  1. Jane, so happy for you that you are in a good place! I'm excited to find out how you do. A positive attitude goes a long way in successful surgery. Best of luck!!

    Old suit or New suit

If it can be altered and it's in style, keep it. I doubt it can be though, going down a lot of sizes. Things like arm holes might get off-kilter Maybe you can form an attachment to the new one - it represents your new life!

Bill survived the 5 hour surgery!

My prayers are with all of you. I, too, have been in your shoes, and it does get better. xo
  6. I think it can help. I think we have to do the work, but the sleeve makes it much easier. Having said that - I think we can all gain significant weight even with the sleeve if we make bad choices. It's up to us to take advantage of the benefits of being sleeved.

    Where are the 50s ???

Oh yes, and I still think every pound I lose will be my last. It's hard not to think that way after failing for years. One thing I have learned is that it's consistency and what you do in the long run that makes a difference. Every day, it's one foot in front of the other, follow the program and the rules, and it will work. It's slower for some, faster for others, and it varies from time to time for each individual.
  9. We are in charge of our own destiny. You can do this. Pull yourself up, get rid of the things you know you shouldn't have, and follow your docs plan. Your life can and will change, but YOU are in charge of that. Nothing will change if you don't make that happen. Really, if you think about it, it's a pretty good thought - you are in control. Now dust yourself off, do what you know you need to do, and we re here for you! Good luck!

When did you start seeing a difference?

I could tell a difference at around 30 pounds, but most people started noticing close to 50 pounds lost. I have taken pics every month post op, and I think it was most noticeable at around 3-4 months post op, and I had lost about 65 pounds at that time.

    Too tight? too short?

It's neither. Looks great on you. Go ahead and wear that in public confidently.

    200 lbs down

In less than a year! Great for you!
  13. Congratulations. You look like you've never been overweight a day in your life. That must be such a wonderful feeling! Yeah, I wouldn't be stressing over that particular scale number

    Where are the 50s ???

Good for you! I had to chuckle because I said the same thing last year - 2013 is the year of me. So far I really like, and I've decided to extend it into 2014. It really does take that kinds of dedication to yourself to make the needed changes. It's a conscious effort, but so very well worth it. Good luck!

How do you track your calories?

I use MFP too. I try to stay around 800-1000 calories a day, about 75 gm protein. Don't count carbs, though I avoid bread, rice, pasta.

    Existential Crisis

Sorry for your panic, but one thing is for sure - it will be much easier to obtain new employment being 50 pounds lighter. Take a deep breath, try to make a game plan to continue to succeed with your sleeve, and pull your resume together to look for a new job. I find being proactive rather than reactive helps me feel in control.

    All you can eat

I have to watch what I eat. I'm 9 months out, and I know I could eat enough now to gain weight. I was fat due to bad habits like over eating and grazing. I can consume a lot of calories without realizing it, so for me, its a lifestyle change that requires calorie counting and tracking. Its WAY easier now that I'm not starved all the time.
  19. Obesity and asthma absolutely can be related. Just Google asthma and obesity. Mine improved with weight loss.
  20. I don't know what's right. I know, brilliant response, lol. I DO know that I am in the same boat. I seem to lose best at 800-900 calories. I've been eating around 1000, sometimes more, and my weight loss has really slowed, and I still have a long way to go. I think you hit the nail on the head - you (we all) are wired different. I don't want to eat that little for a long time, but it might be the only way to get to goal - if I ever do. Incidentally, my weight loss slowed just after 6 months post op, AND when I switched jobs, i.e., high stress. I think for me it's a complex mess of things at work here. I say go back to what has worked in the past and see if it works again. If not, abandon and try something else. How far do you have to go?

    BCBS of MI

It matters less about which insurance you have, and more about who its through and the details of the policy. Employers purchase policies that govern what is covered and to what extent. The best way to get accurate answers is to call the number on your card and get specific information about YOUR policy. Good luck!

    I lost what?

I lost a 2 month old horse, plus 10, plus a lot of hair, lol!

    All of my December sleevers...

I too have noticed I can hold more, and I cant seem to keep my calories at 800 like they want me to. I'm eating around 1000-1100 mostly now. My weight loss has really slowed, too. Not exactly stalled, but more like a pound a week. It's going to take another year to get to goal at this rate. However, I've resigned myself to that, and this is a way of eating and a life style I can maintain forever. I'm very happy with it.

I live with The Food ****!

I live with one, too - my 17 year old daughter, lol! She didn't want me to have the surgery because she thought it was too dangerous, and now she makes sure she watches and moderates everything I eat. She keeps telling me "you went through all that, I'm not going to let you have done it for nothing". I think it's a little funny, and it doesn't bother me. I know she does it because she is worried about me, and want to see me succeed. Sometimes, it actually does help me because it deters me from eating something I shouldn't, then later, I'm grateful she intervened. She is one tough boss, though
