SO Annoying! Anyone else share my frustration?
GypsyQueen replied to Aries's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A

Most of my gal pals are curvy :-). A couple are watching and asking a lot of questions because they are interested in the procedure for themselves. A few others watch from afar with genuine concern. There's one who is supposed to be my BFF, but has virtually disappeared. There are two who have verbally expressed their frustration, more so with themselves, and apologized for their hostility. And finally, my sister-in-law who is so desperate to have the surgery (and begged me not to have it without her), is falling into a deep clinical depression. My skinny friend expressed her past fear of coming to visit because she always gained weight being around me. I think that one has been the most painful to hear, because I know it was true. I expect to move to another state in about two years when my son graduates high school (husband's job). It will be interesting to see what my new friends look like, as in, birds of a feather flock together. Will they all be smaller?Interesting sociology question.

I just went in for my 2 week post op and it was a chatty waiting room. Most people were newly operated on and very happy thus far. There were two "skinny" ladies that started talking and they were 7 and 9 years out. We were all prepared to be excited by their stories, but we were horrified. Now let me say this up front, they were Bypass patients, but those two had been through the ringer. Stomach perf, intestinal perf, bowel resection, pelvic floor reconstruction, multiple pancreatic surgeries, uncontrolled sugar drops, massive hernias... I mean the list was long and scary. They were young, like just 30. They didn't experience most of their problems until years after surgery. My doc did not do either of their surgeries, nor did they feel that their surgeons were at fault, just their bodies response to the surgery. They did not know each other, but both had a really good sense of humor about their situations. I think if I'd met them the day of my pre op, I would have run like the wind, but I'm hoping this is the exception to the norm, and especially so for the sleeve. It would benefit those behind us if we all try to keep posting our experiences good or bad, at least once a year, so there's a lot more on here from those further than 2 years out. Feeling great, 13 days out!

Milk was allowed as soon as I got home from hospital and am supposed to have 2-3 cups a day with fiber. I can barely choke down 1 protein shake a day, so thank goodness it agrees with me. Nut said gurgling tummy was okay, but diarrhea was not.

I went for a relaxing massage the day before my surgery last week and the therapist explained to me how Water (tap and most bottled) can be modified and the molecules are too big for the cells in our body to absorb (you get the bloated feeling instead), and she suggested that I drink FUJI water because it might be so much better for me (until I get my home water tested...) Now I don't know if this is a bunch of hokum, but I've been splurging on the FUJI and it slides down nice and smooth. Got in 88 oz. today and only 5 days post op. Of course I will not keep spending that kind of $ on water, but I will look into a system or source that has the same effect. Any peeps knowledgeable on this topic?

Has your taste changed?
GypsyQueen replied to ladylaura's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
It's early yet. I anticipated the change, but so far, I can't say that anything has. Ketosis (no carbs) can do that, I understand, so I'm really retrying to keep fruit in my diet. Really hoping French fries gross me out when that time comes :-) -

What to have ready...
GypsyQueen replied to superstarsandi's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I can barely choke down a Protein shake, so I manage one a day and got the rest of my protein in with milk. The sf ice pops are good and I asked my nurse for a supply of the broth packets to bring home. Def have meds on hand, even if not needed. Better tone safe, than sorry! Best of luck! -

Fleet Enema was what doc recommended. $2 and quick relief. Comes in a 2 pack just in case! Good luck! -
So the nerves are hitting me now
GypsyQueen replied to ********'s topic in PRE-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
My surgery was last Friday and I was just as freaked out as you. I think I would have run had they given me another 5 minutes. I was nauseous in the hospital and had to stay an extra day, and asking why I did this to myself??? But have not taken pain meds since coming home and things have been going upward ever since. Everything is coming and going as it is supposed to and I feel great. If you have done your homework and have confidence in your doctor, everything else will fall into line. Stay strong!! -

Sleeved May 15 and Regretting it

My biggest fear of surgery was giving up NSAIDS (doc made me sign a contract). He said when the time comes, I may need them for chronic pain and would have to weigh out the risk. (I know many still do, but there is a serious risk. I have it severely in my hands, many joints are swollen and fused already). I went off my meds 5 mos. ago just to see, and doc put me on Tylenol/Tramadol regimen which was only working so/so. BUT I am happy to report that since surgery, my hand feel better than they have in years. Now surgery was only a week ago, but it has given me a beacon of hope that it has been some food intolerance causing my agony and I may be able to identify it as I'm reintroducing foods. Anyone else experience this?

Love it!

I meant Fiji water, from Fiji... artesian, massively naturally, filtered, natural minerals. No chemicals. It's very soft and earthy. Mios would help if flavor is the problem, I was just wondering about the molecular structure stuff being hokum.

Sleeved May 15 and Regretting it
GypsyQueen replied to RainbowBrite26's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I was sleeved on the 17th, and attended an awards banquet for my son tonight. It was hard watching everyone eat sliced roast beef and mashed potatoes, and I really wanted to run my finger through my son's frosting on his cupcake... But I had a cup of milk and just kept drinking my Water and the fullness took care of the urge. You win that $300 bucks and make daddy eat his words. Smile while you do it. Best, revenge, ever. -
Did I really do the right thing?
GypsyQueen replied to jabbgard's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
I expressed the same regret to a girlfriend via text while still in the hospital and she replied "You won't feel that way when you're rocking a size 4!" It was a great response that caused a pain inducing laugh. Keep your eyes on the prize, whatever that may be. It will get better soon! -
sleeved on Monday may 20th
GypsyQueen replied to denniseortiz09's topic in POST-Operation Weight Loss Surgery Q&A
Had my surgery Friday and the hospital passed out sugar free ice pops and little broth packets (not sodium free) Ox Herb, (have somebody grab them at grocery). They were both fantastic! I was crazy nauseous, and it took me till Monday to be released because I couldn't get in the required 30 oz w/o throwing up. But let me brag that TWO DAYS LATER (today) I am up to 88 oz. water/fluid (brought home those broth packets, warm feels nice going down) and 56 oz. Protein (3 milks and 1 1/2 protein shakes). I feel great. sleeping on my side and all. Stitches are sore, of course, but no pain meds since coming home. It get's better every day, so chin up. -
Surgery was on Friday. Surgery itself was uneventful, but I had bad reactions to several meds and suffered from severe nausea. Today was my first coherent day and it took me 11 hours to get down 30oz. to be able to come home. 4 days in hospital. :-( Hubby has been amazing taking care of me. Second guessing myself? Absolutely. Hoping two weeks from now things are better? You better believe it.

Same day for me too. I'm nervous! -
Look in' good! Congrats!!

They offered me April 5th, 11th, and May 10th before settling on the 17th. I'm on spring break at the moment with the kids and was not prepared to start Preop diet TODAY...:-) When I let my hubby know, he said he was putting in for 3 weeks sick leave. I told him I was glad I could be his excuse! Lol!
-
Oh my billiejoe! Here's to hoping for smoother sailing this time around. Wishing you the best!!! And unless, of course, you want to keep growing the family, Maybe hubby gets his own V procedure, because your body obviously would cheat a tube tying too! Lol! :-)

http://www.doctoroz.com/videos/underperformed-surgery-you-should-be-getting-pt-1 I'm sorry it wasn't YouTube, but right on the Dr. Oz site. It has 5 "parts" to it. It is on bypass specifically, but that's okay. We all know sleeve is even better!
