to his actions, I don't know who said it, but actions speak louder than words. This was something that I had to learn the hard way, to listen to the deeds rather than the words. Actions don't lie. That's the problem with love. You have to be willing to be vulnerable in order to win the big prize. As for the question of "the best you could do." This might be tough to hear. Perhaps at the time you started to go with him he *was* the best you could do. That may not be true now however. Hopefully as we go through our lives we progress and gain some degree of wisdom. For some, that journy is sunny and easily traveled on a well paved road. For others, we have to struggle through swamp and desert and jagged volcanic rocks that tear our shoes and our feet. My DH is the best I can do. (I also posted this on your xpost in the Lounge) -
No fill for me, and I can feel my port

Great work! Any word on when you get your first fill? Yup, I agree, there is an emotional component to when you get to solid foods.
-
A loss is still a loss right? Congrats! Don't forget to track your inches lost as well as watching the scale.

Comparison of All Weightloss Surgeries

hmmm, it is just me, or does anyone else think that malabsorption is a bad thing? Why would anyone think this was a good idea? -
welcome to Bandlandia!

I lost hair from the trauma of the surgeries. But it only lasted a couple of weeks. We shall see what happens at the end of summer. Delara may have to get a special filter for her pool!

I'm 9 weeks out, had great restriction after surgery. I started on solid foods 4 weeks out, as per Drs orders. I've had the "suck" feeling on several occasions, but mostly that has been from medications, and only a few times from food. I've yet to have a PB, but I've had the excessive salivation thing -- usually more than an hour after I've eaten. Good luck on your research!

Huzza Zoe! Welcome to Onderland!

My DH has the same habit of drinking while eating. It was pretty funny, when he was bringing me back to my exile after I was banded, we stopped for some Breakfast, and he didn't order a drink! I thought that was interesting... I generally have a sip of Water of two after I eat certain foods just to wash out my mouth and clear my throat. The not drinking while eating was a really difficult habit for me to break too.

Does everyone strain their food on full liquid phase?
vinesqueen replied to apple's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Well, it depends on your dr's advice and how much you can tolerate. I was told to not worry about my calorie intake at all, but to make good food choices. -
Oh Betty, I just have to laugh! The visuals are just great! You wild woman you!
-
Sorry, Chicgo was/is too far for me to go, as a poor student my time and funds are limited.

I didn't strain anything. I just blended things completely with a hand blender. I didn't blend up the egg drop soup though... -
okay, I bought an new pedometer yesterday. Took a walk, went shopping, bla bla bla. Recorded steps? 58. Maybe I need to take smaller steps? So much for my Crystal-proof pedometer.

What question do you hate the most...
vinesqueen replied to CambronKD's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You are right up to a point Cambron. It is a personal decision whether to tell or not. But unfortunately there comes a point where it isn't our decision anymore. Like when you tell one person and they tell a couple of people, etcetera. I wasn't going to tell everybody at my work; I had only origianlly told a couple of people, but one of the women sent an e-mail to our entire group telling them I was fine after my surgery. Oops! I think half my college knows now. But I don't have any heartburn when people ask about the band. There are so many things I don't know about other topics that I figure it's only fair that people want to educate themselves about a topic that I'm somewhat an expert in. (only because I've got the band.)
