Welcome to the Banded Gentry Rae! Great work on the weight loss, wow! Oh my gawd, I have to laugh because I don't think Tacoma has many trees at all! I remember what it was like around here when I was a little girl and feel like there are hardly any trees left! Heh, I spend 9 months a year in exile in your neck of the woods Rae, and I have to laugh and laugh. My DH and I took a drive through the Carriboo National Forest in SE ID and we were confused because we couldn't find a forest....

What's Your Favorite Type of Pet?
vinesqueen replied to donali's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
okay, now I am going to cry. There is a wonderful book that I'm not going to buy call something like "for the love of old dogs" I picked it up and had to put it down. -
I can't think of another use for an inflatable zip-tie. I'll have to meditate on that. The only thing that imediately comes to mind is regulating fluids in a car...

What's Your Favorite Type of Pet?

my poor poor old dog. I don't want to have him put down, but he's getting to the point where I may have no choice. They just don't make doggy walkers or wheelchairs for elderly dogs. He's gotten to the point where he doesn't really walk normally anymore, he just sort of hobbles. two days ago he had to take a nap while he was eating his dinner. Standing that long was too long. walking the distance from the living room to the backdoor is almost too far to make all at once. He made it to the back door then had to lie down before he could go out, but I think he was mad at us because we took that opportunity to cut his nails... My poor old dog. I feel like crying. -
many people just cannot handle bread after banding. Their bands just don't like the suff, other people have no trouble. If you are eating bread, then you are probably not eating your protien and vegies first. I have fybromyalgia, and if I eat bread or lots of carbs I am in physical pain then next day. A bowl of mac'n'cheese can make me feel hungover the next day. I could prbably handle bread, if I can eat cheese burgers. But I choose not to eat bread... but for me, it is a question of would I rather eat a sandwich or wear a size 12? (my goal...)

yup, got to fill it up with air, and play with it. She used a 12cc syringe to show me how much the band can hold.

when I was in high school my dad gave me a great essay to read. I don't remember who wrote it, or even the name of the essay, but it was old. It was called something along the lines of "The importance of being selfish." What?! the importance of being selfish?! How could that be, being selfish is a very bad thing, or so we are taught. I wish I had a copy so I could pass it on to my son. Being selfish is not being greedy. Being selfish means that you make sure that all your needs are met so that you can meet the needs of others. If you do not take care of yourself, you cannot adiquately care for others, and they will suffer because you do not care for yourself. You cannot fill a glass from an empty pitcher. I think the best example of Being Selfish is the example of the oxygen masks dropping. You are directed to put your mask on before you attempt to help anyone else.

Who was discouraged and isn't anymore?
vinesqueen replied to Alexandra's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Oh man! After the inial weight came off (mostly Water weight but I'll take that) I stopped loosing. I would weigh myself every week and I didn't see any progress. None. Not after the first few weeks. However, I was still loosing inches, so I took that. Because I went so long before I got a fill, I could eat everything, like entire happy meals from McDonalds, so it was just as if I didn't get a band. I even gained 5 pounds back. Double cheeseburgers, entire small pizzas, you name it, I could eat it. Talk about depressing. (yeah, yeah, I know, I know, band's a tool, won't work if you don't work it, bla, bla bla. ) So. Stopped getting on the scale. I know even though I gained back some weight, I didn't gain inches. (I've decided the tape measure doesn't lie to me, unlike that lier scale.) I got my first fill a week ago. Got my first unfill a week ago. Got even more fill removed yesterday. Doing much better last night and today. I lost 5 pounds last week, but I couldn't eat more than 1/4 cup at a time, and only soft foods. Even water hurt. The band is a process. It will take a long time to loose the weight I'm put on over a lifetime. I am an American, so I want everything NOW! GIMME! But I just stay off the scales. -
Congrats Darcey! Great work! I'm a little worried about you working nights then trying to be on a "normal" schedule the rest of the week. I'm worried that you will completely throw off your cercadian rythm (okay, why doesn't the F7 key work on this site? ) and get comepletly out of whack. When I was in my 20's I used to work as a short order cook. This one place I was at I worked all three shifts every week. 2 graves, 2 days and a swing every week. After about 6 months I completely lost it. It was so bad my personality changed and I completely lost my sence of humor. Cranky, crabby, snappy and no sence of humor! And don't even get me started on how bad it messed up my cycle... I worry about you!

My son is very big. Like bouncer big. I was able to keep a handle on his weight mostly until he started being able to go places on his own, with his own money. Soda pop has been his major downfall, and there is nothing I can do to stop it. He goes to the gym at least 2x a week and works out, but his father was really big, and well, I've got the band. He's seen the weight that DH has lost, and now Spudboy is a little worried that someday they might weigh the same! So, that's motivated my baby.

Honey! Don't worry about your fat intake right now! No! No! No! Don't worry about getting too many calories right now either! If you get extra fat to get the protien you need, get the extra fat. You will do better with the extra fat than not getting enough Protein. Definately sounds like you are not getting enough Water too. I'm supposed to get at least 64 oz of water. Call your nutrishonist.

My Dr.s Advice for a Happy Hour/Beer Girl
vinesqueen replied to soonergirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
last night I had a lovely glass of light peach juice (Now With Calicum!) and ice cold vodka. -
I think ya'll are making these stories up. Except for Trish.

Sorry to hear about your Grandfather. I'm even more sorry about your dad.

My recovery was great. I was grocery shopping the next morning on the way home from the hospital. My worst pain was from my period. I've been banded 12 weeks, no PBs (productive burp), no vomiting but I've woken up nausious a time or two (I sometimes do that even before band.) Only regret is that I didn't do this sooner.
-
Ah ha ha ha ha ha. Sorry, you are right on schedule. I don't think I've read of one person here on LBT that wasn't freaked out by their impending surgery. (((((hugs))))) Getting hit by a rock was a pretty good excuse. I hated PE classes as a child. Always, always. The kid in the coma would get paicked before me.... "No fair, we had to take Crystal last time! Nu-uh, we had her."

My bottle-baby son never had a single ear infection his entire life. I breast fed until I had my motorcycle accident when he was 3 months old. I stopped because the trauma of the accident stopped my milk. It is possible that the trauma of the surgery could stop your milk production as well.
-
Great question. I haven't quite figured out the whole thing. For me, head hunger seems to be a case of "there is no way a quarter cup of chilli could possibly be enough. I need to eat more." My band says ENOUGH but my brain says MORE.

I hate it when people stand on my one last nerve!

The weight really is dropping overnight!!!
vinesqueen replied to KRZYGIRLNSTL's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
great work! Don't be discouraged once you hit solids, because most people find they even gain a little back when they hit that stage. -
you might want to increase your vitamine C, since that helps with healing in general, but also helps with brusing. (you should have seen the amazing bruses I got in my Tae Kwon Do class...)
-
My DH was 'super super obese" which is of course, the catagory after "super obese." He's lost just shy of 200 pounds, last weigh-in he'd lost 196 pounds. He was 600 pounds when he was banded. If the band hadn't been available, he would probably be dead since he would have never gotten anything else.
-
I had the same thing. I found patting my tummy where it was itching helped.
-
I'd be thinking about switching doctors too. You have every right to be pissed off

I had pretty bad brusing Christinia. When I bruse I tend to have so purple it might as well be black, which generally fade to green. mmmmmm yummy.
