Welcome to the Banded Gentry!!

It's been a couple of days, how are you feeling? I know that for me, the first few days are always the most difficult.

I have no self discipline!!!!!!!!

Desertmom, that's one of the great things about the band, it helps provide the dicipline! I'm not sure if I'm reading your post right. You are having a difficult time knowing WHAT to eat in addition to WHEN to stop eating? Sorry if I don't make any sence, but I'm sort of loopy these days. If you are having a difficult time knowing WHEN to stop, then I think the suggestions of setting the timer for 20 miniutes is a good idea and might work well for you. As soon as the little timer goes DING! You stop eating. I also like Mike's suggestion about the napkin. That might work well for you too. As for WHAT to eat... Well, get your hard Proteins in first. then your veggies, then your carbs. If you are still hungery, then have more vegies. The serving size that Jessie suggests to use is a tuna can size for your food. If you are having menu planning issues, that is something else. I know that we've had several threads on menus and meal planning. Perhaps if you don't see anything that works there for you, you could start a new thread? -
While I'm in exhile 9 months out of the year, my band drs are about 750 miles away

I don't know what boars head turkey is, but if you can have chicken salad, then turkey should be a-ok.

I ate ice cream for dinner. HELP!!!
vinesqueen replied to HamuChan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Since we are not dieting, YOU CANNOT CHEAT! It is a completely different mind set. You don't have to deprive yourself of anything. There is no "being good" or "being bad." There is only "making better food choices overall" and "smaller portions." -
Here I was thinking you had sushi made from Pollock, which is a type of cod. Now, I love sashimi, but I don't think Pollock sashimi would be very yummy....

acid foods are recommended to be avoided for a while after banding. Spicy foods, as well as acidic foods cause lots of churn, which is to be avoided during the healing stages. Cheers!

But a related question, are/were your parents MO? Both my parents were/are MO, my dad's sisters are MO, and two of my mother's aunts were MO. My ex-husband's mother was MO... but I never met any of his sibs.

as above, but yes, there are times when you simply must let go of a friend. Like Jack said, some people just drain the very life energy out of you. Not easy to say good-bye, but sometimes this is what we need to do to take care of ourselves.

I ate ice cream for dinner. HELP!!!
vinesqueen replied to HamuChan's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
woo-who! ice cream for dinner! You are not on a diet. You haven't failed anything. Like Alex said, you only aid ice cream for dinner, you didn't have ice cream and dinner for dinner. It isn't like you killed anybody, or robbed a bank, or insulted a nun or someone's Grandma. The good news is that even if you do gain 5 pounds, you don't have to keep them. Thnk of it like you just invited someone you like for dinner. In this case, that someone was ice cream. Please be KIND to yourself. -
It took about 3 weeks to sleep on my tummy again too. One thing that I found very helpful was a body pillow. I would hug that close to me so that I would try to fool myself into thinking that I was sleeping on my tummy. Didn't work, but it was very comforting.

I was told to use the staw test too.

Has anyone read this Lapband book...
vinesqueen replied to Aussiegirl's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I haven't read the book, but Jessie does my fills.... -
Heather, I had my first fill last Thursday too. Then I had some taken out. Yesterday I had more taken out. I was banded 3 months ago. DO NOT TRY TO TOUGH IT OUT. Not worth it. Get some taken out.

Okay Christina, you win. You poor baby! I had about the same color, but mine wasn't nearly as big an area as yours. ((((hugs)))) I don't know about "normal" Christina. I have other special weirdness of my own. Do I feel like I did before having the band? Not only no, but HELL NO! <insert happy dance here> (okay, I've had a couple of days where I felt like death warmed over, but no one has had to call 911 for me.) I'm building a new "normal."

I took a horseback riding class 2 weeks after being banded. Amusment part rides have nothing on learning to trot!

Wow, what a great opportunity!

What's Your Favorite Type of Pet?
vinesqueen replied to donali's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
My poor Astro probably wouldn't benifit from one of the doggy wheelchairs, because he still has a very diffiuclt time with his front legs as well as his back legs. I've seen that webside for the older dogs before, and it always makes me cry. We adopted Asto when he was almost 10, so he was old when he came to live with us. He'll be 16 in October... He's learned a new trick... he's figured out how to open the pantry door so he can go "grocery shopping" whenever he wants. Do y'all have any idea how much mess a box of bisquick makes???? Almost as much of a mess as a bag of flour! He was mad at one of "our boys" yesterday. Casey didn't greet him as usual, and Astro was upset about it all day! Funny old dog!
