    Soy Milk

there is some current research that is indicating that soy is benifical for women, especially as we approche menipause. And dont' forget the media hype!

    My Girl Susie

As my dog gets older and older, I find myself drawn more and more to old dogs. Yeah, I know, weird. Driving my son to his girlfriend's house, we passed a couple that was out walking their very old setter. (not as old as my Astro though) I got misty eyed, and made my son laugh.

    Art work and their artists

My guess is that you used a children's plastic pool. That or you used a stake with string to make a giant compas. I love my worm bins. I need to move them to a different part of the yard before I got back to ID. Of course they count Lisa!

    Soy Milk

Lisa, it is possible that we are related. Or that both our mothers went to The Deprive Institute for the Insane. One of the supervised weight loss things I did removed all food from your diet, and I mean ALL food. You slowly added one food back to see what you were sensitive too. I'm sensitive to corn and soy--they both make me crazy hungry. Flat out allergic to raw bananas and walnuts.

    SEX, SCARS & DATING!!!

hey Lisa, does it still look like an eye? You could always lie, and say you'd been wounded in a sword fight while you were a pirate. Or a Viking. Very romantic. Or perhaps you could say something along the lines of "you know that sceen in Alien?" and just leave it at that. but I still think honesty is the best policy

LapBand vs. Bypass & weight loss

there really is no comparison between the two procedures. There really is no comparison between your band and my band, since your experiences are and will be different from mine. Please don't compaire your journey with anyone elses, especially not the RNY folk. You will only make yourself crazy, cranky and cause you to second guess yourself. And as for "only losing 30 pounds"... hello! That is great work and you should be proud of what you've accomplished so far.

very glad to hear you are recovering well! You've been in my thought lately, but don't knw how I missed the thread... I can hardly wait to see your pix! I will probably need a TT and a BR, but my poor DH... He's going to need the whole body lift when he gets close to goal.

    gain before surgery

I gained weight before my surgery. No worries. they will know you gained weight, they will weigh you before the surgery. Also, there is the possiblity that the two scales don't match up. Are you working on a liquid diet? Call them, tell them how nervous you are. Be kind to your self!
  10. for some people, women in particular, being 5-10-15 pounds overweight has a more severe impact on them than it does for some of us who are 100 pounds overweight. Anorexia, bulima, et.al have terrible consequences. I've watched women in my pilaties class who are just devistated by how "fat" they are, all size 6 of them. In the locker room one day, a young woman was in tears because she'd "gained" ONE pound. I have no f*ing clue about how she felt. I've had men tell me that if I didn't loose weight they would leave me. I told them where the door was.

    Soy Milk

yeah, I'm not a big milk drinker either. It has something to do with powdered non-fat milk mixed half strength. (Of course, my mother always had whole milk in the fridge that was just for her, we got in more trouble than it was worth to drink it) I don't drink soy milk because soy makes me hungry. Some people who are lactose intolerant use soy.

    New Habits

The basic guides are: 1. eat your solid protien fisrt, then your veggies, then your less complex carbs if room, about a cup of food, more or less. 2. chew the heck out of everything 3. Drink about 60ish oz of Water everyday. 4. don't drink with meals, or for 30-60 minutes after meals (it will wash out the food from our pouch so we will be hungry sooner.) 5. avoid caloric beverages 6. excersize! Get active and get moving, get your groove thing on! 7. get enough sleep! Welcome to Bandlandia, and you've only been banded ONE week! Give it time! and be kind to yourself! Kathy burn that fat pix! Burn it, Destroy it! That fat pix is one of the things holding you back. You see that pix, you internalize it. You say, man, I really am that fat. That becomes your image of you. Do you really think you can fight easily against that??? Put up a thin pix! If you don't have a pix of you near your goal, find someone who looks like what you want to achieve, and paste your head on that body!!!!!

    New Habits

Not sure exactly what you are looking for Kathy. I find that following the Bandster Guides really helps me with my weight loss. But those are all physical, and I am convinced that a majority of this journey is about fixing our heads as well as our bodies, right? I mean, we have tons of people who have lost tons on diets, but it always comes back with a vengence. Why? Why does it come back? Because our head, for what ever reason, needs us to be fat. Not in every case surely, but in many cases. Look at the trouble of Body Dysmorphia--when we are fat in the head, we are fat in the body. Our minds will work very hard to make our reality real. Right now, I feel like I am a slow looser. I know that according to some I'm a zoomer, while compaired to others I'm practicly standing still. But I try to not compair my journy to any other's. Of course, I do, but I try not to. One of the thing I am trying do is to change the picture I have of me. Change my mind's picture. I have a pix of when Spud was a baby. Of course I thought I was gi-normous, but looking at the pix, I can now see that I wasn't. I know that I will never look exactly like that, I'll never look that young, but I figure I can get that pointy chin again. One of the other things I'm doing is teaching myself to draw. It keeps my hands and my mind occupied. When I have a real bad snack attack I try to pick up one of my sketch books and my pencil pod. If I'm engaged in something else, I don't/won't think about food.

Heat Wave, Humidity & Tighter Band?

okay, yesterday was the 1/2 half of the Bite of Seattle. We had actually gone down to the Seattle Center so we could watch the new Willy Wonka movie at the IMAX. (WOW!) It was/t too hot, but I was terribly stressed. I don't handle crowds of people at all well, and Mike could tell I was on the verge of total panic a few times. I learned that when I get really stressed, my band shuts down. I believe I have a good fill level, but I got so tight I couldn't drink Water without it threatening to get stuck. So, stress definately affects my band.
  21. I eat corn on the cob, no worries for me. But I can also eat sandwiches.

    Breaking Off An Engagement.....

My younger sister had always dated (or married) cute but bad. Only interested in how pretty she was, not who she was. She was actually a trophy bride. Pretty, blond, skinny. And totally miserable. After her divorce, she went back to school and got her GED & and AA degree in computer support (MSCE). She got a job at a big tech company and started dating geek boys. For the very first time in her entire life, she is happy. She doesn't have some man placing impossible demands on her (I'll leave you if you don't lose 5 pounds). Geek boys generally are interested in the entire package. And for the ones that don't panic when a female speaks to them, they just treat you right. j I love my geek boys.

    Going back to Work????

I was back to school the next week. I'm hoping that next year's spring break will involve a beach!
  24. I agree with Alex, it sounds like you were given the RNY diet. And after eating 1/2 cup, I believe you are SUPPOSED to be hungry in 4 hours.

    Pre-op Cheater!!

No "Cheating." This is because the Band is NOT a diet. I think this is one of the biggest hurdles for new bandsters who are serial dieters. The Band isn't a diet, so there is no cheating. My surgeon recommended a liquid diet, but I gained 5 or 10 pounds before the surgery due to steroids. Did he scold me or make me feel like a failure? hell no. He patted my arm, and said let's get you done. No worries.
