    The Honeymoon is Over

I've been thinking about your first post on this thread Zoe. One of those things that has been occupying my brain, chewing up cycles.... Sounds like you are dieting. Or at least, in the dieting mind frame. Perhaps give yourself permission to be where you are for a while? I know that before I found my DH I was in that "I'll never find Mr. Right" funky place. I was tired of dating frogs and toads. So, I stopped looking. Which was a good thing, because he was right there all along. Any, I digress. Maybe you just need some time to be with yourself, no pressure, no expectations, just learning to be comfortable with yourself again?

    Restaurant Meals?

Last night I went on a great date with DH. We went to a great Seattle restaurant, and I had cantilope martinis. We split an order of 2 lambchops and a 1/2 order of asian bbq shrimp, so he had 3 shrimp and I had 4.... Do you have any idea how small a lamb chop is? They are tiny little things! We even had desert, which alost never happens. I had the chocolate torte and he had the blackberry ice cream. (blackberries are sooo under rated! Devine little droop fruit! ) We didn't even finish our deserts. We were completely satisfied. The the SAM (Seattle Art Musium) they had a cocktail buffett, but neither one of us even looked at that wonderful food or the complementry wine... I LOVE MY BAND.
  6. I am crazy about music, so my rewards are CDs. One CD for every pound, but I wait until I hit a 5# mark before I buy more CDs. I can substitue DVDs if I want. Since I regularly treat myself to all the F-A-B spa sorts of things, those are not part of my rewards. (oh yeah, I make full use of the cosmetology school at my University) I think when I get to goal I want to go to Calistoga, CA for a full mudbath treatment & hot air balloon thing. Mallorcia is beautiful. I went there on holliday when I was an au-pair for an English family. I probably would have enjoyed it more if I didn't have the mumps...

    Boring plateaus

I don't think you are doing anything wrong. Not a thing. I am convinced that it is your brain's way of adjusting. Adjusting to your new size, to the new ammount of space you take up. I think they happen when our bodies/minds sort of panic and they just have to get used to the new "you." Your heart has to pump less blood, etc. Lots of adjustments are going on behind the sceens. You've lost close to 60 pounds! You've lost over 25 KG! You've lost 3.5 stones! That more weight than a giant bag of rice! It also seems that when we see the scale stop moving other things are going on. Are you tracking your measurements? How many inches/cm have you lost??? How many sizes and notches on your belt??? How much better do you feel?

    Sleep apnea anyone?

I was absolutely convinced that there was no way I had sleep apnea. No possible way. I wasn't well rested, but I had developed terrible insomnia. I simply couldn't fall asleep. No naps, and I sure never woke myself up snoring either. I never snored really loudly either... my dog and my husband however... I am a tummy sleeper, and I slept on my tummy during my studies. Just worried is all.
  9. I was back to school the next week, I'm a full time student. No problems. I was horseback riding at two weeks.

    Sleep apnea anyone?

Teresa, how long did you use it? Just that one night? Give it a while and you will be amazed at the results! At your current size it is a fair bet that you have sleep apnea. It is potentially deadly. You could die in your sleep, or you could die from the side effects of chronic sleep deprivation... like falling asleep while you are driving. If you think you were mis-diagnosed, GET A SECOND OPIONION!!!! This is serious stuff. Americans don't value sleep anymore. We sort of view people who get 8 hours of sleep as lazy. Our health has suffered, and there are studies that indicate that sleep deprived people gain weight and have trouble loosing it.
  14. I read this report or maybe it was an abstract of the report, and it is very interesting. I dont' know that I've ever been discriminated on because of my weight. I've been discriminated because I'm a woman, but not becaue of my weight. The first time I've ever really experience any negative that I could tell was directly because of my weight was on a flight out of Pocatello Idaho. The woman I sat next too was downright hostile. And It's happened on several Pokey/Seattle flights. I was absolutely bewildered the first couple of times it happened. It was only women, never men. I didn't answer your poll, because I feel that there isn't a "I don't "think" I've been discriminated against. It is possible that my weight had some effect, but it's been obviously gender biased.

    Its H O T !!!!!!!

I'm glad to hear that you are doing better Leatha. Itching is the worst thing ever! People will actually damage their skin to to make the itching stop. People soo buy into the "height/weight proportion only" that it's crazy. Many of these men calling for only HWP are pretty pudgy...

    Who has the craziest Parents?

I sure wish I could just walk away from my mother. Just walk away. Never look back, but I can't. This is more about the principle of the thing, not that I'm greedy. It may read that way, but oh well. I fully expect my mother to spend every cent she has, but that's her right. Like I said, it's the principle of the thing. My mother has re-done her will. Both brothers get a trust fund. Both brothers are long time losers. Both sisters get trust funds and get to split my mother's jewlery. I get nothing. She informed me that I've been cut out of the will because "I don't need anything." No, "I want you to have this for sentimental reasons." No "I'm proud of what you've accomplished." My mother's had dozens of operations, and I've been at her side for ever one. I've sat the vigiles, I've made sure she had everything she needed at the hospitals, bla bla bla. Brothers & younger sister? never anywhere to be found. I really shoudn't be surprised I suppose. I did take legal action against them in the 70's to make them stop hitting us, to make them buy us food. I guess I get my fair come-upance. Sometimes I wish I could have thrown her down the stairs just once, like she did to me. Simetimes I wish I could hit her hard enough to make her bleed from the welts. Why can't I just get say good-bye to this mean old woman and just walk away? Why do I keep hurting myself with her? Somedays it really sucks to be me.

    Sleep apnea anyone?

I have no idea how it was treated in surgery. I figure the sleepy-time doc knows what they are doing. While I was out, they took my CPAP machine away and gave it a once over. I had visions of the way they took care of the Tinman in Wiz of OZ... I stayed over night, and used my machine. I dont' need it any more, unless I have a really stuffy nose... And then it is damn near impossible to use becaue I have a stuffy nose.

Mari! Get busy and draw more!!!!! Wow!
  22. Wow Mercedes, if she is insanely jealous and will get angry, is she really your friend? Real friends support you, no matter what. Sure, we may give you our unsolicited advice from time to time, and we really might not like your new honey, but we will hold our tounges, but be there to help pick up the pieces. ... One of my great good friends is having the RNY. I sooo disagree with his choice (obviously, my choice is the only good and approprate choice, right???), but I will never, ever tell him he made a mistake, or that I think he made a mistake. I will always stand by him. I used to have "friends" who were only available when they wanted/needed something. I decided to let them go when I started on my journey. A fast way to loose 200 pounds though! I think people make those sorts of comments because they just want to be helpful. People, by our very nature, are very helpful. Even if we don't have any real information, we are always right there with a good suggestion. the Cardio doc my DH had to see pre-band said "have you just considered cutting out sweets?" good advice, but how far will that go for a 600 pound fat man???

  24. Bellingham is such a great town! DH wants to retire to Sequim (pronounced "squim") , but I would pick B'ham! Yes, Sequim is a real place, and it is where we spent our honeymoon. Poetic, in a squidgy sort of way... http://www.mapquest.com/maps/map.adp?searchtype=address&country=US&addtohistory=&location=vokFHlaHnxthiLr32bZzFNVghPzovG3cOAhS8XBXFUE65AelcSYgXgwpbYPt9RLeH%2bj0EOoVJh0RCMdIjGF%2fkhz1Pia55%2bRf

Right! Welding caps so they don't burn their hair! Of course! One of those Doh moments. Welding is a lot of fun, if not a bit intimidating at first.
